The last three games for Florida against division leaders have have put the Panthers back on track as a message that they're still the team that they have to get through in the Eastern Conference. Matthew Tkachuk, although he had one shot in the two games, truly set the tone from an emotional standpoint where the Canes lost their composure on a few occasions. There were quite a few special teams swings, especially in game two where they scored moments after killing off a penalty, and used their toughness to even out calls. We discuss the Panthers December where this weekend starts a set of games against non-playoff teams, and how the Panthers will play t

28/11/2024 Duration: 37minOn today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta(@fjojr and @FLACatsHistory) to break down the Panthers 5-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, where it was domination from the start, and it manifested into two power play goals, a short handed goal, and an empty netter as the Cats put an end to their four-game losing streak and are now one point behind the Leafs with Toronto having a game in hand. It was the return of Anthony Stolarz, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Steven Lorentz and they received their championship rings on Wednesday morning, and were honored in the middle of the game, but it was spoiled not even midway through the first period as the Panthers got two goals 50 seconds apart in the first and never let up from there. Sam Reinhart scored his fourth shorty of the year (17th overall) and Carter Verhaeghe now has two goals in the last three games. The Panthers gave Sergei Bobrovsky every opportunity to see the

Panthers Inability to Create Proved Costly As Losing Streak Reaches Four Games, Capitals Win 4-1
26/11/2024 Duration: 36minOn today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Langsam(@PTPJacob) of the Panther Pourri Podcast to break down the Panthers' 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals where the Cats got out to a 1-0 lead 7:00 into the game, but were unable to add on to the scoring. The Capitals were able to prevent the Panthers to cleanly break out of their own end, and gave the Panthers little time and space in the offensive zone. One theme was consistent throughout the evening, missing the net, where with the team being on the skid they're on it now seems as if they're over thinking their shot decisions once they get the puck in their opponents' zone. Spencer Knight got the start and also gave the team a chance to win where it was 2-1 before the Caps scored two empty netters. The game went into the third period with the game tied at one before Washington scored on a 5-on-3 power play, and they went on to play their shutdown defense for the rest of the period where the puck

22/11/2024 Duration: 36minOn today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday, where they broke down the Panthers 3-1 loss against the Chicago Blackhawks. It's now the Panthers' third straight loss at The United Center. Although the Panthers controlled the play, the high danger chances were not up to their standard. They held the young phenom in Connor Bedard without a single shot attempt, and the Barkov line was the line that mostly created in the offensive zone, including Sam Reinhart's 15th goal of the season. However, his goal came not before the Blackhawks scored off a clean exit 34 seconds before. The Panthers made a few changes to their top power play unit with Aaron Ekblad running the point, and shifted Mackie Samoskevich up to the third line mid game. Are there changes coming with the Cats playing three of their next four at home? The guys give their three duds of the game, and the moment where they knew the gam

The guys then chat about the Blackhawks struggling to score goals as they are dead last in goals for. Connor Bedard constantly draws the best matchups, where he's stuggled to get pucks on net. The offseason for Chicago was all about complimenting the young phenom, but hasn't quite worked out as they have lost five of their last six games. There are also a good amount of injuries for the Hawks, as well as a surprise scratch from a few nights ago that sparked confusion. The two then discuss where they think the two teams will be once they meet again in February, and give a prediction for tonight's game. We discuss this

Jets Speed The Difference as the Panthers Comeback Falls short, Season Series Split in 6-3 Loss
20/11/2024 Duration: 36minOn today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday. The two broke down the Panthers' 6-3 loss where they controlled play for a good majority of the first period, but Winnipeg's speed made the Panthers pay in the final 5 minutes of the first to get them into a two-goal deficit, one of them with their inability to break out of their zone. The Cats inability to break out continued on their end on the penalty kill when the Jets scored seconds after the power play ended, as the puck was in the Cats zone for almost the entirety of the man advantage. Florida killed a 5-on-3 early in the second period, and the fourth line gave them a bit of energy going into the third period down two. Panthers special team helped cut the deficit to one on more than one occasion with one of their power plays goals with the extra attacker on. Although they drew a penalty and had an opportunity to tie the game on the powe

Panthers Took Care of the Jets on Saturday and Continued to Show Why They're the Standard
18/11/2024 Duration: 39minOn today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Matt Lichtenstadter(@MattsMusings1) to discuss the Panthers' 5-0 win over the league-leading Winnipeg Jets on Saturday where it was seen as more of a litmus test for Winnipeg than for Florida. The Panthers were the dominant team from the start as it was one of the many times this season where they had woken up following a loss. It came down to the top players leading the way with Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart getting two points each, Gustav Forsling ended the evening with a +4. More importantly, the Panthers were exceptional with disrupting the Jets' breakouts and still were able to continuously throw the kitchen sink at Vezina Trophy favorite, Connor Hellebuyck. 15/11/2024 Duration: 36minOn today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday to break down the Panthers' 6-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils for their second straight loss in a row at home. It came down to the 50-50 battles in the offensive zone, and poor breakouts out of their defensive zone. Sam Bennett returned to the lineup, with Jesper Boqvist playing on his wing. Special teams ultimately made a difference as the Devils scored on their first three power play attempts. The Panthers also did not help themselves with up a goal with less than 15 seconds left in a period on two occasions, which had the Panthers chasing the game all night. Missing Sam Bennett, Opportunistic Devils End Panthers Winning Streak At Seven
13/11/2024 Duration: 37minOn today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) to break down the Panthers' 4-1 loss against the New Jersey Devils at home to end their winning streak at seven. Sam Bennett was a surprise scratch as Jesper Boqvist was inserted into the second line center spot, and Mackie Samoskevich drew back into the lineup. Panthers had the pressure on NJ, even having a 5-on-3 at the end of the first period, which they failed to capitalize while they went to the intermission trailing by one. Panthers did end up scoring on the man advantage in the second period with Sam Reinhart scoring his 12th of the year as the race for the Rocket Richard continues. New Jersey were the better team regarding the Neutral zone as Spencer Knight had a good amount of stops on the evening, but too much to overcome as the Devils put the game out of reach with both Sam Reinhart and Matthew Tkachuk went to the box toward the end of the third period. What did the guys t

It seems that New Jersey is right back on track after making it to the second round in 2023, but missing the playoffs in 2024, due to injuries, and a lack of goaltending. With plenty of changes, along with bringing in a new coach in Sheldon Keefe, there is a possibility that the window is just opening for the young Devils squad. 08/11/2024 Duration: 35minOn today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday to recap the Panthers' 6-2 win over the Nashville Predators, where the Panthers got on the scoresheet quickly and took it over from there with organized play in all three zones. Puck support truly helped the Panthers get out in transition. Sam Reinhart and Aleksander Barkov set the tone with gaining the zone with ease to start, it eventually ended up with Reinhart finding the back of the net, which was the start of what would be a route in Sunrise. Evan Rodrigues stayed hot with his third straight game with a goal, Carter Verhaeghe notched two on the evening after a recent discussion on how snakebitten he's been throughout the early portion of the season. Florida was able to not allow a shot by Filip Forsberg, Jonathan Marchessault and Gustav Nyqvist on the evening. Panthers got eight power play opportunities, converting on two against the leag

Two Weeks Away From Sunrise, The Panthers Welcome A Desperate Predators Squad
07/11/2024 Duration: 34minOn today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Emma Lingan(@emma_lingan) of The Hockey News and Locked On Predators to discuss tonight's matchup between the Cats and Preds. Nashville was the talk of the offseason with being the team that bought the most with veteran players like Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei to the mix. After Nashville went on their long run towards the end of the regular season, the expectations looked to have ramped up going into this year. With getting off to a 4-8-1 start, it's taken a lot longer for the new pieces to mesh together. GM Barry Trotz also went on the radio the other day to discuss the state of the team, are his comments something or nothing? Is former Panthers interim coach Andrew Brunette's seat hot?
