Spoiled Rotten helps franchisee go into pre schools and take beautifully lit, beautifully posed timeless photographs of 3 & 4 year olds that parents can be very proud of. Melissa has a background in custom photography as well as being the Army and industrial engineering. Her training background meant that she was perfect to help franchisees on their journey from a 9-5 job to being a business owner. Surprisingly, not all of Melissa's franchisees are photographers by trade. While the have an interest in photography, about 50% have never used a professional camera before. Melissa puts new franchisees through 2 weeks of training on the basics of photography before they do the final franchise training. He's based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Andre started out playing football and studying business at Florida State University in Tallahassee. He graduated with a masters in Sports Management then was drafted to play for the Arizona Cardinals. Andre and I share a mutual background - growing up around cars! While playing football he bought 3 car dealerships and grew this to a portfolio of 6 dealerships over the 10 years. 059: How to make a great living working just 8 days a month with Matt Miller
16/11/2016 Duration: 48minMatt Miller is a former air force pilot (T-38s and C-5s for the avgeeks like me out there) and former advertising executive who is Founder and CEO of School Spirit Vending. He started a passive 'on the side' business to help schools raise money through vending machines and grew it into an empire with 110 machines himself and over 100 franchisees. Matt started the business with a used gumball machine he bought off eBay. Now he helps franchisees place vending machines in schools that dispense school-branded stickers and mascot stickers. They help raise school spirit and generate income for the school as well. On 25 October 2016 it will be 9 years since matt placed that first machine in his first school. Now Matt's in 36 states in the US and is expanding into Canada early next year. Typically School Spirit Vending franchisees have 20-30 machines per franchisee. Mike started in franchising working in his family's Fast Signs franchise. This experience gave him a taste for franchising and inspired him to become a lawyer who specialized in the franchising model. Mike's time with Kahala Group started when they were only 60 units and over the next 17 years he helped the brand grow to owning 19 quick service restaurant brands with over 3200 locations! Working with the brand as they went through many acquisitions, Mike looked at 19-20 businesses for each acquisition Kahala made, meaning he has looked at literally thousands of franchise businesses and he's been able to distill some 'best practices' out of all that experience. Alissa recommends the IFA Leadership Conference which starts right before the IFA Convention. This year's convention is in Las Vegas in late January 2017. Apex is the only fundraising franchise in the world and their mission is to help teachers as well as students and schools. Partnering with schools, the Apex Fun Run events raise money for equipment and other school needs. Besides the event itself, students can go through a two-week program to develop their character and leadership skills which leads them to a final run where they raise donations. Apex Fun Run exists to replace or supplement the traditional method of fundraising - bake sales and chocolate box sales. After leaving the cubicle-farm finance business in 2011 Paul was searching for a new opportunity that fused his love of sports and experience with golf coaching with his desire to be his own boss. He found TGA when flipping through the Entrepreneur magazine and decided to become a franchisee. From 2011 to 2015 Paul grew his franchise, then he transitioned to a role as Business Development Director for the franchisor. Paul faced an interesting challenge being new to Raleigh, NC, and having no existing networks. He had to rely on finding people he trusted through postings on Craigslist looking for golf & tennis coaches - though he always established a value fit before hiring someone. 22/08/2016 Duration: 27minTra Williams is Chief Operations Officer for Lakeview Associated Enterprises, the for-profit arm that supports the work of Baptist Health Care. (His first name is pronounced, "Tray") Lakeview are a twist on the traditional franchising model where a non-profit becomes a franchisee to support their mission of "helping people overcome life's challenges". Lots of non-profits become franchisees to support their mission, but Tra's company is really doing it on a large scale. They have 3 Dairy Queen units now, and have a development agreement to build out 9 more over the next 3 years. They are also searching for sites for 1-2 Golden Corrals in the Southwest Florida area. To find the people he trusts, Tra believes strongly in finding a value fit before onboarding any vendors or new employees. Once there is a value fit, "the rest is just paperwork" - love that!
