  • Conversation Street Episode 469

    08/05/2021 Duration: 03h21min

On this week's podcast, we talk about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 3rd and the 7th May (Episodes #10315 - 10320). What a week that was, eh? There'd been rumblings and rumours for a fair few months that something big was going to go down with the Street's younger residents, and this week saw Seb and Nina set upon by Corey and his mates in scenes that echoed the vicious attack on Sophie Lancaster in Salford in 2007. With every actor pulling out the stops to deliver some of Corrie's most compelling episodes in a long while, this was a week that was, at times, quite difficult to watch - let alone record a podcast about! - but ultimately one that will be remembered for years to come and will no doubt be the catalyst for some big story and character developments as we go through 2021 and beyond. After a bumper edition of Street Talk where we're left reeling from those final moments in the hospital, we head on over to The Kabin to share the happy news of Brooke Vincent's new addition to the fam

  • Seb Franklin Character Profile - Episode 469

    08/05/2021 Duration: 40min

For our bonus podcast this week, we do a character profile of Seb Franklin. Arriving on the Street back in 2016 as the scallywag boyfriend of Faye Windass, Seb soon took to the hearts of many a Corrie viewer after the reveal of his tough home life. A key player in the downfall of Pat Phelan, an initial suspect in the Underworld roof collapse and the hero who rescued Alina from slavery, Seb's had quite an eventful time on the cobbles, but it's surely his most recent story, in which he's violently attacked whilst walking home, that he'll ultimately be remembered.

  • Conversation Street Episode 468

    01/05/2021 Duration: 02h45min

On our latest podcast, we chat about what went down in Weatherfield between the 26th and the 30th April. This week, we discover the truth behind Sharon's return to the cobbles - will she be able to lead Harvey's cronies to Leanne? With Jenny on the case, we wouldn't be too sure, although to be fair, both Nick and Simon don't appear to be all that good at the whole 'no contact with the family' part of witness protection, so it could just be a matter of time... Also this week, Seb does his best to get back into Nina's good books, Asha moves in with Corey, and Todd discovers that working at an undertaker's isn't all fun and games - who'd have thought it? In The Kabin, there are a couple of news items about awards ceremonies that are up and coming - or not, as the case may be for the BSAs - then we finish off the show with more of your feedback. • Listener Questions - Episode 468

    01/05/2021 Duration: 58min

For our bonus podcast this week, we tackle another pair of your listener questions. First up, we take a look into the old crystal ball and try to predict which current characters are still going to be major players in Corrie when the 80th anniversary rolls around. After that, we chat about which characters we're surprised haven't left the show yet.

  • Conversation Street Episode 467

    24/04/2021 Duration: 03h26min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 19th and the 23rd April (Episodes #10303 - 103308). After what's felt like a fairly long period of relatively 'meh' Coronation Street, we were both very pleased (and more than a little relieved) to get a set of episodes that we both thought were largely very strong this week. We'd been looking forward to Sharon Bentley's return ever since it was announced last month, and her reunion with Rita and showdown with Jenny certainly didn't disappoint. Also on the Street this week, Fiz realises it really is all over between her and Tyrone, Aadi earns a cheer and an extra bag of luxury crisps from us when he lamps Corey, and Seb and Nina become the show's most most unexpectedly adorable couple. Aside from a few announcements of a handful of ex-Corrie stars' upcoming projects, there's not a whole lot of news this week, so we end up filling most of The Kabin with a couple of bits of podcast news for a change, then we round off the sh

  • Sharon Bentley Character Profile - Episode 467

    24/04/2021 Duration: 41min

After not being seen on the Street this side of the millennium, Sharon Bentley made a triumphant return to the cobbles this week, and in our bonus podcast, we do a character profile of this mischievous madam, running down everything she got up to during her original couple of stints on the show. Hopefully a handy guide for anyone who didn't catch her the first or the second times round!

  • Conversation Street Episode 466

    17/04/2021 Duration: 03h25min

On this week's podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 12th and the 16th April (Episodes #10295 - 10302). There's a lot to fit in this podcast, what with last Friday's Corries being delayed, and we start off our epic Street Talk segment by chatting about Peter Barlow's various woes of the week. Whether it's discovering that he may never see his son again, having his family bicker during a meeting to find out whether he's suitable for a liver transplant or ending Friday by face planting onto the cobbles in a shower of confetti, it's fair to say that Peter's had better weeks, but hey - he managed to fit in his sixth wedding too, so it could be worse. Also having a rough time this week is poor Cathy, who takes a cue from Leanne and goes into hiding to get away from her online tormentors - let's just hope for Leanne's sake she's done a better job of keeping her hideout from Harvey a bit of a better secret. Meanwhile, Tyrone's behaviour leaves us fuming, George's attemp

  • Martin Sterling Interview - Conversation Street Episode 466

    17/04/2021 Duration: 44min

For this week's bonus podcast, we're chuffed to be joined by Martin Sterling, a storyliner on the Street for 17 years, who's been responsible for some of the show's biggest moments of the 21st century. He chats with us about how someone who started off his working life in banking ended up rubbing shoulders with the likes of Barbara Knox and Liz Dawn, who he's most enjoyed writing for, and how the story team on Corrie manage to juggle so many balls at once when plotting out the life stories of our favourite characters.

  • Conversation Street Episode 465

    10/04/2021 Duration: 02h09min

In our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 5th and the 7th April (Episodes #10291 - 10294). This week, Ty's asking for trouble back home when he takes every possible opportunity come to Alina's rescue - and with his confession that he's actually in love with Miss Pop, is it well and truly over for him and Fiz? Meanwhile, Harvey vows revenge on Leanne when he's arrested after a police sting, Cathy digs herself a deeper hole by revealing Lemon Drop's secret identity, and Carla quits her job at the factory.. again. There's not really much in the way of news again this week, so we skip over The Kabin and head straight for the feedback segment next, where we find out what our listeners are loving and loathing about recent Corrie. • Classic Corrie Chat with Georgia Taylor - Conversation Street Episode 465

    10/04/2021 Duration: 53min

We've got a real treat for fans of Classic Corrie on ITV3 this week in our bonus podcast. Like many of us, actress Georgia Taylor has been wallowing in nostalgia with some of the episodes from the late 90s recently, so we thought it would be fun to have a chat with her about what it's been like revisiting some of the Battersbys' early days from January 1998. Georgia tells us how it's been, seeing those scenes on the Red Rec for the first time in over 20 years, reflects on her time working alongside Corrie greats like Liz Dawn, Julie Hesmondhalgh and Roy Barraclough, and shares which storylines from that era have gripped her the most second time around.

  • Conversation Street Episode 464

    03/04/2021 Duration: 02h38min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the goings on in Weatherfield between the 29th March and the 2nd April (Episodes #10285 - 10290) This week's episodes were dominated by the big Billy, Todd and Paul love triangle, which we're sure must have been pretty engaging if you're invested in any of the possible pairings - alas, we don't think any of the outcomes have any real potential, and this week's developments mostly just served to deepen our growing disdain for both Paul and Billy. Todd, at least, remains interesting to watch due to his excellent ability to conceal his true feelings and motivations, and colour us intrigued by his hiring at George's new funeral parlour on Friday's episode too! Also this week, Michael reels from the news of Ronnie's past relationship with Aggie, neither Ty nor Fiz can get Alina out of their heads, and Faye contemplates a year in prison (seriously, would any viewers even notice if she was gone?) In The Kabin, we share our thoughts on the Johnny Briggs tribute show that aired on

  • Melanie Hill Interview - Conversation Street Episode 464

    03/04/2021 Duration: 26min

For our bonus podcast this week, we're joined for an interview by Melanie Hill, who reflects on her six years on the cobbles playing Cathy Matthews. From her debut as a love interest for Roy to her current story, which has seen the Street residents pitted against her and Brian after her dalliance with online trolling, we chat about it all.

  • Conversation Street Episode 463

    27/03/2021 Duration: 02h34min

On our latest podcast, we check out the episodes of Coronation Street broadcast in the UK between the 22nd and the 26th March (Episodes #10279 - 10284). If, like us, you're fans of Fiz and Tyrone - or frankly, if you just like stripped back character moments with raw, natural dialogue - you were in for a treat this week when the revelation of last week's kiss between Ty and Alina came out in lengthy two-hander scene that showed Jennie McAlpine and Alan Halsall at their finest. Will the Dobbs-Stape household recover from Tyrone's wandering eye? Only time will tell.. Meanwhile, Leanne turns CHIS (yes, we've been watching the new series of Line of Duty) in an attempt to protect Simon from nasty Harvey, Daisy  finally gets something to do besides ragging on Johnny, and Todd resumes his meddling in Billy's love life. There's congratulations in store for Helen Flanagan in The Kabin, plus Michael finally gets round to reviewing The Land Girls From Coronation Street, and we finish things off with some listeners' thou

  • Tyrone Dobbs Character Profile Revisit - Episode 463

    27/03/2021 Duration: 59min

For this week's bonus podcast, we revisit the character of Tyrone Dobbs, who we first profiled way back in Episode #3 of Conversation Street. Eight and a half years later, and Tyrone's been up to quite a bit since, from hooking up with Fiz to falling through the attic floor to putting on the #BestChristmasEver for Hope - plus his back story's been well and truly rewritten thanks to the introduction of Evelyn. Here, we get the chance to share our full thoughts on a character who we both find really quite relatable, and ponder what we think the future might have in store for him.

  • Conversation Street Episode 462

    20/03/2021 Duration: 02h31min

On our latest podcast, we share our thoughts on the batch of Corrie eps that hit our screens between the 15th and the 19th March (Episodes #10273 - 10278). Now this isn't something you hear very often, but this week it was the Bailey family who took centre stage, as Michael becomes a father ten weeks early than he was expecting, and Ed becomes a grandfather... or does he? Yep, it looks like that history between Ronnie and Aggie that we all saw coming a mile off really did happen, which means that Michael may not even be Ed's biological son after all! Speaking of clearly telegraphed story developments, the spark that's been flickering between Tyrone and Alina grew into a full-blown flame this week as they shared a kiss in Victoria Gardens. Meanwhile, Cathy gets strangely obsessed with Brian's apparently insensitive request that Steve pay his papers, a rogue beetroot salad causes chaos at Abi's wedding dress trying on party, and Leanne delivers drugs to someone who reminded us of our Gemma's old boss.  With thi

  • Listener Questions - Episode 462

    20/03/2021 Duration: 01h22min

This week's bonus podcast is the first listener question segment we've had in a while. First up, we answer another 'What If..?' question, this time wondering how things would have been different as a Corrie viewer, producer or actor if social media had been a thing back in 1960. Which characters would have been shipped, how would stories have been different, and would we think about any of the actors differently if they were just a click away? After that, we tackle a question from someone who wanted to know out thoughts on retcons. We chat about some of the most notorious revisions of Weatherfield history, mulling over which ones irked us more and if there's any reason why sometimes we can be up in arms about the show's (thankfully quite rare) retcons, and other times we're happy to let them slide.

  • Conversation Street Episode 461

    13/03/2021 Duration: 02h51min

On our latest podcast, we chat about all things Corrie from the week of the 8th to the 12th March (Episodes #10267 - 10272). How much drama can you wring out of characters collapsing? This week, Corrie tries to answer that question by putting Kirk, Peter and Kelly in varying degrees of peril and having them be discovered by friends and family. Yep, if you watch Corrie for its numerous scenes at Weatherfield General (What? You don't?), you were in for a treat with this week's episodes. Meanwhile, back on the Street itself, Asha takes the news that Nina's finishing with her pretty hard, Fiz's teasing threatens to push Ty into the arms of another woman, and Seb, Alya and Sarah go down in our estimations thanks to their views on pets. Next up in the podcast, we head on over to The Kabin for a couple of small news stories (see how many minutes we can get out of the news that Jack Duckworth has come to the Words & Design app!), then after a feedback section that includes one listener's tribute to Mike Baldwin,

  • Jack James Ryan Interview - Conversation Street Episode 461

    13/03/2021 Duration: 28min

Jack James Ryan's portrayal of nasty drug dealer Jacob Hay has had a lot of Corrie viewers' tongues wagging over the past few weeks, and he's certainly got plenty of people on social media fired up too over the way he's treated Simon, Carla and Leanne. In this interview, which is also available on video here, Michael and Jack talk about what it's been like bringing the character of Jacob to life, how he got into acting, and filming under COVID restrictions.

  • Conversation Street Episode 460

    06/03/2021 Duration: 02h33min

In our latest podcast, we discuss the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 1st and the 5th March (Episodes #10261 - 10266). After going through a bit of a rough patch this past month or so, Corrie definitely felt like it was on the up this week. Getting Paul away from Billy and in with the likes of Daniel and Ed is the best thing that's happened to him for a while, and the Alahans and were back in focus, meaning more great lines from Dev and Aadi and realistic relationship dramas for Asha and Nina; meanwhile, both of the Connors got a big thumbs up from us this week too - Jenny for not putting up with any of Daisy's meddling and Johnny for taking his meds. Speaking of which, can someone please prescribe some chill pills for Yasmeen and Leanne? Watching them struggle with their family issues is pretty stressful to watch at times!  Next up on the podcast is The Kabin, where there's a whole bunch of news to report on this week, including the sad (Johnny Briggs and Frank Mills' deaths), the h

  • Tanya Pooley Character Profile - Episode 460

    06/03/2021 Duration: 50min

Daisy's back to her meddling ways this week, but if she really wants to find out how to ruffle some feathers in the Rovers, she could definitely pick up a few tips from our bonus podcast this week, which is a character profile of bitchy barmaid Tanya Pooley. She may not have been in the show long back in the mid-90s, but thanks to her scheming ways, she's definitely gone down as one of Corrie's most memorable female villains.
