Barbells & Bs

Informações:

Synopsis

Barbells & BS was born of a desire for three friends to find a way to get what they talked about in the gym to a larger audience of people. Matt Murphy, Justin Davis, and Vic Rosales posess years of knowledge on topics ranging from endurance and weightlifting training to sport specific diet and training needs. In addition to ourselves, guests will frequently appear to provide unique insight and knowledge that we may not be able to provide. Of course, the 'BS' in Barbells & BS will be prevalent throughout. There's really no telling where the conversation will go. We do our best to earn the 'explicit' label. Enjoy!

Episodes

  • #13: Max Aita

    19/02/2016 Duration: 59min

After a brief, save one incredible visit to Caffeine and Kilos, 6 month haitus, Barbells and BS is back. For our first episode back in the saddle, we headed down to Emeryville, CA to talk to Max Aita. Max trains Olympic and powerlifters out of Max's Gym, located behind Crossfit Oakland. Max is one of the most knowledgable coaches either of us have ever been around. His experience and understanding of the science behind lifting is second to very few in the strength world. We talked about his time training with the Bulgarian method, the differences between training online and in-house lifters, the difficulties in finding time to focus on one's own lifting as a coach, and what's next for Max's Gym. Please comment on the quality of the sound, we have a new recording set-up and it took...awhile to learn how to use it.

  • #12: Charlie Zamora

    09/10/2015 Duration: 59min

Really excited to be back this week with a new episode featuring Caffeine and Kilos CEO and co-founder Charlie Zamora. Charlie is a really passionate guy who takes the role that Caffeine and Kilos plays in the strength and fitness world very seriously. We talk about the company's journey from an idea that Charlie put on a tank top in 2013 on his own to an LLC corporation that is one of the biggest brands in the fitness world. Charlie is a great guy and an awesome exampe of taking the things you love and making a living out of them. Quick note, Barbells & BS is NOT gone but episodes will be fairly spaced out for the immediate future. Believe it or not, while we love doing this, it does not pay the bills and we do have to work it around each of our schedules. We're looking at getting back to a more regular schedule in 3-4 months. In the meantime we will still be producing episodes with awesome guests, just a little less frequently. Thanks for sticking around. Follow the show on Instagram and Twitter @barbel

  • Episode #7: Silent Mike Farr

    09/07/2015 Duration: 01h11min

Today's guest is Silent Mike Farr of Supertraining Gym in Sacramento, CA. Mike has been a mainstay at the strongest gym in the west for the last few years as he helps Mark Bell grow the reach of the Slingshot brand and create some of the most viewed content in the fitness community in Mark Bell's Powercast, Mark's supertraining06 Youtube channel, and now his own Youtube channel. Mike is a wealth of information when it comes to strength training and we had a great time talking training for high school athletes, the popularity of looking like you lift, and what it's like to train with some of the best lifters in the country on a weekly basis. Apologies for the audio, it's a little quiet as we were all a bit further from the mic than usual. Special thanks to Les Morris and Knockoutz Fitness in Woodland, CA for allowing us to record this episode in their gym.
