The full first hour of The Sports Weekend with Steve Thomson. Regam McAthie from Concordia St Paul stops by. Steve goes over a limited slate of College Football scores. Steve and Lindsey discuss Lindsey Vonn and Philip Rivers big weekend out of retirement.

Regan McAthie is the Athletic Director for Concordia St. Paul. She’s in Sioux Falls where Concordia will compete for the NCAA DII Volleyball title today vs MSU Denver. The team is no stranger to the title stage, with a victory they would secure the program’s ninth championship. Their roster features a ton of Minnesota talent, Regan speaks to the volleyball hotbed we have here in our backyard. Regan played volleyball for Augustana and has family connections to the tournament. She provides her expectations for the title match tonight and kind of team they’re playing against.

As always during this time of year, Steve and Jonathan Lowe keep you updated on the scores and results from the college football landscape across the nation including a visit with Pat Coleman from D3 Football and Chris Hine from the Star Tribune and Aaron Worm! Plus, Jonathan and Steve’s thoughts on Matt Campbell being hired at Penn State from Iowa State and the Lane Kiffin/LSU saga. Lindsey also shares some old scouting notes on JJ McCarthy from her days covering football in Vegas.

Chris Hine covers the Minnesota Timberwolves for the Star Tribune. He joins Steve to talk about the Wolves’ win over the Pelicans. They are now winners of four straight. Chris says the team is still trying to find its way defensively and has a lot to emulate in a certain other team down in Oklahoma. They also touch on the Clippers drama with their release of Chris Paul in the middle of the night earlier this week.

He joins Steve Thomson to talk about the stinker of a game the Wild played against the Flames but its probably the worst they’ve played in a month. Jess blames early power play ineptitude. They also touch on the Wild keeping the Oilers offense in check. Jess previews tonight’s matchup against the Vancouver Canucks who are mostly a dumpster fire. They also discuss some college hockey and the World Junior Classic.

Every Saturday at 4:07pm the meeting of the Steves commences. The cold is here and Carney is here to update on ice conditions. He pleads for caution to those who’ve decided to drive 4x4s on the ice already, especially with the snow that’s expected over the next few days. Carney opens up a can of Stop That about the use of forward fishing sonar.

He anticipates being able to walk out sometime around December 10th-12th but Red Lake is opening next week. They also touch on the ongoing pheasant season and the opening of muzzle loader season. They also touch on proper boat/battery storage in the winter… DO NOT TARP YOUR BOAT.

Jess Myers covers the Minnesota Wild for the Pioneer Press. The begin their conversation with a northern Minnesota hockey lovefest before shifting gears to the Wild's win over the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Jess notes that the Wild haven't played from behind for a number of games. November has been much kinder to the team in terms of results... maybe due to both their goaltenders running HOT.

Every Saturday at 4:07pm the meeting of the Steves commences. He's finally gonna get a chance to hunt some ducks in the next few days. He's looking forward to the cold front moving in later in the week. The Steves also chat about water levels, snow pack and being smart about wading out onto the ice.

Jess Myers from the Pioneer Press joins Steve Thomson to preview tonight's matchup between the Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks are a bit of a surprise this season so Jess expects a good contest. They talk a bit about the immediate schedule for the Wild ahead of the Thanksgiving break and the Black Friday matinee vs the Colorado Avalanche. Steve asks about the establishment of the Wild’s goaltending tandem. They also touch on the struggles of the Gopher men’s hockey team.

Fishing has been great especially with the unseasonably warm weather but he's finally putting his boat away and transitioning to ice fishing season. Carney says the duck gods continue to smite him or at the very least ignoring his existence.
