191: The Discomfort Zone. 50 Miles with Clay Speakman
01/06/2020 Duration: 32minInspiring yourself and inspiring others are two challenging things to do. Inspiration, different then motivation lasts longer. Motivation is like taking a shower, you need to do it daily for it to work! Inspiration makes you search for greatness and doesn't let you quit. So this past Monday, I saw a post from a friend on Facebook saying that he was 90 doing a 50-mile run, an ultramarathon. After seeing that, I told him sure I think I'll run with you. After all the motto of his company Elevate OCR is "embrace the suck". Five days later, at 7:30 in the morning, we met at the beginning of what our course would be for the day. We had a two and a half mile loop that we would run in one direction, come back to the same spot then turn around and run it in the other direction to equal 5 miles. The goal is to do 10, 5-mile loops in 12 hours or less to equal 50 miles. In shape but untrained for this distance, I had to hone my innate superpower of embracing the suck and being insanely headstrong. To make this more

183: Adam Hergenrother on IMMUNOPALOOZA - be the water
13/04/2020 Duration: 31minI thought of bringing Adam Hergenrother to Immuno-Palooza, not because he is a physician or a health care provider, more so that he's an ultra-successful person that is purpose-driven and gets things done in his health and life and inspires others to do the same. He takes care of his billion-dollar body like his billion-dollar business empire! Here's a little about Adam (from his website): My story starts when I was a teenager. I was hanging out with the wrong crowd, dabbling in drugs, smoking cigarettes heavily, and using food as a way to escape from life. I was more than 100 pounds overweight, failing classes, and driving a piece-of-crap car. In short, my self-worth was nonexistent. One day my dad found me like that in my room and said, “You have two choices. You can accept where you are or you can change.” That was the day I told myself “Screw it. No more.” And I decided to change. One year later I was a hundred pounds lighter — physically, mentally, and emotionally. I had shed everything that wasn’t serv

175: 20 Miles and the Utah Lifestyle with the Graziosa's
09/03/2020 Duration: 20minSo I completed my first race of 2020, it was called the Naked Bavarian in Pennsylvania. When I registered, I thought to myself… I was injured in Oct. 2019 with a sprained left knee (lateral collateral ligament and partial tear of meniscus) during my first 100 mile run attempt and I’ve been training, lifting weights, running working on balance and instability exercises, so I should be ready. My knee felt good on all my runs. My longest distance before the 20 miler was 14 miles which was a little taxing. What I started to pay attention to as I’m training and wanting to build some serious knee strength and mobility so I don’t create the same injury again was my weight. For my 100 miler, I leaned out to 178lbs and I’m between 6’1 and 6’2. It was a great running weight for me. For the 20 I was at around 190-194 lbs. That’s a lot more weight to move around the trails for a few hours. I figured… I’ve got to start somewhere again and let’s see how I feel during and after 20 miles at that weight. Before I get

173: OCR training, giving the middle finger, and getting injured
24/02/2020 Duration: 17minI love life. I'm constantly picked on and asked, what are you up to now? What diet are you on? What type of training? Is it wrong that I'm a chameleon? Is it wrong that I am constantly searching for new things to learn and test out? I don't think so. It's really cool to figure out what works best for you in whatever stage of life you're in. The great thing, ist that I LOVE challenging myself and I love testing the boundaries of my comfort zone. The coolest part about this week was experiencing the healing process form a jacked-up middle finger I got when I fell from slipping on ice on a trail run. I jokingly said to my buddy Clay who was running with me: "why'd you push me?" and the Facebook comments were great! He said something like "when you're in a race and want to come in first, you do what you gotta do!" He didn't really push me! My finger was super swollen and had to be in a splint for 4-5 days. The injury happened on Friday and by the following Wednesday, my patients in the office were BLOWN
