Episodes

  • David Fincher Movies

    22/08/2017 Duration: 01h27min

Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each episode, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch two movies from a predetermined theme and break them down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Jacob and Annie prepare for whiplash as we come off a series of comedies and kid movies to take the gritty heaviness of two of David Fincher's classics. This week, Jacob and Annie went back to the 1990s with Fight Club and Se7en. Obviously, we are hung up on a certain decade... Things got real gritty as we take a dive into a genre that we haven't really tackled before, the big D. Drama. Unfortunately, neither of us were prepared for the serious battle it would take for one of these movies to be declared the winner of the Cinema Throwdown. • Road Trips

    01/08/2017 Duration: 01h22min

Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each episode, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch two movies from a predetermined theme and break them down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Jacob and Annie took a massive bong hit and chuckled through Eurotrip and Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. This week, Jacob and Annie went back in time to the mid 2000s (at least it wasn't the 1990s again!) to enjoy two delightful road trip movies. Eurotrip and Harold and Kumar were both surprisingly well received. In fact, both of these movies took us by surprise and we were totally impressed with them. This was a blast and it really came down to the wire. Thank you for downloading Cinema Throwdown and listening to a couple of friends banter about movies. • Dreamworks Animation

    17/07/2017 Duration: 01h21min

Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each episode, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch two movies from a predetermined theme and break them down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Jacob and Annie throw down in a stalemate between The Bee Movie and Monsters vs Aliens. This week, Jacob and Annie watched some Dreamworks Animation Studios flicks and they both hit a brick wall when neither of them would give an inch. Jacob reveals a secret crush (for the second time on this podcast) in partial defense of his movie and Annie just loves the Sein. There are a whole lot of laughs in this one. Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each episode, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch two movies from a predetermined theme and break them down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Jacob and Annie run in slow motion away from the beloved Horror sub-genre, the Slasher. This week, Jacob and Annie watched a couple of meta-movies, The Final Girls and Scream. We go over the movies and talk about what makes a slasher. It is our second episode of Cinema Throwdown Round Two and we are still tweaking things. Thank you for the support! • Early 1990's Kid's Movies

    19/06/2017 Duration: 01h21min

Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each week, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch a movie and break it down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Jacob and Annie revisit times long past on some Early 1990's Kid's Movies. Well folks, it is Episode 30 and it is time for a change! We are shaking things up a bit in terms of format and have revamped the show. Consider this Round 2 of the Cinema Throwdown. Jacob and Annie watched some early 1990's kid's movies this week and boy was it a blast from the past. There was some real debate, even if this was the awkward first episode of the new format. Blank Check didn't impress Jacob, but Problem Child presented the hosts with a real stinker. We hope that you enjoyed the start of round two! Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each week, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch a movie and break it down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Jacob and Annie lock and load to take on some Xenomorphs in Aliens. Jacob and Annie watched Aliens this week. Well we also watched Alien because we all know that is the good one. Anyhow, this one is all over the place folks. Both Jacob and Annie are a little out of their element with this franchise. Annie gets all messed up with the English language and Jacob feels the need to defend his right to opinion. This week is a long one! Thank you for downloading Cinema Throwdown and listening to a couple of friends banter about movies. Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each week, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch a movie and break it down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Annie makes Jacob watch the 2016 alien/linguistics/sci-fi sleeper hit Arrival. Jacob and Annie watched Arrival this week and this movie was neither polarizing or criticized harshly by the hosts. Although Jacob started off lukewarm, he found things to like and Annie always calls him out on his mind changing ways. The hosts get all high brow on time travel talk and Jacob pulls out a win with his version of an Arrival party. Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each week, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch a movie and break it down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Jacob brings Annie back to his childhood with a movie that might just be better off left in those memories with Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Jacob and Annie watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure for this episode and..... it was hit with some more criticism than both expected. Even Jacob had to admit that this was not the charming laugh riot that he seemed to remember. However, there was some real nostalgia going on and in the end, Pee Wee Herman won our hearts... not really, but you know. • Bridesmaids (2011)

    16/04/2017 Duration: 01h23min

Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each week, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch a movie and break it down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Annie takes Jacob out for bad bad divey food and he gets the worst gut cramps from the 2011 comedy, Bridesmaids. Jacob and Annie watched Bridesmaids this week and if you thought Jacob didn't enjoy Princess Bride, boy oh boy.... Although Annie enjoys this movie, Jacob struggles to understand why. Why is it so? Maybe because Annie was just a bridesmaid herself and was projecting a whole lot into this movie. They talk dancing (or the lack thereof) and general wedding shenanigans before digging into a movie that was extremely polarizing. Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each week, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch a movie and break it down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Jacob cryogenically freezes Annie's brain with the early 1990's action film, Demolition Man. Jacob and Annie watched Demolition Man this week and boy was it a blast from the past. Sylvester Stallone strikes back on Cinema Throwdown and brings Wesley Snipes with him to wreck house. Jacob loved this movie as a kid and it... well we cannot say with confidence that it holds up at all. Annie has some serious issues with some of the terminology and Jacob rocks the rabbit hole. • The Princess Bride (1987)

    20/03/2017 Duration: 01h31min

Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each week, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch a movie and break it down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Annie brings the pain to Jacob with a movie that he is supposed to love, Princess Bride. Jacob and Annie watched The Princess Bride this week, a movie that Annie tries to sell as the OG romantic comedy, which Jacob is not buying at all. Jacob is particularly harsh on this "classic" but that is because he was grumpy as hell before recording. No excuses. The episode is all over the place in tone. We hope you all enjoy this one because Annie sure did! This week, Jacob straight up slapped Annie in the face with Gentlemen Broncos. Jacob and Annie watched Gentlemen Broncos this week and even Jacob has to admit that this was a low blow. This was like a secret weapon, only to be inflicted upon the most hated of enemies. Gentlemen Broncos is one of Jacob's favorite movies, though he cannot understand why. Insane sci-fi, bizarre dialogue and even more bizarre delivery, and a story that is completely out of this world makes Gentlemen Broncos one of the strangest movies out there. • Twister (1996)

    20/02/2017 Duration: 01h18min

Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each week, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch a movie and break it down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Annie makes Jacob watch a total shitstorm of a movie, the natural disaster action flick Twister. Jacob and Annie watched Twister this week and boy was it a divisive movie. Jacob was way not into it while Annie couldn't help but sing its praises. The two really squared off on this one, even if both hosts could acknowledge that the bad writing really killed this one. Annie blazes through her Party Corner and Jacob leaves a scathing review. • First Blood (1982)

    06/02/2017 Duration: 01h05min

Cinema Throwdown is the only podcast featuring a showdown of cinematic proportions. Each week, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch a movie and break it down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Jacob brings the war to Annie with the first (and only good) entry in the Rambo franchise, First Blood. Jacob and Annie watched First Blood this week and things were way too awesome to complain about. Annie liked the movie, even if she opened with a very one dimensional opening shot. This movie has depth and try as she might, Annie could not deny the powerful story that dwells within the tragic tale of John. J. Rambo. Jacob finds something worthwhile down that rabbit hole and really makes it hard for her to refute. Also, Jacob talked way too much about the Sylvester Stallone Commentary Track. Each week, hosts Jacob and Annie challenge each other to watch a movie and break it down in an endless movie watching struggle. This week, Annie throws Jacob a dirty dirty curve ball with the very British time travel love story About Time (2013). Jacob and Annie watched About Time and try as he might, Jacob actually found something to connect to and experiences those mythical things called feelings. this movie actually got to both hosts and as cloyingly sweet as it was, the movie was found to be quite charming by both hosts. Annie throws a time travel party and Jacob gives a surprisingly favorable review. This week, Jacob returns to the original formula and challenges Annie to watch The Highlander. Jacob and Annie watched The Highlander and really had some conflicting opinions. Jacob holds The Highlander in such high regard while Annie... well not so much. However, Clancy Brown as the Kurgan made it all worth it in the end. Annie threatens Jacob with a beheading for this one.  Thank you for downloading Cinema Throwdown and listening to a couple of friends banter about movies. Jacob is not now, nor was he ever, a fan of Charlie Brown and Annie knew this going in. She had him watch A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965). As if it wasn't bad enough, each year Annie tries to get Jacob to watch Frosty the Snowman (1969). Oh boy did he lay into these shorts. We promise, we love Christmas just as much as everyone else!
