This session of the radio show shares my conversation with Ted McIntyre, Franklin resident and climate activist. We met to record at the Franklin TV & Radio studio on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.  We continued making sense of climate by working our way from good weather to Mexico’s election of the first woman president (also a climate scientist) to the pros/cons advocating for a “Sustainability Director”, to local activity in lieu in action by government bodies, to the potential of the MA climate omnibus containing an authorization of nuclear power as ‘clean’ and touched on a few other topics along the way. This discussion continues our journey understanding the MA roadmap toward net zero and while it helps me “make sense of climate”, we hope it helps with your understanding as well. If you have climate questions or Franklin specific climate questions, send them in and we’ll try to answer them in a future session.  The conversation runs about 49 minutes. This session shares the audio for the Davis Thayer Building Reuse Advisory Subcmte meeting held on Monday, June 10, 2024. The meeting was conducted in the Council Chambers. They had not met this year awaiting the receipt of Expression of Interests in the building/property. This session shares the Comprehensive School Facility Planning Subcommittee meeting of Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Subcommittee Chair Dave Callaghan, Al Charles (remote), Erin Gallagher, Supt Lucas Giguere, Asst Supt Dr Tina Rogers, Asst Supt Paula Marano, Business Administrator Dr Bob Dutch, Food Service Director Colin Boisvert, and Facilities Director Mike D’Angelo participated.Review of the Phase I planning for June was provided. Progress on the timeline is being made with announcements coming before the end of this school year. Preliminary data shared to highlight the juggling being done to help determine the best alignment for equity in enrollment for the new schools, distribution of the students for demographic and other factors. The redistrict line remains to be determined and that proposal will likely be shared in advance of a school committee vote to approve that alignment in Sept/Oct.The administrative teams for the new schools (principals, assistant principals, etc.) will be announced in advance

This session of the radio show shares the Override Q&A session conducted at the Franklin Senior Center on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Town Administrator Jamie Hellen was joined by School Superintendent Lucas Giguere and School Business Administrator Dr Bob Dutch to provide an override and answer many questions. Town Clerk Nancy Danello provided an update that as of that afternoon, 3700 ballots had been cast for the early voting on the June 11 Special Election. She was also there to answer questions on the election process but none were raised.Many of the questions were asked by skeptics in the group. It seemed apparent that some myths were dispelled, yet despite the info, some seemingly were not changing their minds.  The conversation runs just less than 2 hours. This session shares the Franklin Master Plan UPdate Committee meeting held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. The meeting was conducted in a hybrid format with most in the 3rd floor training room and a few participating remotely. Quick recap:Subcommittee Reports - They did get through the round of updates from the subcommittee chairs (with 1 exception). Subcommittee Chair Dave McNeill, Dr Paul Griffith, KP Sompally, Supt Lucas Giguere, Business Administrator Dr Bob Dutch and current Asst Business Administrator Janaina Vasconcelos-Melotti participated.My notes from this session:Overview of agenda from Supt Giguere, Dr Dutch provides update on scenarios being prepared, 35+ staff possible if the override fails, some of the estimates depending upon how the teacher contract handles the individuals and their status, licensure, tenure, etc.If fees go up, then some of the cuts could decrease. There is more coming in the SchCom meeting about use of the revolving funds, there is nothing more there to use, albeit some folks not quite accepting/understanding itThe cuts, if the override does not pass, will increase class sizes, and course loads for teachers and other staff will also increase.
