The Sub Vet, Eric Ryle, is back to talk about submarines and Veterans Day. This week we learned that a long time Navy Metallurgist lied for years about the testing of steel used in Navy ships and submarines. Now, for Dave and Eric, it didn't make any difference as their boats were much older, but it does raise questions about the quality of the steel used in today's boats. But more than that, it raises questions about the overall safety and security of the Navy's operations.

Eric Ryle of The SubVet.com is back to talk with Dave about their expert opinions of the latest news on the USS Connecticut. First off, the Navy had kind of admitted that the submarine hit the bottom, somewhere in the South China Sea. Then the Navy sort of released an official picture of the boat, although technically it’s a picture of the SecNav talking last week with the Captain of the Tender in Guam. The Connecticut just happens to be in the background. But it’s clear from the accidental photo that the boat didn’t surface under anything. On Thursday the Navy announced that the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer and the Chief of the Boat had all been relieved for loss of confidence. And hinted that there was some bit of procedural non-compliance. Since Dave and Eric are both Strategic Weapons Weenies and have extensive knowledge of SSN operations, they are clearly the guys to listen to for the latest updates on what happened. Elijah Woods, of LOTR fame, recently acquired an NFT about which he tweeted, quite proudly. Subsequently, he has been accused of racism by proxy and threatened with cancellation. I have several questions, for which I have almost no answers. First off, who in their right mind would buy an NFT? Next up, why would you tweet about it? Lastly, what kind of useless too-much-time-on-your-hands loser do you need to be to have a fit about it all?

So… according to a Gallup poll conducted last month, Americans “trust in the media” has plummeted to the second lowest point ever. We could get off into the weeds about “what is media?” but for our purposes, let’s just assume that it consists of Newspapers, Television news programs and radio. The so-called “legacy media” and not random blogs or Social Media accounts. What possible reasons could there be for this decline in our “trust” of the media? This very morning I was – as I usually do – watching my local news. Mostly what I care about it weather and traffic. But I was intrigued when my local Newsreader started to read off the teleprompter a story about the Southwest Airline Pilot who may be in hot water over his cabin announcement, “Let’s Go Brandon!” It wasn’t a story about why the pilot might be in trouble. It was a story about what “Let’s Go Brandon” means. And it was one hundred percent fabricated…

At a recent Television Town Hall, the President of the United States informed us that the vaccine mandates "are working," and that some ninety percent or more are getting the vaccine. That leaves the unvaxxed people who are "just trying to make this a political issue" and who say "I have the freedom to kill you with my COVID. I mean, come on..." The real issue here is that, like most modern American, Joe Biden doesn't comprehend the concept of liberty. There really is no reason to be surprised by that, it's a part of the general malaise that has affected most Americans in the last one hundred and twenty years. There is a reason that the President and those who believe as he does never mention the word "liberty." And there is a reason when the President of the United States talks about "freedom," he speaks in mocking terms. But ask yourself a simple question: In more than half a century in government, what specifically has Joe Biden done to either protect freedom or "to secure the blessings of liberty?"
