Star Wars: Delusions Of Granular

A few weeks ago saw the release of the second book in the Star Wars Aftermath trilogy. Picking up right where things left off in the first book from last year, main characters Norra, Temmin, Sinjir and Jas are now tracking down Imperial war criminals. Meanwhile the interlude chapter of the first book which involved Han Solo and Chewbacca receiving information that could lead to them freeing Chewbacca's home world, Kashyyyk from slavery. Where the first book was criticized for having too many interludes and not enough main character action, this book looks to correct all that and tell an engaging story with old and new characters. With the news that Grand Admiral Thrawn is going to be in season three of Star Wars Rebels, Steve decided to take another look at the original novels that gave birth to this fan-favorite character. Starting with Heir To The Empire, this trilogy of books brought Star Wars back into the hearts and minds of fandom. Taking place right after the events of Return Of The Jedi, this was the first time we learned what happened to our heroes after the movies ended. Now that these books have been labeled as Legend, Steve takes a granular look at this historic first book in the series. 

Three issues into Marvel's Poe Dameron title and they've already wrapped up the first story arc? Possibly. Either way, Ron is here to talk about the first comic story to take place in the TFA era. Leading to the events that take place in the movie, we meet Poe and his Black Squadron as they set out on their adventure to find Lor San Tekka and the map to find Luke Skywalker. The race was on but Steve finished Star Wars Aftermath: Life Debt before Ron could so he gets to review it first for Delusions of Granular. Star Wars Celebration 2016 just ended. Ron and Steve were there (or at least streaming it live on YouTube) to report on all the news and events that happened. From the Rogue One panel to the official announcement of Alden Ehrenreich as the new Han Solo, we tried to cover everything! And although there were some awkward moments throughout the weekend, we think the really big news came on Saturday when it was revealed through the trailer for season three of Star Wars Rebels that fan favorite, Grand Admiral Thrawn is being pulled back into official canon. This week Steve gets really granular with the story arcs for Knights of the Old Republic: Days of Fear, Nights of Anger, Daze of Hate, and Knights of Suffering. Nearly 4,000 years before the Death Star, fugitive Padawan Zayne Carrick's quest to clear his name runs afoul of forces beyond his control-forces he and his friends have helped to unleash! Ron realizes he never watched all of the original Clone Wars series from 2003 by Genndy Tartakovsky and that we never talked about it on the show. Quickly rectifying both of those situations, we get granular with the first Clone Wars (and Star Wars) TV series. Using traditional drawn animation as opposed to the CG animation that would be used later, Clone Wars was groundbreaking for the saga. The show used a style of animation that was similar to Tartakovsky's earlier show, Samurai Jack. The show also started with episodes that were 3-5 minutes long but by popular demand, grew in length to 15-20 minutes. As time has moved on, is this show still canon? Ron finally gets to the episode he's been wanting to do since the start of the podcast: the mystery of Marcia Lucas. As the award-winning editor of the first three Star Wars films, Marcia Lucas played an important role in how those movies were made. Being married to George Lucas gave her the opportunity to critique his work in places no one else did. She also encouraged him to keep many of the beloved scenes in the movie. But in 1983 Marcia and George Lucas got divorced. From that point on the direction of Star Wars and George Lucas's career changed forever. But what happened to Marcia Lucas. Steve takes a granular look at the second arc in the Dark Horse comic, Star Wars Rebellion titled The Ahakista Gambit. Apparently this story is about a band of rogue rebels who band together and eventually encounter Darth Vader. Wait, did Steve just review Rogue One? Last week's issue of Entertainment Weekly dropped some interesting tidbits about the upcoming Star Wars film, Rogue One. Among the news we learned that Forest Whitaker is going to be playing Saw Gerrera. Have we heard that name before? Yes, in fact we have. Delusions of Granular takes a look at the story arc from season five of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in which Saw and his sister lead a band of Rebels against the evil Separatists and their droid army. Yes, Saw Gerrera's origins come from the Prequel era! But does this character have other origins as well? Join us as we get granular with this new but familiar character to the Star Wars universe!

Between each story arc of Marvel's Star Wars comic, we get an entry from Obi-Wan's journals as he watches over a young Luke Skywalker. This time around Steve takes a look at this one-off book as Obi-Wan encounters a familiar (to this series) black Wookie. But can he handle this foe? Find out as we get granular with Star Wars #20!

Ron had every intention of releasing a new episode of Delusions of Granular where he gets granular with a new granular topic but then a funny thing happened: he ran into George Lucas on the streets of Chicago. What takes place is weird and wonderful. Ron tells his story of this chance meeting and ponders the existence of George Lucas after the sale of Star Wars to Disney. 

Following the story of Janek "Tank" Sunber, Luke's childhood friend from Tatooine, Star Wars: Rebellion is a legends comic by Dark Horse that asks the question, what if one of Luke's friends is a member of the Imperial Army? Join Steve as he reviews the first arc of this series from 2007 and let's you know if this is something worth your time to check out.

A few weeks ago Star Wars got another installment in the "new canon" with the release of the highly anticipated novel Star Wars: Bloodline. This is the book where we find out what happened six years before The Force Awakens. Primarily about Leia, this book gets into the political climate of the New Republic. Split into two parties, the Populists and the Centrists, the New Republic is on rocky ground. Meanwhile the First Order is secretly gaining power. But the big selling point for this novel is the story about how Leia's secret about Darth Vader being her father is announced to the galaxy. The latest miniseries to wrap up from Marvel is Obi-Wan & Anakin. The first new canon material to take place in the Prequels era, find out from Steve if this series is worth your time or not. Set between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan and a slightly older Anakin embark on a new adventure. But are there hints to Anakin's turn to the dark side? 

The toys have always been a big part of the Star Wars universe. If you were a Star Wars fan who grew up in the 1980's there was one toy company that you were excited about seeing their logo: Kenner. Kenner owned the Star Wars brand and produced some of the best Star Wars toys ever made. Toys that are still coveted by collectors all over the world. Ron takes a look at the recent documentary titled Plastic Galaxy. This film tells the story of how the Star Wars toys became such a phenomenon and took a small toy company and turned it into one of the largest.
