This morning we continue our series from Exodus and conclude our section on the plagues of God upon Egypt. Remember the Hebrew word “nega” means to “strike or blow”. God had struck Egypt with nine blows, nine supernatural divine judgments; ye Pharaoh's heart was hardened and hew refused to release the Hebrew people. Now God announces “one final plague”, the plague that would bring about the deliverance of His people, “the death of the firstborn”.

In this section of Scripture we read of the most devastating series of Divine, Supernatural judgments in human history. These plagues are of epic proportion and a foretaste of God's final, end of time judgments as found in the book of the Revelation. Here in this passage we encounter the holy wrath of a sovereign God.

Going From Bad to Worse Exodus 5:1-7:7 Moses dealing with personal struggles and disappointments in putting God's plans into action

Moses' encounter with God at the burning bush left Moses with many concerns. Moses knew that he was not adequate for the task God had given him. Moses, like many of us, felt greatly insufficient and ill-prepared for the call God placed upon him. Moses' story is the story of every redeemed soul, our inability must meet God's sufficiency!

Psalm 127 brings a strong message on the house that God builds. It is a wisdom psalm about the priorities and practices of the family that is forged by faith. Instruction is given on how to establish a godly family with children who are used by God to further His kingdom. If you are to build a godly home you must by faith, trust God and His way. Here are four truths that are found in this passage that I believe will help us honor God in our homes.

The most dramatic encounters in Scripture are found when “frail, finite, insignificant human beings met the holy, sovereign God of the universe”. Whether they meet Him in a vision, a dream, or a manifestation such as a “burning bush”, it always leaves the individual forever changed. Moses meets God in the wilderness at the “mountain of God”.

Last week we focused upon the plight of God's people in Egypt; “gloom, despair and misery”. This morning we will explore the birth of a savior; a savior for the nation of Israel, as well as a Savior for the world. In this context we will discover the “sovereignty of God in saving His people”. Remember God is proactively engaged in all the circumstances that would bring about the deliverance of His people. As we did last week, we will seek to examine the historical narrative and make a few theological applications pertaining to the sovereignty of God in saving His people.

The opening chapter of Exodus brings us face-to-face with one of life's most perplexing realities: “Why do the righteous suffer?” and the counter question: “Where is God when we suffer?” In the narrative before us we have an example of this dilemma. These are the covenant people of God, people who possessed the promises of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. People who are now greatly enslaved, placed under great oppression and persecution.

When we begin a new journey, it is always wise to stop and get our bearings. So this morning before we begin this journey in “Exodus”, let us survey where we are and what we will encounter in this most fascinating book. The Exodus as seen from 30,000 feet!

This morning is a most glorious day! The day in which we celebrate the greatest miracle in the whole of human history, the physical, bodily resurrection of Jesus! The resurrection of Jesus is central to and foundational for the Christian faith. Without the reality of the resurrection, we might as well leave now and go get pancakes! However, if indeed the resurrection of Jesus is a reality, then what the Bible declares is most significant and worthy of our attention. If Jesus rose from the dead, then this opens us to a world of hope! For the One that defeated death and the grave, is the One who gives this same hope to those that come to Him!

Gospel in us

Today we close our series on the Holy Spirit with a brief examination of the Scriptures related to the spiritual gifts given by the Holy Spirit. This subject is quite controversial and subject to great misunderstandings; even to the point of creating division within the body of Christ.

We continue our study of the person, work and ministry of the Holy Spirit this morning. We have sought to lay a good foundation concerning the person of the Spirit. We understand the Spirit to be fully God, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son! As a Person, the 3rd Person of the Trinity, the Spirit can be sinned against. The Scriptures speak of several ways in which the Spirit may be sinned against. We will seek to discover three of these this morning.

This morning we examine one of the most significant and comforting realities in the Christian experience, the reality of our secure, unchanging position in Christ. Paul opens this letter to the Ephesian believers with the most glorious, most comprehensive, most praise worthy description of our salvation. This salvation is the result of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, and not the result of man's achievements.

This morning we continue our series on the Spirit's work in salvation with an examination of the “baptism of the Spirit, the indwelling of the Spirit and the filling of the spirit”. These topics are issues that have created a great deal of interest, as well as, confusion. Without question the rise of Pentecostalism and the Charismatic movement is a worldwide phenomenon, with the continents of Africa, Asia and South America being greatly influenced by this movement.

Last week we examined the Person and Personality of the Holy Spirit. This morning, we will focus our attention upon the “work” of the Holy Spirit in salvation. The work of the Spirit is both mysterious and marvelous.

This morning we begin a short series of the person, work and ministry of the Holy Spirit. Without question, our generation has woefully failed in our appreciation of the Holy Spirit. This reality may be due to two reasons.

This week we celebrated Christmas and tonight we “ring in the New Year”. Only us “fretful humans” could take a season that is supposed to be filled with “thanksgiving, peace and goodwill” and turn it into the most “stressful and anxious” times of the year. Webster tells us the word “worry” comes from a German word that literally means “to twist or tear apart; to feel distress, in mind; to be anxious, troubled or uneasy; stressed out”. There has never been a more stressed-out society than ours. The causes of stress are many; fear concerning the future, feelings of insecurity, financial pressures, work-related stress, family conflict, grief and countless other issues. The proposed remedies are equally numerous; breathing techniques, exercise programs, herbal aroma therapy, self-help psychology and a number of prescription medications. Why does Jesus care whether we worry or not? Because it is destructive both physically and spiritually? Yes! But more than that, it is a sin that

As we have been discovering, the Bible is God's revelation of Himself and He chose to do so through a story. The story of the Bible is consumed with glory of God, a God that has created, sustained and is now redeeming a people for His glory. Dr. Steve Weaver, “The Bible is the story of a God who makes a promise about a person who creates a people to live in a place with him forever.” God selected human authors to write down his story, one of these men was a prophet known as Isaiah. Isaiah has been called the “Messianic” prophet. He shares many specific prophecies concerning the coming Messiah.
