Episodes

  • Our Tour of Manchester: Week 1 - Conversation Street Episode 430

    08/08/2020 Duration: 39min

For our bonus podcast this week, we chat about our week up in Manchester, touring the city and looking for key locations linked to our favourite soap. We've checked out the remains of the old set at Quay Street, seen Corrie's new home in Media City, and visited filming locations such as Bury Football Club, St Mary's Church and Tatton Park - listen as we share our thoughts on the experience, or even better, have a watch of the YouTube version of the podcast, which is packed full of video footage we've taken on the trip!

  • Conversation Street Episode 429

    01/08/2020 Duration: 02h44min

On the latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie broadcast in the UK between the 27th and the 31st July.   This week, Gary does his best to cover his tracks when he realises that Bernie picked up a particularly valuable treasure during her trip to the woods, but when Sarah discovers the gruesome truth about Rick's comeuppance and tries to call the police, it's Gary's life that ends up being put on the line. Meanwhile, Ed's gutted when he finds out that Aggie can't come home for their wedding anniversary celebrations, and Elaine drops a bombshell on Tim - but is it enough to turn him away from Team Geoff?   In The Kabin, we share our thoughts on the news that Corrie is to return to six episodes a week in mid-September, and we finish off by hearing more of your reactions to how Corrie is tackling the pandemic, in the feedback section.   Street Talk - 00:19:08 The Kabin - 01:47:39 Feedback - 02:10:21

  • Renee Roberts Character Profile: Episode 429

    01/08/2020 Duration: 46min

For this week's bonus podcast, we have a character profile of Renee Roberts. This shopkeeper may be best known for her grisly death rather than anything she actually got up to on the Street, but now that we've had the chance to watch some of the episodes she was in in the late 70s, we thought it was the perfect time to take a look back at her time on Corrie and share our thoughts.

  • Conversation Street Episode 428

    25/07/2020 Duration: 03h15min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 20th and the 24th July (Episodes #10,090 - 10,092).   This was the week we'd been looking forward to for quite a while - Friday in particular, which was the first episode to be fully filmed since lockdown, and therefore make reference to coronavirus. We start the Street Talk segment of the podcast discussing how well we thought Corrie dealt with the pandemic in its scripts and overall production before delving into the Geoff and Yasmeen story, which saw some major developments this week thanks to the introduction of one of Geoff's exes, as well as a heart attack for poor Yas and a rare Corrie dream sequence. On top of that, we've got Adam accusing Gary of killing Rick (was anyone else surprised by how quickly he was able to jump to that correct conclusion?), a tragic but incredibly creepy twist in the Daniel story, and some great Emma moments as part of Seb's story with Abi - an all-round top quality week, we th

  • Shelley King Interview - Conversation Street Episode 428

    25/07/2020 Duration: 27min

For this week's bonus episode, we're excited to be joined by Shelley King, who's at the centre of one of Corrie's most engrossing storylines at the moment. Magic, marriage and murder most fowl... Yasmeen's certainly been through a lot in the past year, and in this exclusive interview, we discover what it's been like bringing the issue of coercive control to our screens.

  • Conversation Street Episode 427

    18/07/2020 Duration: 03h18min

For our latest podcast, we take a look back on the week of Corrie between the 13th and the 17th July (Episodes #10,087 - 10,089).. This week sees Geoff get his hooks back into Yasmeen as he convinces her to go along with his plans to get her out of prison and back under his control. Meanwhile, Leanne and Nick find out about Toyah and Imran's fostering plans, Abi misses out on a chance to say goodbye to the twins before their trip to Australia, and Adam continues to turn on the charm with Laura - but is she the one playing him? Next up, we head over to The Kabin, where we share our thoughts on this week's Coronation Street special about classic weddings. Then, after a bit of a bumper feedback section with some of you chipping in with your own thoughts on Corrie in the 70s, we head into spoiler territory with a double helping of Kabin Extra. Street Talk - 00:19:54 The Kabin - 01:58:35 Listener Feedback - 02:22:10 Kabin Extra - 02:52:58

  • Listener Questions - Episode 427

    18/07/2020 Duration: 55min

Our bonus podcast this week is a listener question segment, where we share our thoughts on two more topics sent in by you guys. Firstly, we've all spent longer in our homes than ever this year thanks to lockdown, but if six Corrie characters were to be quarantined together, who would we pick, and why? We go over a few ideas, wondering whether it'd be better to go for people who get on, who'd antagonise each other or simply who'd get some much needed time on the screen if they were in a six-hander! After that, we stretch our creative muscles and come up with ideas for a time travel episode of Corrie - if characters could take a trip to any period in history, who would we pick and where and when would they go to?

  • Conversation Street Episode 426

    11/07/2020 Duration: 02h36min

On this episode of the podcast, we take a look at what went on in Weatherfield in the week of the 6th to the 10th July. After a bit of a break, the coercive control story returns in full force this week, with Yasmeen gaining a firm supporter in Sally after talking with her during prison visiting time. With Tim refusing to betray his dad and Geoff getting an unexpected ally in the form of Tyrone, though, the Great Magnifico is far from defeated. Also this week, Leanne continues to lash out at those trying to support her, Roy unwittingly plays gooseberry again, and Michael's hopes of a romantic reconciliation with Grace are dashed. In The Kabin, we share our thoughts on this week's Corrie special on ITV: Stories That Gripped The Nation, and we finish things off with a bit of listener feedback. Street Talk - 00:18:24 The Kabin - 01:58:11 Feedback - 02:10:40

  • Feature Discussion: 1975-1979 - Episode 426

    11/07/2020 Duration: 01h27min

For our bonus podcast this week, it's time for another vintage Corrie discussion as we reach the end of our 70s boxset. With 1976 seeing legendary Coronation Street producer Bill Podmore taking the helm of our favourite soap, the second half of the 70s is seen by many as the start of a golden era for the show, but did it live up to its reputation for us? Join us as we discuss classic episodes including the Rovers lorry crash, the Silver Jubilee and a whole bunch of fantastic Ogden capers, including the jewel in Corrie's 1970s crown: Stan and Hilda's second honeymoon. We all know what Hilda's lipstick tasted of, but did we think the rest of the episodes between 1975 and 1979 had just as much flavour? Tune in and find out!

  • Conversation Street Episode 425

    04/07/2020 Duration: 02h16min

On this week's podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 29th June and the 3rd July. After a somewhat disappointing week last week, this set of episodes were right back on form, with some fantastic performances from the entire cast in the wake of Oliver's diagnosis. As Leanne and Steve reel from the news that their son's not going to get better, Toyah and Imran make the difficult decision to put their fostering plans on hold, Nick continues to be pushed to the side lines and some painful memories are stirred for Jenny. Meanwhile, in some much needed lighter scenes, Fiz worries that she and Tyrone are turning into Jack and Vera, and Roy and Arthur find a shared passion for all things locomotive. With not much going on news-wise, we give The Kabin a swerve this week and head straight to the feedback section after Street Talk, where topics under discussion include feeling pity for Simon, Carla's rape, and Gemma and Chesney's stable door. • Alan Howard Character Profile: Episode 425

    04/07/2020 Duration: 32min

Poor Elsie Tanner had had a bit of a bad track record with men up until the late 1960s, but when Alan Howard showed up on the scene in 1969, she thought she'd finally met Mr Right. In this character profile, we take a look at the life of Elsie's husband number three, who was actually played by the actor who went on to marry Pat Phoenix in real life. The chemistry was clearly right off-screen, but did it come across in Corrie?

  • Conversation Street Episode 424

    27/06/2020 Duration: 02h40min

On our latest podcast, we cover the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 22nd and the 26th June (Episodes #10,078 - 10,080) Despite a lot of the main players being characters we actually quite like, we sadly didn't find a whole lot to maintain our interest this week. There were baby steps taken in the David and Shona story, and the same with the mystery surrounding Carla and Scott, whilst the Emma, Seb and Alina love triangle that everyone had kind of forgotten about returned after a few months, only to meander about and seemingly get nowhere. Let's just hope that, like that glint in Evelyn's father's trousers, some of the seeds that were sown this week will cause new life to bloom in the next few episodes. We've got a slew of audiovisual recommendations for you in The Kabin this week, as we chat about an online Corrie webinar, the upcoming repeat of The Road To Coronation Street and a truly wonderful interview with Thelma Barlow that old school Corrie fans should certainly not miss out o

  • Our Reflections On 2020 So Far: Episode 424

    27/06/2020 Duration: 01h31min

We've reached the end of June, which means we're already halfway through Corrie's 60th year, and as is our annual tradition, our bonus content for this week is a reflection on last six months in Weatherfield. Well, we say say that, but it's actually more like four and a bit months in Weatherfield and six for us, as the global pandemic we've faced has meant that, like the rest of the world, Corrie's had to make a fair few changes to its 2020 plans. We start off by sharing our thoughts on how well the show has responded to life in lockdown, before chatting about some of our highlights and lowlights of six months on the Street. From the hard-hitting drama of the Geoff and Yasmeen coercive control story to the renaissance of the the Alahans and the cosy nostalgia of the 10,000th episode, there's been a lot to like so far in 2020, and we're cautiously optimistic about the direction things are heading for the anniversary celebrations in December. We round off the discussion with a chat about some of the podcast hig

  • Cathy Matthews Character Profile: Episode 423

    20/06/2020 Duration: 56min

For our bonus podcast this week, we take a closer look at the character of Cathy Matthews, who's recently racked up five years on the cobbles. From her introduction on the show as a potential love interest for Roy to her current role as a sidekick to bumbling Brian, we chat about our highlights and lowlights of the character brought to life by actress Melanie Hill, and ponder what might be in store for her in the future.

  • Conversation Street Episode 423

    20/06/2020 Duration: 02h36min

On our latest podcast, we chat about what went down in Weatherfield between the 15th and the 19th June (Episodes #10,075 - 10,077). This week saw some characters thrust to the forefront who it feels like we haven't seen a lot of lately, namely Carla, Peter and Daniel, the latter of whom, fresh from getting over Sinead by bunking up with Bethany, comes close to getting over Bethany by bunking up with yet another bubbly blonde. Why do we get the feeling he needs to lay off the women for a little while? Meanwhile, over at the Rovers, Carla's mysterious visitor reveals herself to be someone from last year she owes money to - and this Scot from the squat has come to collect. Also this week, David prepares for Shona's return to Weatherfield, Arthur and Evelyn have another date, and Imran realises he could have an ally in Sally. Up next on the podcast, we head over to The Kabin to chat about some intriguing new Corrie specials revealed by ITV this week, and we round off the show with more of your listener feedback.

  • Corrie's Top Bad Boys - Episode 422

    13/06/2020 Duration: 01h27min

For this week's bonus podcast, we decided to chat about some of Corrie's finest bad guys from over the years. Here at Conversation Street, we love a good villain, and to add a bit of a twist to the discussion, we knocked up a set of Top Trumps cards featuring some of Weatherfield's biggest bad boys. Comparing categories like notoriety, cunning and damage caused, we pit dastardly duos against each other, all the while wallowing in the memories of some of Corrie's most explosive storylines.

  • Conversation Street Episode 422

    13/06/2020 Duration: 02h53min

On our latest podcast, we delve into the episodes of Coronation Street broadcast in the UK between the 8th and the 12th June (Episodes #10,072 - 10,074). There were some fantastic scenes between Yasmeen and Alya in the run up to Yas' plea hearing this week, and an edge of your seat cliffhanger on Monday that kept us guessing whether or not she'd muster the courage to say 'not guilty'. Also this week, Gary and Adam spend a suspiciously long amount of time hanging around a gaggle of teenage girls, whilst Scott and a Scot bring a bit of intrigue to the goings on at the Rovers. This week also saw the return to work for a lot of the Corrie cast and crew for the first time since March, and with virtual press conferences being held and news articles published in the media reporting on what it's been like, we take a look at what's been put in place at the studios to keep everyone safe. We're also joined by a special guest for part of this segment - Imran Habeeb actor Charlie De Melo, who chats to Michael about his pe

  • Conversation Street Episode 421

    06/06/2020 Duration: 02h02min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 1st and the 5th June (Episodes #10,069 - 10,071). This week, Corrie fans around the country could finally stop asking, "But why hasn't anyone found Geoff's camera?" and even though we may not have got a satisfying answer, at least we could enjoy the walls starting to close in on him. Will the Great Magnifico manage to escape this one? It all seems to rest on how Yasmeen pleads in court... Also this week, Asha puts Corey in his place, Gary grows concerned when Imran starts talking to Kelly, and Shona learns the hard way that oven gloves aren't just a kitchen fashion accessory. Next up on the podcast, we celebrate the news of Corrie's BAFTA nomination in The Kabin, and we finish things off with a bit of listener feedback. • COVID-19 Update - Episode 421

    05/06/2020 Duration: 01h34min

For our bonus podcast this week, which we're releasing early as it was just sitting there ready to go (and also the nature of the subject matter means it could well go out of date at any time!), we're chatting about Corrie's back to work plans. With lockdown measures easing and the number of episodes recorded up to March getting smaller and smaller, it's back to the cobbles for the cast and crew next week - but it's far from business as usual. There'll be social distancing, takeaways from the Rovers and episodes written specifically to fit three in a week - it's still going to be a while until the show goes back to normal, but it's a positive start! In this episode, we muse over a few ideas for how the gap between old and new episodes maybe bridged, ponder how more vulnerable cast members could still be included, and consider what lessons the higher ups at Corrie might have taken away after overcoming one of the show's biggest ever hurdles.

  • Listener Questions - Episode 420

    01/06/2020 Duration: 57min

Sorry for the late bonus episode this week! Somehow, despite having half as much Corrie to watch at the moment, we still managed to run out of webspace for May! In this listener questions segment, we tackle two more of your Corrie queries. First off, Rachel wants to know how what's the furthest Corrie has ever filmed away from the set. Yes, that could be a question we could answer and move on from in less than thirty seconds, but do you really think that'd stop us nattering on about Corrie's trips abroad for a good half an hour? Of course not! Next up, Reuben wants to know whether there are any generally disliked Corrie characters that we've got a soft spot for. In answering that, we consider firstly which characters don't tend to get a lot of love from many viewers, before coming to the defence of some of our Corrie favourites.
