The Women’s Action Coalition, Greater Allegany County began following the  the Women’s March in Washington, DC, January 21, 2017. Their mission is to increase our understanding of the current political situation, take action to bridge divides, and acknowledge the inherent value of each person, without exception.  This episode we will be promoting the First  Book Discussion in partnership with the Allegany County Public Library system; Hillbilly Elegy. This book will help kick start dialogue and hopefully bring about change and understanding. The talented Michael Lipton joins us to discuss his upcoming show with his band the Carpenter Ants benefiting WFWM public radio. Mr. Lipton a very talented guitarist has been playing on  Mountain Stage for the past 30 years, and established the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame. Gregg Wolff is back to discuss the Highland American Music Series Presents! A Special Weekend of music to benefit Frostburg State University's Public Radio station WFWM. Suzy Snow is joining us for her third appearance on the show, she is the owner of Wholesome Harvest Food Market in Frostburg MD and she is celebrating completing her first year in business. Kit Pepper makes her first appearance on the show to discuss her great art gallery space Sadie's 87 East Main Street in Frostburg Maryland. The gallery where "Gathering is an Art" is open     nine days a month, from the first Friday to the second Saturday. Each month brings new artwork, a fresh theme and new events. Hours are late afternoon, early evening during the week (Monday-Thursday), later on Friday, all day on Saturdays and Sunday afternoon. Jennie is back to discuss the second annual Kids Camp for beginner and experience knitters. Over three weeks in July you can join the fun for a weeklong camp as they explore how yarn and knitted things are made. Karen Lau and Brent Weber stopped by the show to discuss the FSU Summer Music Academy, in it's second year and very much a passion project for Karen, they have grown the Academy and 24 students will be participating in this fun week long academy. The Frostburg State University Summer Music Academy was created with the mission to promote classical music education all over the world.  The Summer Music Academy will help the young students develop an appreciation of culture through musical experiences. This academy will bring top artists from around the world to the Western Maryland as guest artists and teachers and they will be performing in the evenings. The Academy and the concert series is runs from July 22-28 2017. All performances are in Peeler Hall at 7pm (3:30pm on July 22 only) in the Performing Arts Building on Frostburg State University Campus. Bethany Doyle and Amber Haning discuss the upcoming urban scavenger hunt in Frostburg Maryland on May 13, 2018 from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Bethany and Amber joined forces with Frostburg State University librarian Mary Jo Price. The Fracking Ban movement in Western Maryland has been gaining momentum over the course of several years, and has culminated in legislation to Ban Fracking in the state of Maryland.  This grassroots effort faced a lot of challenges but was able to overcome them with hard and educating the public at large of the negative effects fracking would have on our area. It is never to late to get involved and this proves that the power really lies with the people.
