  • Discover Music Project: Episode 54

    09/02/2013 Duration: 01h16min

Jonny reunites with his old buddy Taylor to bring you this refreshing take on a familiar band; The Rolling Stones. We avoided all the radio hits (and there are so many) to showcase the diverse stylings, musicianship, and excellent songwriting of this legendary rock group. We're all guilty of taking these guys for granted, but this episode is the perfect way to start developing your appreciation of the Stones. Here's the setlist: 1. Rocks Off (Exile on Main Street) 2. Can't You Hear Me Knocking (Sticky Fingers) 3. Play With Fire (Out of Our Heads) 4. Some Girls (Some Girls) 5. No Expectations (Beggars Banquet) 6. Everybody Needs Somebody to Love (The Rolling Stones Now!) 7. Midnight Rambler (Hot Rocks) 8. Let It Loose (Exile on Main Street) 9. Saint of Me (Bridges to Babylon) 10. Moonlight Mile (Sticky Fingers) Encore: Bettye LaVette - Salt of the Earth (Interpretations: The British Rock Songbook)

  • Frozen North Dinnercast 17: Southern Hospitality

    04/02/2013 Duration: 01h08min

I told you we'd have a new episode this weekend! Yeah, it's by the skin of my teeth, but there was a little national holiday called the Super Bowl that I partook in. Not much to say about this episode other than to point out that the last episode (#16) featured a discussion about "16 and Pregnant" and "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant." THIS show, which was recorded about 8 months later, opens with a discussion about "Teen Mom," which Marcus IS ACTUALLY INTO. He's ALSO taken up knitting, so we forced him to turn in his Man Card. Enjoy this epside, folks, and who knows? You might even get another new one next weekend. Keep those fingers crossed!

  • Frozen North Dinnercast: DC vs. Marvel

    29/01/2013 Duration: 43min

Well kids, it's been awhile. I actually thought we hadn't recorded a show since November, but it turns out we had one in early December. Still, that's not really a great excuse. The reason for FND's overdue-ness is that December was spent with family, making getting together an impossibility. The wife and I went to Hawaii for two weeks in early January, and while we were there, Nelson and his wife (and baby) took an epic three-week trip to the east coast to visit sessile family members. Marcus, Courtney, a guy named Elliot, and myself actually recorded a show last week or so...we were in a restaurant! But there was way too much random audio, like overhead music that was too loud and clanging silverware, that it made the show tough to recommend. So instead, you get this canned episode from whenever The Avengers came out in theaters. I completely forget every conversation we had during this show, so it was a nice surprise for me. Hopefully you'll like it, too. And there will be a new show this weekend! Nelson's

  • Crosstawk Comics: Episode 21

    26/01/2013 Duration: 01h04min

For our first episode in 2013, we're bringing you a character spotlight on the one, the only Daredevil! Though his movie didn't exactly set the world on fire, he's a great character with a really rich and interesting history, so Gus and I really dug in and pulled out some awesome gems to discuss. We also debuted a new segment this episode called Tangent, in which we'll (you guessed it) go on a quick tangent related to news in the world of comics. This time, we discussed the rumor that Jimmy Olsen is actually going to be Jenny Olsen in The Man of Steel. Have some thoughts of your own on Daredevil (or Ms. Olsen)? Let us know via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk and @gusslug) and in the comments section on the site. Thanks for listening, everyone! See you next week for a new Box Office Poison!

  • Box Office Poison: Episode 47

    19/01/2013 Duration: 03h14min

Hey, folks, sorry for the slight delay. The last episode of BOP, which covered all of the films for the holiday season, ended up being our longest yet, but the honor was short-lived, because I'm very proud to present Episode 47, which is even LONGER! In the first segment, we go over four upcoming films for a round of Trailer Trash, but it's all abour segments two and three, which cover our Top Films of 2012! Our annual year-in review episodes are always a highlight, and this time's no exception! And remember, folks, Episode 50 is right around the corner, so please send in your thoughts, questions and favorite films to us for the Listener Mail Extravaganza! You can drop us a line via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the site! Thanks for listening, folks. We should have a new episode of Frozen North Dinnercast up any day now!

  • Box Office Poison: Episode 46

    06/01/2013 Duration: 02h41min

A couple days late, but boy is there a lot of content! On this episode of Box Office Poison, we discuss The Hobbit, Django Unchained, Killing Them Softly, This is 40, Jack Reacher, Holy Motors, Bernie and even the latest Twilight! Seriously, Jonny saw Twilight. And there are even MORE movies to hear about in the first two segments - this is easily the longest BOP ever recorded! Then, in the third segment, we discuss Stan's Movie of the Month: The Bad News Bears. Did we get a good laugh out those foul-mouthed kids, or are we going to be delivering bad news? You'll have to listen to find out. Be sure to tune in next month when we'll be watching 1972's Sleuth. Thanks for listening, guys! We'll see you next week.

Seasons Greetings from Box Office Poison, the podcast all about movies and movie things! • Discover Music Project: Episode 53

    11/12/2012 Duration: 01h28min

We've had some truly strange and challenging bands on DMP recently, but this episode marks a return to mainstream, contemporary pop music. It's also the DMP debut of Stan Ferguson, your favorite curmudgeon from Box Office Poison, Thoroughly Manly Musicals, etc. As you may know, Stan is a theatrical kind of guy, which helps explain his blooming adoration of the band "fun." Although Nate Ruess & co. have only released two albums, including a couple of big radio hits, Stan unearthed a very impressive trove of deep tracks to fill out this episode much better than you'd expect for such a young group. Trust me, even if you find "We Are Young" obnoxious (as I do), there's a lot more to this bombastic prog-pop band. 1. Some Nights [Intro] (Some Nights) 2. Light a Roman Candle With Me (Aim and Ignite) 3. Be Calm (Aim and Ignite) 4. At Least I'm Not As Sad [As I Used To Be] (Aim and Ignite) 5. You Can't Always Get What You Want (Live) 6. The Gambler (Aim and Ignite) 7. Why Am I the One (Some Nights) 8. All Alone (S

  • Rough Draught: The Windy City Tapes

    09/12/2012 Duration: 01h40min

Hey, folks! I'm extremely pleased to present you with a brand-spanking-new episode of Rough Draught, The Beer Appreciation Show. This edition, named The Windy City Tapes, was actually recorded around five months ago in Chicago, Illinois with our good buddy Erik Schardin. Unfortunately, though, due to our being unbelievably tired after a long day, I wasn't comfortable releasing it on the feed. Until today, of course. There was still plenty of gold to be found, so I rolled up my sleeves, edited around the boring bits and left you guys with just about 90 minutes of pure Rough Draught. This time, we discuss Wychwood's WychCraft, St. Peter's Golden Ale, Goose Island's Sofie and Revolution Brewing's Bad Man Old Rye Ale. And, as you've come to expect, there's plenty of Drunk Tales. So enjoy! And please head on over to iTunes to leave us a rating and review. If you'd like to get in touch with us, you can reach us via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the site. Thanks for

  • Frozen North Dinnercast #15: Baleen Slap

    03/12/2012 Duration: 01h09min

The whole gang got together once again to talk to a mic in a shot glass, and the usual amount of humor, alienation, crushing insults, and less enthusiasm than usual for saying "with a W." I don't have a whole lot else to say about this episode, really. The topics change as quickly as the temperature drops this time of year (5 degrees F as I post this) so you'll want to be alert to catch' em all! In the background, you may hear Marcus and Courtney's new puppy, Banjo, who spent most of the show sniffing around my house and attempting (unsuccessfully) to play with Ozzie, my corgi. We also have a new voice--Kelsey, who didn't realize we were recording a show until we were halfway done with it! She was a treat, though, and we hope to have her back. Oh, there's also that awesome intro music (you're all watching the show, right?). Once you're done listening to the show and immediately deleting it from your listening device, why not rate us on iTunes? It helps new people find the show and we love reading reviews (win

    01/12/2012 Duration: 01h30min

BOP's back and ready to roll, folks! This time, Mike Sklens couldn't make it, but the rest of us were here to talk about Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Beyond the Black Rainbow and even speculate a bit about the upcoming Jobs movie being written by Aaron Sorkin. Then, in the second segment, we cover our Movie of the Month, OSS-117: Cairo, Nest of Spies. How did we react to the French Austin Powers starring Jean Dujardin? You'll have to listen to find out. Have something you want us to talk about on the show? Let us know via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the site. • Discover Music Project: Episode 52

    06/11/2012 Duration: 01h21min

To continue the flurry of activity here at Crosstawk, we present another hot episode of DMP featuring Jonny and guest Amanda Albert, who brings her selection of The Dandy Warhols. This acid-pop band is often hilarious and always interesting. The lush music production incorporates electronic beats with electric guitars and lots of crazy lyrics. It's every bit as weird as the previous collaborations between these hosts (Ween, Weird Al, and Frank Zappa) but probably a little more accessible and recognizable than any of those. Here's the setlist: 1. Get Off (Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia) 2. Bohemian Like You (Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia) 3. Plan A (Welcome to the Monkey House) 4. Wonderful You (Welcome to the Monkey House) 5. Scientist (Welcome to the Monkey House) 6. The Last High (Welcome to the Monkey House) 7. The New Country (Odditorium or Warlords of Mars) 8. Smoke It (Odditorium or Warlords of Mars) 9. We Used To Be Friends (The Dandy Warhols Are Sound) 10. I Am Sound (The Dandy Warhols Are Sou

Trust me, guys, you don't want to miss this one! Like to play along at home? Episode 44's Movie of the Month will be OSS-117: Cairo, Nest of Spies available right now on Netflix Instant! • The Frozen North Dinnercast 14: Interception

    05/11/2012 Duration: 01h07min

It's been a long, long, looooong time coming, but you can finally hear the sweet sounds of five idiots talking out their asses about things that don't matter. I DO have a valid excuse for getting this episode up so late, though: I got sick, then I was admitted to the hospital for like four days, then I was discharged, then I was on the mend, then I was LAZY. This episode was actually recorded pre-sickness, so a few of our discussion topics may appear hilariously dated. But you know what? That's okay, because one moment in the show makes up for any bit that's lacking. It's the moment when Marcus laughs a LITTLE TOO HARD. It's been an omnipresent danger as long as I've known the man, and tonight, that horrible inevitability came to fruition.  Like this show? Sure you do. You can rate us (nicely) on iTunes and leave feedback on the website, www.crosstawk.com. Go on, all the cool kids are doing it. You can also follow Zach on Twitter @zmiller1902, Marcus @Marchaos1, and Luke @lukeakfl. If you don't use Twitter, l
