  • Discover Music Project: Episode 17

    27/04/2011 Duration: 01h42min

DMP returns with special guest Grant Buell. This week, Grant joins Jonny in discussing one of Mr. Metts' personal favorite bands: Pink Floyd! The pair definitely have a lot to say, and there are some really fantastic (and unexpected!) choices here. As a rule, the pair are avoiding songs from Floyd's four major albums, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall. And as always, here's the set list: Astronomy Domine (Piper at the Gates of Dawn) Apples and Oranges (Single) Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun (A Saucerful of Secrets) One of These Days (Meddle) Several Species of Small Furry Animals... (Ummagumma) San Tropez (Meddle) Summer '68 (Atom Heart Mother) Fat Old Sun (Atom Heart Mother) Southampton Dock (The Final Cut) Two Suns in the Sunset (The Final Cut) Encore: Brad Smith - "Us and Them" (MOON8) Thanks for listening, guys! Remember, if you have a band to suggest, you can let us know via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the site.

    15/04/2011 Duration: 01h34min

Welcome back to Box Office Poison, everyone! Unfortunately, I was a little under the weather during the recording of this episode, but luckily, Stan jumped in to pick up the reins. Together with Jonny and Mike, they discuss a whole bunch of movies in the first segment, including Paul, Hanna, Mystery Team, The Karate Kid, Unstoppable and I think every other movie ever made. In the second segment, it was Jonny's pick for Movie of the Month: Miller's Crossing. Listen in and see what the boys thought of the Coen Bros. taking on 1920s gangsters. Next month we'll be watching They Live. Have a suggestion for a Movie of the Month? Just want to comment on something you heard? Send your thoughts, questions and concerns to us via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) and in the comments section on the site. Thanks for listening, guys! The long-awaited return of Hardcore Nerdography is over! Mike, Amanda and Dante return to discuss many things, including Pokemon, haircuts, the ever-popular Carl Sagan, vehicular fellatio and more! Well, not a whole lot more. I think that's probably 90% of the show. But I think that's a fair value for a podcast that's under an hour. Sheesh. Follow our hosts at @theothernorbit (Dante), @StrikerObi (Mike) and @supinternets (Amanda), respectively. If you want to date Dante, have something to say about Hardcore or if you just have words to share in general, you can do so via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or on Crosstawk.com in the comments section. 31/03/2011 Duration: 02h23min

Hey there, folks! On this very special episode of Box Office Poison, Jonathan Metts is joined by the fashionably absent Evan Burchfield to talk about David Lynch's 1984 Sci-Fi oddity, the screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune. Starring Kyle MacLachlan and Francesca Annis, the film was never really held in much esteem, but Jonny and Evan sure have a lot to say on it. So sync up the audio track with your DVD player and give this one a whirl! What are your thoughts on Dune? Let us know via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the website. Thanks for listening, guys! • Crosstawk Comics: Episode 8

    25/03/2011 Duration: 59min

Hey there, True Believers! Crosstawk Comics is back with a brand new episode. We had originally planned for this episode to cover Marvel 2099 and bring in our good buddy Jonny Metts, but we didn't have quite enough time to prepare, so Gus and I decided to fall back on an idea we'd been meaning to explore since the beginning: the Robins. The Boy Wonder's followed Batman around for over 70 years, and we're here to talk about who's worn the domino mask, what the differences have been, and how the role's evolved over time. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, you can let us know via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the website. Thanks for listening, folks. We'll see you on Monday for a very special bonus from Box Office Poison.

  • Discover Music Project: Episode 14

    16/03/2011 Duration: 01h38min

DMP returns with yet another batch of music for you to enjoy. This episode happens to guest star none other than me, Karl Castaneda. It turns out you folks like to suggest stuff for the show, so when a very special listener named Kevin insisted that Jonny devote some time to Chicago-based "dad rock" band Wilco, I gladly stepped in to assist him, seeing as how I've been a fan of theirs for years. So a very big thank you to Kevin! We had to pluck out a few choices to meet our timetable, but his fantastic set list provided the following: 1. Shouldn't Be Ashamed (A.M) 2. Misunderstood (Being There) 3. Sunken Treasure (Being There) 4. I Am Trying to Break Your Heart (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) 5. War on War (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) 6. At Least That's What You Said (A Ghost is Born) 7. Thelogians (A Ghost is Born) 8. You Are My Face (Sky Blue Sky) 9. Impossible Germany (Sky Blue Sky) 10. You Never Know (Wilco) 11. I'll Fight (Wilco) Encore: Woody Guthrie - "Jesus Christ" If you've got a band you'd like Jonny to discuss,

  • Crosstawk Presents: Our Thoughts on the iPad 2

    11/03/2011 Duration: 01h21min

The iPad 2 officially goes on sale today, so we thought we'd throw our thoughts in. This week, I'm joined by Jonny Metts and Andy Goergen (NWR Newscast) as we weigh in on Apple's tiny titan. Are we getting iPads? Was this enough of an update? What are we looking for in an iPad going forward? All these things and more will be answered in this Crosstawk Presents! What do you think of the iPad 2? Let us know via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) and on the website. Thanks for listening, guys! We'll see you on Tuesday for a brand new Discover Music Project!

  • Rough Draught: Episode 9

    07/03/2011 Duration: 01h11min

Hey, folks, sorry for the lack of updates this past weekend. Unfortunately, Hardcore Nerdography is going to be delayed for a bit due to some circumstances beyond our control. But we'd hate to leave you totally high and dry, so in advance of its planned release (this Friday), here's a brand new episode of Rough Draught: The Beer Appreciation Show. And for you Hardcore fans, this episode was taped in Tallahassee, Florida, and thus, in addition to Jon Rind and myself, Mike and Amanda are on the show! This month, we've got a ton of great beers, including Mike Sklens' Homebrew (~5%), Magic Hat Demo (6%), Southern Tier Phin and Matt's Extraordinary Ale (5.4%), Dogfish Head Chateau Jiahu (9%), Sierra Nevada's 30th Anniversary Grand Cru and a very special BONUS BEER. We'll see you tomorrow for a brand new Crosstawk Sports, and again on Friday f

  • Discover Music Project: Episode 13

    01/03/2011 Duration: 01h32min

DMP returns this week in a slightly different format. Due to some unforeseen technical difficulties, Jonny was unable to get a regular episode done in time for this week's release. Never fear, though, as he'll be hosting the show solo to give you an expanded look at Phish, his personal favorite band, and the subject of Discover Music Project Episode 1. As he says at the top of the show, if you haven't heard that episode yet, you'd do well to go back and listen, as he'll be getting into more advanced selections that aren't quite as palatable to Phish newbies. As always here's the set list: 2001 (12/30/2010 New York, NY) Water in the Sky (12/28/2003 Miami, FL) Free (12/29/2003 Miami, FL) Divided Sky (Junta - Studio Album) I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove (12/28/2009 Miami, FL) Fluffhead (12/30/2010 New York, NY) Waste (12/31/2010 New York, NY) Punch You in the Eye (12/31/2009 Miami, FL) I Didn't Know (3/6/2009 Hampton, VA) If you've got any recommendations for future episodes of DMP, you can get in touch with

  • Crosstawk Presents: The TAWK-112 Reunion Special

    26/02/2011 Duration: 01h52min

Back in October of 2008, I started a podcast with my three roommates, Phillip Snyder, Jonathan Rind and Michael Casper. We were also fortunate enough to have tons of great guest hosts, the most prolific being Jesse Laier. It was a bit rough to start, and we never really lost that roughness, but it was an experience that I'll treasure for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, it had to come to an end when I moved away from Tallahassee in August of 2009, and though we've all kept in touch, hung out and even still get together for various podcasts right here on Crosstawk, we've never all reunited for the show that started it all: TAWK-112. Thankfully, I made my way up to Tallahassee earlier this month to spend some time with the guys, record a couple Rough Draughts and generally have a great weekend. While I was there, though, we knew we had to record a one-off episode of TAWK while we had the chance, and so we did. We're going to go into detail on the show, but I can't even put into words how much I loved making

Hit us up via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the site. Thanks for listening, guys! We'll see you next week for brand new episodes of Discover Music Project and Hardcore Nerdography!
