The opening chapter of Exodus brings us face-to-face with one of life's most perplexing realities: “Why do the righteous suffer?” and the counter question: “Where is God when we suffer?” In the narrative before us we have an example of this dilemma. These are the covenant people of God, people who possessed the promises of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. People who are now greatly enslaved, placed under great oppression and persecution.
