After her first weight-loss surgery, which wasn’t very successful, she stumbled across the low-carb high-fat diet, which was very popular in Sweden where she was living in her early 20s, and heard about Bitten Jonsson and sugar addiction. She immediately identified with everything Bitten said and finally started making some progress. She battled for 8 years to get more than 30 days of abstinence from her trigger foods, always slipping and sliding. A constant back and forth of withdrawal and peace and weight-loss and weight

  • 141 - The Addiction Chronicles: Karen Hannah

    27/04/2022 Duration: 46min

In today's episode I talk with Karen Hannah and she shares her story of recovery over the past year.  Karen is 59 years old and was a sugar and carb addict for well over 50 years. She was put on her first diet at 7 years old, lied about her age to join Weight Watchers at age 14 and has yo-yo dieted her entire life. The irony was she wasn’t that overweight as a child but then she moved to a candy store when she was 13 and that set her firmly on the path for a lifetime of addiction to sugar. She dieted her way up to morbid obesity and Type 2 diabetes as an adult. All that changed when she heard about SUGARx Global almost a year ago via the Diet Doctor website where she re-watched Bitten Jonsson’s videos, then joined her Facebook group and heard about a 5-day Crush your Cravings challenge. She was desperate at that point, as by that time her diabetes was completely out of control, she was on three medications and facing daily injections, and still couldn’t stop eating sugar and carbs even though she knew th

  • 138 - The Addiction Chronicles: Danny and Catherine Mullaney

    06/04/2022 Duration: 56min

Danny and Catherine Mullaney met early in AA recovery as young adults. Over the last 3 decades they have been living by the spiritual principles laid out in the 12 steps. Despite that, the addiction to sugar has been a thorn in their side throughout. Catherine has been addicted to sugar most of her life, been on many diets since she was 8 years old, but until last year has never attempted to arrest the addiction. Danny has made attempts to abstain from flour and sugar but has never been able to maintain long term recovery in that area. Coming to terms with sugar being a psychoactive substance has enabled them both to yield their addiction to sugar the way the alcoholic must surrender the drink. Once again, these two have another reason to trust and rely upon their Creator. Their life’s motto is taken from the AA Big Book, “The spiritual life is not a theory. You have to live it.” In this leg of their ongoing recovery their food plans differ but their commitment to exquisite self-care holistically is the same.

  • 136 - Dr. Gary Fettke, MD

    23/03/2022 Duration: 58min

In today's episode I talk with Dr. Gary Fettke about his fascinating tale of not only his own health journey and cancer diagnosis, but also of being targeted by the processed food industry for speaking about the dangers of excess sugar consumption.  Dr. Fettke is an Orthopedic Surgeon and vocal proponent of nutrition being a major component of prevention and management of modern disease. In 2014, he became targeted by the processed food industry for his opinion on the perils of excessive sugar consumption, culminating in a ‘silencing’ by the Medical Board. 2018 saw a clearance of those charges with an apology from the board. In the process of that investigation, it became apparent that the issues were not just that of sugar reduction, but that of the recommendation of animal-based protein and healthy fats in a balanced diet. He has a broad understanding of the vested interests shaping dietary guidelines and particularly those around the anti red meat agenda. Website: https://isupportgary.com/ Hear more o
