Synopsis

In 49bce, Julius Cæsar stood on the bank of a river in northern Italy and contemplated – at least for a moment – the decision he was about to make. His next act would change the world, pretty much forever. And while there is a great deal of opinion regarding Cæsar, the simple fact is that his action destroyed the greatest experiment in republicanism the world had ever seen. Within a few months, he would both destroy a republic and establish the foundation for the Roman Empire. And despite facing his own insurrection, he ultimately succeeded in his aim.
