An unofficial podcast for the long-running British soap, Coronation Street.

Episodes

  • Conversation Street Episode 420

    30/05/2020 Duration: 03h05min

In this week's podcast, we take a look back on the week in Weatherfield between the 25th and the 29th May (Episodes #10,066 - #10,068). Before we get going with that, though, we're joined by a special guest from the cobbles, who picks out a winner in our Royal Mail stamps competition, then we chat a bit about some of the Corrie merch that we've been buying this week. When we finally get round to discussing the goings on in Coronation Street, top of the agenda is, of course, the return of the lovely Shona, who's back after what we would say is Corrie's most seamlessly covered maternity leave ever! Looks like she needs to get listening to some back episodes of the podcast, though, as it turns out she's lost all memory of living on the street - well, apart from the most important things like where the tea bags are. Now there's a woman who's got her priorities straight! Also this week, Leanne's in denial about the severity of Oliver's condition, David gets attacked (and we use that term *very* loosely) by Weather

  • Feature Discussion: 1970-1974 - Episode 419

    23/05/2020 Duration: 01h42min

If you've been enjoying listening to our journey through 60 years of Corrie, you'll be pleased to hear that our bonus material for this week's podcast is a look back at the first half of the 1970s. This period saw the debuts of characters who'd go onto be Coronation Street icons including Deirdre and Blanche, introduced Corrie viewers to the Kabin, and saw the show film abroad for the first time as the ladies of the Street jetted of to Majorca. We laughed at the continued capers of the Ogdens, gasped at the intense Joe Donneli saga and said a fond farewell to the likes of Val and Irma. Corrie in the 1970s certainly felt like a different place to the cosy Street of the sixties at times, but there was certainly still a lot to love!

    23/05/2020 Duration: 02h25min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street broadcast in the UK between the 18th and the 22nd May (Episodes #10,063 - 10,065). It was a pretty heavy week this week, with the dominating stories being Oliver's diagnosis of mitochondrial disease and Ed standing up to racist Bistro manager Don. Though the message in the latter story was hammered home a little too heavily at times, we thought, both stories contained some fantastic performances from the main cast, and we're hoping that this could be a bit of a turning point for the Baileys, especially Ed. Thank goodness for the lighter side of the week provided by Evelyn and Arthur's blossoming romance, though - now can we please not rush towards some kind of tragic end for Arthur, and let the two of them enjoy a bit of happiness together? With not much news to cover this week, we decided not to have a Kabin segment, but rather skip straight to the feedback section after Street Talk, where we read out some of your early reactions to Frida

  • Vikram Desai Character Profile - Episode 418

    16/05/2020 Duration: 53min

With Street Cars recently celebrating its 20th anniversary, this week's character profile is of one its founders, Vikram Desai. Actor Chris Bisson may be better known for his role in Emmerdale these days, but back in the early 2000s, his character Vik was busy working his way through the women of the Street. We chat about some of his more memorable stories, reflect on the legacy he and his family have left on the show, and uncover some surprising behind the scenes stories - including which Corrie character he first went to audition for back in the 80s!

  • Conversation Street Episode 418

    16/05/2020 Duration: 02h24min

On our latest edition of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 11th and the 15th May (Episodes #10,060 - 10,062). This week, Steve and Leanne's worries about Oliver escalate as his seizures intensify - does he have epilepsy, or could it be something even more severe? Meanwhile, David gets a buzz from being chased through the scally estate, the odious Ray and his equally odious new manager prepare to unveil the newly renovated Bistro, and Bernie is instructed in the fine art of tomato slicing. Next up in the podcast, we give our stamp of approval to a new Corrie project from the Royal Mail, then we finish off the show with more of your listener feedback. • Conversation Street Episode 417

    09/05/2020 Duration: 02h39min

On the latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street broadcast in the UK between the 4th and the 8th May (Episodes #10,057 - 10,059). After last Friday's shocking cliffhanger where she was driven to attack Geoff with a wine bottle, Yasmeen has to face a grilling from Weatherfield's most tenacious police officer, DS Abney. Did you act in self-defence? Was Geoff still holding the knife when you hit him? What do you think of my amazing fringe? It's a tough week for Yasmeen - thanks goodness she has Imran to back her up! Also this week, Weatherfield hosts yet another bizarre award ceremony, whose recipients appear just as randomly picked as the kids they get to do the speeches, and, for some reason, Leanne is concerned when Oliver comes back messy from messy play. Next up on the podcast we take a look through this week's Corrie news in The Kabin, including a couple of quotes from Ian Macleod's press interview - filtered for spoilers, of course! - and we finish off the show with some of your reac

  • Feature Discussion: Weatherfield At War

    08/05/2020 Duration: 01h22min

To mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, the feature discussion for Episode 417 of the podcast is all about Coronation Street during World War 2. Using information taken from Daran Little and Maggie Sullivan's books, the Official Coronation Street magazine from 1995 and, of course, that repository of all Corrie knowledge, Corriepedia, we chat about the history of the Street that's been created for the years between 1939 and 1945, including what went down on the 8th May 1945. We also discuss the legacy of World War 2 and its effect on some of the characters in the show, like Elsie Tanner and Percy Sugden.

  • Claudia Colby Character Profile - Episode 416

    02/05/2020 Duration: 45min

Coronation Street may have originated as a serial about down to earth, working class folk, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for a bit of sophistication from time to time! In our character profile this week, we take a look back at Corrie's fabulous friseur Claudia Colby, from her entrance on the arm of Lewis Archer and her friendly rivalry with Audrey to becoming the classiest notch on Ken's bedpost.

    02/05/2020 Duration: 02h21min

On our latest podcast, we break down our thoughts on the excellent episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 27th April and the 1st May (Episodes #10,054 - 10,056). This week, Iain MacLeod finally found the memo that Kate Oates left him when he took over as producer: if you want people talking about Corrie, sometimes you've just got to go dark. For us, this week's episodes, in which we saw the climax of Yasmeen's long-running torment at the hands of evil Geoff, were some of the most adrenaline-inducing we've watched in a good long while, with a level of intensity not seen since the height of the Pat Phelan drama. Hats of to Shelley King, Ian Bartholomew and everyone behind the scenes for putting together some truly terrific telly. Oh yeah, and some stuff happened with Asha, Gary and Ken too. Not a whole lot in the way of news this week, but we cobble together a few headlines into a brief Kabin segment next, and we finish off the podcast with some listener feedback, including some of your immediate reacti

  • Steven Arnold Interview - Episode 415

    25/04/2020 Duration: 29min

In 1995, Steven Arnold debuted on Coronation Street as butcher's boy Ashley Peacock. Over the course of his fifteen years on the show, we watched him become a husband, father, widower and, ultimately, the hero who gave his life to save Nick and Peter during the tram crash of 2010. This week, we welcome Steven onto the podcast to chat about his time on the show, promote his latest short film series, Thick As Thieves, and reveal what else he's been up to in the ten years since Ashley met his grisly demise.

  • Conversation Street Episode 415

    25/04/2020 Duration: 02h04min

On our latest podcast, we have a natter about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 20th and the 24th April (Episodes #10,051 to 10,053). This week, Ken causes a splash in Stillwaters when he unmasks the fraudulent Charles during the residents association elections. Meanwhile, Dev's horrified to discover what's been going on with Asha, and Carla takes the pumps at the Rovers. Next up on the podcast, we speculate over the recently revealed title of the next Maggie Sullivan novel and chat about a couple of short films we've seen this week starring some Corrie cast members, then we finish things off with some listener feedback. • Feature Discussion: The Changing Faces of Coronation Street

    18/04/2020 Duration: 01h15min

This week, Aadi became the latest in the line of Corrie characters to be recast, and our bonus content for Episode 414 is all about the show's head swaps over the years. From child actors who wanted to focus on their schooling to older cast members who weren't available or, to put it bluntly, were just not sexy enough, we look back at the changing faces of Coronation Street, discussing some of our most and least favourites, pondering who we'd be happy to see return to the show with a different actor, and looking at the young characters who've managed to avoid the head swapper's axe so far.

  • Conversation Street Episode 414

    18/04/2020 Duration: 02h13min

On the latest Conversation Street, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 13th and the 17th April (Episodes #10,048 and 10,050). This week, the teens take centre stage as Asha's new storyline gets underway, the unfortunate twin falling victim to a sexting incident when a video of her stripping in front of her phone makes its way onto a group chat. Also this week, after a few years of, you know, being tolerable, Leanne reverts to form and enters maximum mardy mode when she discovers that Steve wasn't around whilst Oliver was having his seizure. Meanwhile, a new a guest at the Rovers B&B gets pulses racing, and there's a clash of steel at Stillwaters. Next up in the Kabin, we discuss the series of special programmes focusing on iconic Corrie icons that are rumoured to be airing this summer, and we finish off the show with some listener feedback. • Tracy McDonald Character Profile - Episode 413

    11/04/2020 Duration: 01h04min

It's been over seven years since our original profile of Tracy Barlow back on Episode 9 of the podcast, and she's been making her family and neighbours' lives hell ever since. For this week's extra content, we're taking a look at what Tracy's been up to since 2012 - the feuds, the fights, the fires, the friendships and the florist's. All that, plus a mini review of Dawn Acton's portrayal of Tracy in the early 90s now that Michael has recently had the chance to rewatch some classic episodes on ITV3.

  • Conversation Street Episode 413

    11/04/2020 Duration: 02h31min

Happy Easter everyone! This weekend on the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 6th and the 10th April (Episodes #10,045 - 10,047). This week's episodes may have seen you breaking into your precious loo roll supplies to blow your nose and dry those eyes as Emma makes the tough decision to have a poorly Eccles put to sleep in Ken's absence. She's not the only one to have had a tough old time of it either, as Gemma's still struggling to cope with the pressure of being a mum to four babies, and Steve's distraught when he finds Oliver collapsed on the living room floor. Next up on the podcast, we take a look at a new short film project starring ex-Corrie cast members Steven Arnold and Jonny Dixon, and we finish off the show with a bit of a bumper feedback section, including a fascinating account from one listener about how her experience of living through the 60s compared to Corrie back then, and a couple of voicemails. • COVID-19 Update - Episode 412

    04/04/2020 Duration: 40min

The bonus content for Episode 412 just doesn't stop coming! As we're trying to keep the main bit of podcast free of all coronavirus talk for the listeners who are just fed up of hearing about it, we've decided to do a quick update on how the pandemic is affecting all things Corrie in another standalone podcast. It's only been a few weeks since our first COVID-19 discussion, but thing have moved on since then, including the halting of all Corrie filming until further notice! We discuss some new ideas about where this might leave our favourite soap as well as sharing some of the ways that the Corrie cast are keeping us entertained over social media while we're all stuck inside.

  • Feature Discussion: 1965-1969 - Episode 412

    04/04/2020 Duration: 01h44min

Our extra content for Episode 412 of the podcast is a review of the second half of our 1960s Corrie box set. 1965 to 1969 saw some big changes to the Street, including the introduction of an outdoor set and the construction of the maisonettes opposite the terraced houses. It was also the period where Betty Turpin and Bet Lynch made their debuts, and big stunts like the train crashing through the viaduct and the collapse of Number 7 kept viewers hooked. In this discussion, we go over stories we enjoyed, characters that made the biggest impression, and our thoughts on what the box set can teach us about life in the 60s.

  • Conversation Street Episode 412

    04/04/2020 Duration: 01h44min

On our latest podcast, we cover the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 30th March and the 3rd April (Episodes #10,042 - 10,044). This week sees the start of the new reduced schedule, and we start off the Street Talk section sharing our thoughts on how it feels to only get three episodes a week - and ones that were never originally intended to be shown this way either! That's followed by a discussion of the latest goings on in the Yasmeen storyline - has she finally seen through Geoff's lies and manipulation? Also this week, David gets a taste for danger, Aled gets his hearing aids fitted, and Charles plays by his own rules. Next up on the show, we celebrate the news of Sally Carman and Joe Duttine's engagement in The Kabin, and we finish off the podcast with some feedback, including a quick go at a fun Corrie game suggested by one listener. • Re-upload: Dirk Character Profile

    01/04/2020 Duration: 48min

For April Fools' Day 2017, we flexed our creative muscles to come up with a profile of one of Corrie's most well-loved background characters: factory foreman Dirk. Over the course of three quarters of an hour, we led listeners down a merry path, recounting a completely fabricated tale of Dirk's life on the Street, stretching all the way from 1960 to the present day. We've re-uploaded it to our feed because, well, we all need something silly to lose ourselves in at the moment, so hit the play button, kick back and enjoy!

  • Listener Questions - Episode 411

    27/03/2020 Duration: 55min

For our bonus content this week, we tackle some questions sent in by a pair of listeners. First up, we're tasked with giving the Street a bit of a makeover, closing all the businesses and opening new ones in their place. What kind of business do the residents of Weatherfield need, who would run them, and would they be interesting to watch? We go in depth with our thoughts! Next up, we're asked which characters we'd want to be friends with in real life. As neither of us are exactly social butterflies (well, we have spent Friday night for the past eight years recording a podcast!!), this wasn't necessarily the easiest of questions, but we certainly gave it a good shot!
