The most popular of the Smithsonians in Washington, the National Air and Space Museum now has two separate attractions -- the original museum and planetarium on the National Mall and the newer Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center just south of Dulles Airport in Fairfax County, Virginia. The downtown D.C. building is undergoing a large-scale, multi-year renovation that will introduce new galleries and public spaces, with the first installment unveiled in October 2022.
