We often "dine out in the past" talking about places and dishes we remember. This might be Dining Out In The Future as we talk with three up-and-coming food makers from Rhode Island: Paul Kubiski of Bootblack Brand Cocktail Syrups; Dr Kathryn Oh of Hopscotch Koji Breakfast Puddings; and Addison Caproni of Bow Bar. So we boldly say, Valentine's Day is the Super Bowl of Romance. When you hear this menu from Chef Antonio Petri at the Waybury Inn in Middlebury, Vermont, you'll know what we mean.

It's one of those "Is A Hot Dog A Sandwich" questions. It was asked by a well known maker of cream cheese. Challenge - Bagel bakers: Come up with a bagel without a hole to hold more cream cheese and stuff. The Montreal part is even more intriguing. Montreal bagels are a bit of a different breed and very popular outside of Montreal as well. St. Viateur Bakery is considered the leader in Montreal and the only bakery in Canada chosen for this social experiment. Owner Vince Morena and I talked about how it went.

I have said it before - Brunch is back in a big way! It is often the best part of the weekend. Everyone has their favorite brunch spot and new ones fill up quickly. The Kitchen Table in Richmond, Vermont has been making many friends since chef-proprietor Craig Anthony started it at the beginning of the year. And there is some breaking news to share. Enjoy!

The legendary Von Trapp Brewing Co. in Stowe, Vermont, is doing a "rebrand" of its craft beer packaging from 6-packs to tap handles. The amazing beers will stay just as amazing but the look will "POP". It's exciting. Here we have two people from von Trapp (or simply "Trapps" if you're extremely cool) - Emily Provost, Marketing Manager and Mike Whitty, our Director of Sales and Marketing, who were in on the project. And they both are extremely cool.

The number one answer seems to be, "It's always the Golden Age of Pizza!" We eat a lot of it. Will pizza consumption ramp up as the Super Party gets closer ? (note: here in New England we no longer care who's in the game cuz it ain't us) Pizza expert Bill Kitsilis has answers by the slice.

Molto bene. Actually some friends and I are going to speak Braciole and Escarole. Braciole is having a moment thanks to The Bear. There is a little disagreement on how to pronounce it but I know someone who knows his way around braciole. Carmine Balzano has been making it for decades. First, however is a stroll through the Italian Garden with Mary Minetti. Delicioso!

A new year is a great opportunity to gain new knowledge. The idea of the clean slate can be very appealing. Just as appealing is an enjoyable glass of wine on a winter evening. The Coast Guard House is presenting its second annual Wine Boot Camp series at the seaside landmark restaurant in Narragansett RI. The series is directed by Elisa Wybraniec, Wine Director at Coast Guard House, and a Certified Sommelier. This is one Boot Camp you will enjoy.

Food Dude becomes Music Nerd for a half-hour. A new Beatles record, a new Rolling Stones album and a new Cream album. Just how far did we turn the clocks back? On November 3, 2023, an acoustic tribute album to Cream as performed and recorded by a stellar cast of family members and close friends and those influenced by "the world's first supergroup". I had an amazing conversation with Malcolm Bruce, Jack Bruce's son on release day. The Gilfeather Turnip is the Official Vegetable of the State of Vermont. It is the only turnip that has its own Festival just wrapped up in late October in Wardsboro, Vermont. The art exhibit that took on a life of its own. Just about every portrait of Vermont that makes us long for a life in the Green Mountain State has been brought together in one exhibit from the collection of Lyman Orton, an authority on showing the Vermont we all love.
