  • Whoopi's Vacation

    02/02/2022 Duration: 17min

The news this morning informed me – multiple times – that Whoopi Goldberg will be on vacation for the next two weeks. Two hours into the local morning news program there has not been a single mention of the Russian rejection of the US diplomatic note sent yesterday in replay to Russia’s security demands. The problem with Whoopi Goldberg’s comments that led to her going on vacation is that there virtually zero discussion of WHY she was even talking about the holocaust in the first place. And THAT reason should piss you far more than what Whoopi had to say about it…

  • BML: WKRP in Cincinnati

    01/02/2022 Duration: 35min

Dave is on The Bill Mick Live Show to talk about the history of radio as portrayed in Television. Howard Hessman (Dr Johnny Fever) passed away on Sunday and it reminds us of a time when every wondered if a radio station was really that whacky and bizarre? The answer is: Yes, it was and is! The show WKRP led to other TV shows about radio, including one that featured an odd electrical engineer who believed in street fighting, alien autopsies and… conspiracy theories about everything!

  • WTF: The Reign of Confusion

    31/01/2022 Duration: 56min

After a very confusing week, Rabbi Dave and Friar Rod are back to tell you what they are confused about, including some people nobody has any idea who are trying to censor other people that everybody knows who is. Video games are dangerous and the US Navy has... well... an explanation(?) of an odd and confusing thing that also happened.

  • Smoking a Toad

    27/01/2022 Duration: 12min

TRIGGER WARNING: Dave is borderline unhinged this morning. If you are one of “those people” who pretend to be “offended” by adult language and tautology you’ll probably want to skip this episode. If you would like to help him calm down, buy him a cup of coffee on ko-fi… – Producer Henri Some days I wonder – seriously wonder – why I bother to even get up and look at the news. Look, I get it… I’m closing in on sixty years old and I regularly have to look up shit on the Urban Dictionary because I have zero clue what something means. I don’t watch Tik Tok because 95% of them make no sense to me. At. All. I regularly wear my favorite Rolling Stones T-shirt, and basically every joint in my body makes a loud creaking and popping noise every time that I move. I get that for 99.99999999999999999999999% of the world population I am completely irrelevant. Most people don’t give a flying fornication what I think about anything. and I’m fine with that. But for the life of me, I do not get the whole “attention whore” i

  • BML: Right For the Wrong Reason?

    25/01/2022 Duration: 36min

In October of 1973, the world was still reeling from the Yom Kippur war. Egypt, defeated and embarrassed, had requested that the United States send troops as “peacekeepers” while the Soviet Union was threatening to do the same. Cooler heads would ultimately prevail. At the same time, the nation was still broiling over the Kent State incident, and while US troops had at last been withdrawn from South Vietnam, the underlying cause of the Kent State tragedy was on the mind of Congress. with Watergate rapidly becoming more and more a major issue, some began to worry that an unstable President might commit US Troops to unwise adventures to, in essence, wag the dog. The solution was the 1973 War Powers Resolution. Designed to put firm limits on the ability of the President to commit US forces to combat, there was one (well, several, but one main one) problem with the Act. It required the President to sign it to become law. And there was no way under heaven that Richard Nixon was going to sign that Act…

  • 1984 Triggers

    24/01/2022 Duration: 19min

The University of Northampton in England, has informed the world that it has decided that the George Orwell book, 1984, a dystopian novel of tyrannical dictatorship, censorship and thought control, needs a "Trigger Warning" because, as the school says, "students may find some 'explicit material' offensive and upsetting." The irony of that move seems to have escaped the faculty of the University of Northampton (go Saints!). Meanwhile, more and more of the book seems to be predictive in nature rather than reflective. There is a reason for that. Orwell was not a great visionary genius looking forward into the possibilities of human behavior. He was actually looking back, noticing the pattern of action and thought, and setting it in a future with more modern technology and concepts. Which is why the University putting a Trigger Warning is literally the most 1984 thing that they could have done...

  • THS: AZORIAN

    23/01/2022 Duration: 54min

The countdown to a potential world wide conflagration is still continuing. Meanwhile, Eric Ryle of The Sub Vet and Dave Bowman talk about submarine news and history. A texter to the show wanted to know more about the mysterious story from 1968 of the disappearance of a Soviet Golf II class SSB in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Like most things in the world of submarines, there is much more to the story than meets the eye...

  • Pollyanna

    20/01/2022 Duration: 20min

The whole world seems a bit... well.. crazy right now. from Ukraine, to Iran, to China to North Korea, to the white House, things seems to be falling apart faster than the Dallas Cowboys in the Playoffs. But what if there is a better way to look at things?

  • BML: the Blame Game

    18/01/2022 Duration: 36min

Dave joins Bill Mick on WMMB-AM to talk about the Supreme Court ruling that ended the OSHA Vaccine Mandate. Or maybe it didn't end it. At least they had the decency to follow in the traditional steps of the branches of the US Government and blame somebody else for what they did (or didn't) do...

  • WTF: Waiting for the Tour de France

    16/01/2022 Duration: 59min

The Rabbi and the Friar are back to talk about Cyberwar and the idea that we are already in the opening phases of World War III. In July of 1914, most of Europe showed almost no concern over the exploding crises in Serbia, at least until the our de France was over. Then the proverbial schtuff his the rotating air movement device. Some Americans, far too many of them "Republicans" aren't just concerned about COVID, they are willing to full Stalin on us. Never go full Stalin... California has gone bat s**t crazy, again, and the people of Wal-Mart bring us the sentence of the year (so far...)

  • TSV: It's Dangerous

    13/01/2022 Duration: 01h11min

Eric Ryle of The Sub Vet.com and Dave Bowman get together to talk submarine and just some the numerous dangers faced by the men and women who man the boats. It was in 2005 that USS San Francisco ran into an underwater seamount, causing massive damage and a great deal of heroic work to save the ship (you can read one of the best descriptions HERE). One crew member, MMS(SS) J Ashley perished in the accident, and at least 80% of the crew was injured to some degree. The post accident discussions took place at a time when the internet was still relatively new and free. One of the lead Submarine Blogs of the day, The Stupid Shall Be Punished, more or less led the way with what information was available and much commentary. Most submariners were shaken by the incident, and the blog and discussions gave us all a place to vent. The post Cold War world is heating up again. There are so many danger spots rights now that it's important to understand that very soon, the sailors of the US Submarine service could

  • Alea Lacta Est

    12/01/2022 Duration: 18min

In 49bce, Julius Cæsar stood on the bank of a river in northern Italy and contemplated – at least for a moment – the decision he was about to make. His next act would change the world, pretty much forever. And while there is a great deal of opinion regarding Cæsar, the simple fact is that his action destroyed the greatest experiment in republicanism the world had ever seen. Within a few months, he would both destroy a republic and establish the foundation for the Roman Empire. And despite facing his own insurrection, he ultimately succeeded in his aim. Like then, today we face Rubicon’s to be crossed. And die to be cast…

  • BML: dave does History: Clyburn, Hamilton and History

    11/01/2022 Duration: 35min

Bill Mick and Dave get together to talk History! If you believe that 2020 was "unprecedented" or even unusual, then you know literally nothing of US History. In fact, in terms of post election violence (or even pre-election violence) 2001 isn't even in the Top 5. Now, Congressman James Clyburn (the man who saved Biden's Campaign?) has called for Federalizing Elections, saying that elections are "too important to leave to the States." Is Mr. Clyburn correct? Didn't Alexander Hamilton (Happy Birthday!) essentially say just that in his Federalist 59? Or... has he missed the most important part, thus reinforcing several myths about why things are the way they are? At the same time, is is erasing/ignoring history in order to make his point...?

  • The Real Attack on Democracy

    10/01/2022 Duration: 17min

In the aftermath of the "Memorial to Democracy" last week, one is left to wonder if the meaning of the word "irony" has any impact on those who demand that we remember "democracy" as if it were something that a couple of thousand yaboos managed to kill in a single afternoon. One of the bedrock principles of the so-called "American" democracy (which was NOT a democracy until the definition changed in the early 1900s) is the concept of freedom of speech. In fact, it's right there, enshrined in the US Constitution, guaranteed to be protected. Through our history various iterations of the Supreme Court have not only solidified the idea that freedom of speech is paramount, but it is almost a necessity in order to maintain a "democracy" (using the modern definition). Which is why in the flagellation of the insurrectionists and those who theologically align with them last week, one of the people who most loudly screeches about "protecting our democracy" came up with the genius idea of... throttling freedom of speec

  • WTF: happy Freaking New Years...

    10/01/2022 Duration: 43min

It's 2022. Sorry, but we thought that we were supposed to be dead, so we didn't plan much for this first show of the "Winter of Death!" Dave is feeling morose over the prospects of the new year. It's been a rarity in his long life, but this seems like the perfect year to throw anther World War. Rod has some new equipment and some issues with idols and mannequins, while watching some of the nonsense over the "insurrection: has the boys saying "WTF?"

  • Khnum, Khnum, Khnum...

    07/01/2022 Duration: 17min

Like many people, I more or less just hunkered down yesterday and tried to completely ignore the news. Look, I get it, but in my view, there is nothing left to be said about it all. What you believe about January 6th says more about you than it does about what happened that day. If you love Trump, it was a protest. if you hate Trump, it was an insurrection. You’re both nuts, but please, continue with your ridiculous ideological purity tests to determine whether I am worthy of being allowed to vote for your candidates. Instead, I spent the day studying various things and the lesson that one of them taught me reminded me of one of my favorite Professors mantra about learning things. It was a titanic shift in my understanding of events and, consequently, my understanding leapt forward. Today, I see something that I had “known” my entire life entirely differently. And maybe someday, when people start actually thinking again, January 6th will be relegated to the dump heap of events, where it actually belongs.

  • That's Armageddon!

    05/01/2022 Duration: 13min

This was supposed to be a "return to normal day." But from COVID to Iraq to Iran to Washington, D.C., to Ukraine to Kazakhstan to Germany to North Kitsap, it has been anything but a normal day...
