The St. Louis Cardinals lost 4-3 to the Milwaukee Brewers tonight, and it was in large part due to the team not executing the little things. They gave the Brewers a few extra outs early that led to some runs, plus the offense stranded 11 runners on base and hit 1-6 with RISP. While the offense did prove Josh Hader is human, they were unable to score any runs off of him in the 9th. All in all, it's a tough loss to swallow but the focus must move to winning two of the next three at home. (Also, Paul Goldschmidt is on another level right now).WANT MORE DAILY ST. Jordan Hicks was unable to impress in his first start without a short pitchbout, and it was his second consecutive unimpressive. While I've been vocal about giving him a chance to start, it's becoming more and more clear that the Cardinals need to find another option. Rondón? Woodford? External? Paul Goldschmidt's grand slam in the 10th inning gave the Cardinals their most dramatic win of the season. Despite striking out three times, Goldy found a way to come through. It's a sign of the whole offense starting to click on a more consistent level over the last week. With the Cardinals playing the Pirates, it was hard to tell the actual success vs just playing the Pirates. However, doing it against a team like the Blue Jays gives us a little more of an idea as to who this offense can be. The question on today's show is why? The St. Louis Cardinals dominated in just about every fashion in their road sweep of the Pirates this weekend. Adam Wainwright was great on Friday, the bullpen (namely Giovanny Gallegos, Drew VerHagen and Ryan Helsley), was phenomenal Saturday, Angel Rondón was a lifesaver Sunday and the offense came alive Sunday afternoon. This was a huge gain of momentum ahead of a very difficult schedule for the St. Louis Cardinals as they face three playoff-caliber teams with deep October runs in mind.
