    16/04/2018 Duration: 01h04min

After a technical hitch with the upload, and better late than never, episode 41 is here! This week we discuss Pagani claiming they're ending Huayra production with the L'Ultimo. We then talk about official prificing for the Ford Ranger Ratpor being released for the Australian market, and we were a bit off with our guestimation of $85,000 the other week. This then births a conversation about other high-end utes, and a passionate debate about the new Mercedes X-Class.Then we talk about BMW Australia leaking the M2 Competition on their own website, which looks like it's going to be one hell of a car.... And we go back to arguing about utes again.Just before we kick into 'Motorcycle Minute'', Joseph gives Matt the budget for 'Finders Fee', and the budget this week is $50,000. This week on Motorcycle Minute, Joel discusses how the German government is funding BMW (and other companties)

We've made it to the big 4-0! This week, we discuss the news, we play 'Finders Fee', and Joel (rent-a-crowd) has his motorcycle minute (which turns into more than a minute), a new challenge has been put forward by Matt, and of course our usual banter.Firstly, Mitch gives Joseph his budget for the 3 cars. This week, the budget is $85,000.Then, Mitch kicks off the news segment by talking about the pricing for the Ford Ranger Raptor being released for the Thai market, and price guestimations being made for the Australian market. Then we discuss how Holden is stuck in the proverbial creek without a paddle, dropping 18.1% in February. We then briefly talk about the rumours surrounding the next generation GT86/BRZ which might, maybe, get a 2.4L engine. And Pagani open up a dealership in Melbourne, selling 100 right hand drive Huayra Roadsters, whith no other models confirmed. Then Joseph brings up some news about the Alfa-Romeo Guilia Coupe.

We are back for episode 39 of Gears and Beers. This week, we talk our usual shit, children's movies, cars, and beer.Mitch starts with wanting to discuss autonomous vehicles, and how the laws have a bit to catch up with the technology. This then transitions into talking about children's animated movies.Matt then gives Mitch a budget for the new segment 'Finder's Fee'. The budget this week is $7,500, and while Mitch finds some cars, we talk about the new Rav 4, Corolla, and Forester announced at New York Motor Show. This week we actualkly talk about beer. This week Joseph and Mitch drink a Spanish beer called 'Estrella', which is surprisingly decent for the cheap price you can get them for. Joseph gives it 7 VL Commo One-Wheel-Peel's out of 10.Matt then brings up news about XXXX aka Milton Mangoes potentially shifting operations to Northern New South Wales, which sparks a lively discussion about beer... And land values...Matt then gives a qui

  • Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am

    25/03/2018 Duration: 54min

This is an exciting episode for Gears and Beers, as we have upgraded our audio quality considerably. We have gone from a single Rode NT-USB with us 4 huddled around it, to a Rode Procaster each, connected to a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 audio interface, recorded with Garageband. We're still tweaking the setup, but we think it is a considerable improvement over what we were doing previously. For a change, our first discussion this week is about beer, specifically Corona and why you must put a lime in your Corona. We then discuss MotorTrend's decision to effectively leave YouTube, in favour of their MotorTrend On Demand subscription service. We're disappointed by their decision, but we're not surprised by this move at all as the writing was on the wall as soon as they launched their On Demand service a few years back. We than tangent into discussing other large automotive YouTube channels and podcasts, and the business of running a large automotive channel. We then tran

On this week's episode of Gears and Beers, we play Matt's 'What about this Car?', Joel's 'Motorcycle Minute' returns, Joseph's brings back his 'Automotive Word Association', and of course our usual eloquent bullshittery and tangents. This week's 'What about this Car' is the Toyota MR2 Spyder, which while we all agree it is not the MR2 you want, it is still a decent little car if you for some reason don't want a Mazda MX5.Next, we play Joseph's game 'Automotive Word Association'. The words this week are;TurbosCommodoreHyundai GetzMR2... Corolla... CelicaTailgatingWind-up WindowsGran TurismoWe then talk about and reminisce about Gran Turismo and other racing games from our childhood for the next little while. Then it's Joel's segment 'Motorcycle Minute' in which he talks about the Suzuki Hayabusa and what is rumoured for the next gener

  • Whippin' Round in a Pink Corvette

    11/03/2018 Duration: 49min

We're back for episode 36!It was Geneva International Motor Show this week, so we had much news to talk about, plus many arguments and tangents are to be found in this episode.Mitch has finally found an electric car that he likes, and the other guys hate it; the Honda Urban EV.We then talk about the Bugatti Chiron Sport, which eventuates into a debate as to what should be considered a 'supercar' and what should be considered a 'sports car'.Performax, a right hand drive conversion company, will be bringing the Ford F-250 Tuscany Black Ops to Australia. The price for which is $199,000 AUD.Then it's Joel's Motorcycle Minute, where he is given 1 minute to talk about his favourite topic; motorcycles. We then play 'What about this car', and this week it's the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle, which Matt concedes that he cannot put a positive spin on.Mitch then talks about Peugeot, their acquisition of Opel from General Motors, and a

  • I've got the PHEV...

    04/03/2018 Duration: 47min

After week off, we are back and with a fancy new intro and outro thanks to Robert Lee, a voice many of you I'm sure will instantly recognise.Matt's away, so this week it's just Mitch, Joseph and Joel. First two news topics this week are about Hyundai releasing pricing for the upcoming i30N, and their genuine pursuit to crack into performance cars and motorsport by acquiring the head of BMW's M and Individual divisions, Thomas Schemera. We think if you're going for a Volkswagen GTi, you should seriously consider the i30N. In fact, it wins our vote.We then discuss the new McLaren Senna, and the $530,000 optional Carbon Themed option design my McLaren Special Operations. We then discuss Holden's concession that their cars have also fallen victim to the Takata airbag recall fiasco. We than do Joseph's interpretation of 'What about this car' and we come across an absolute doozy of a car; a 2007 Mitsubishi Colt Turbo RZ convertible.Joseph then ta

  • Tingle in the Pringle

    18/02/2018 Duration: 53min

Better late than never, here's episode 33. It's been a bit of a crazy week for the Gears and Beers crew... And not in the best way. I'm sure we'll discuss the events in episode 34. This week is tangent city, more so than usual, believe it or not.First topic of the blocks is Nissan's facelift of the aging 370Z... Keeping in mind the underpinnings of this car (350z) is about 15 years old.Joel, AKA Rent-A-Crowd, asks the panel what we think is the best car name ever.Toyota has teased car lovers world wide with a monochrome image of the rear of a sports coupe, with the tagline 'The legend returns'... Clearly, they're talking about the Supra (FT1)... Or, at least, a concept of it AGAIN.Joseph then brings up the launch of the new Ford Ranger Raptor, which we all think looks awesome, and we think the EcoBoost engine is awesome too.We then discuss the pricing and spec release of the facelift update to the Mustang.Like

It's episode 32, and we actually talk about beer! This week we're drinking 'Urban Crusader', which is claimed to be an Australian "style" Double-Hopped Lager, however upon further inspection, it might actually be triple-hopped... Further investigation is needed.First actual news topic for the week is about Porsche rumoured to be putting a turbocharger on the next 911 GT3, with 410kw over the 368kw from the current 991.2 GT3.We then discuss the new Alpine that Top Gear hosts Chris Harris and Eddie Jordan were driving in Monte Carlo caught fire, which gets Joseph talking about a Z31 his grandfather was driving that also caught fire. For once, Matt actually has a topic to discuss, which is asking us what we'd choose; a 2016 Toyota RAV4, or a 2018 Toyota Corolla, which isn't actually as obvious to answer as it appears to be on the surface. We then bring back a fan favourite, 'What about this Car'? And this week there's 2, the Infinity G37, and

  • Shrivel Factor is Real

    28/01/2018 Duration: 58min

It's a bit of a slow news week this week, but we persevere and end up with a great episode in the progress.Joel, AKA 'Rent-A-Crowd', is back and brings up a brief topic about a gentleman who bought a car from Pagani without receiving vehicle papers making it impossible to register his new Pagani.Joseph talks about Ford Australia following Ford USA and Ford UK in recalling the Focus RS due to the infamous head gasket issue plaguing the car.Matt brings back the much loved topic 'What about this car?', and the car this week is a special one, which gets Joseph talking about the rental 2017 Prado he had the pleasure to drive recently. We then talk about Mitsubishi, and how they haven't actually made a new car in almost a decade, however Matt likes them a lot... But it turns out Mitch and Matt are wrong, and Mitsubishi is actually selling like crazy. Then we discuss which 4x4 utes we like, which turns into discussing what is the next Real

We've made it to episode 30! It's hard to believe that we haven't killed each other by now, but here we are.We start off by talking about Hyundai's new Veloster Turbo and Veloser N, which were both announced at the Detroit Motor Show. Then, Joseph and Matt have an argument about turbocharging versus supercharging.Mitch brings up Sergio Marchionne's comments on the FCA group not going electric, or autonomous, any time soon.Joseph brings up the Toyota GR Super Sport concept car from Tokyo Auto Salon, and Mercedes update to the G-Wagen.Matt's one contribution this week is asking if we would choose a Land Rover Defender or a Mercedes AMG G-Wagen... Which turns into a bit of an argument. We then end on the Top Gear Cool Wall magnets. Like us on Facebook! / Follow us on

  • Poundage Difference (bad audio quality)

    15/12/2017 Duration: 01h06min

As we said in the in the introduction to this episode, the audio quality of this episode leaves a bit to be desired. However, the actual content is quality. We start this week's episode with a 5 minute argument about unequal length headers versus equal length headers on Subaru's.We then discuss the new McLaren Senna, which causes mixed opinions from us, and the Lamborghini Urus makes us all angry for many reasons.Joseph brings up HSV and the future of the performance arm of Holden, or as Joseph calls it the "Bogan M Division", which then tangets onto the Chevy Camaro coming to Australia (which turns into an argument between Matt and Joseph).Joseph then bursts a blood vessel raging about Wheels and Motor Magazine and their blantant bias towards Holden when they compare any vehicle with a Commodore. We then do the much loved Top Gear Cool Wall magnets. If you made it to the end, we hope you enjoyed the episode despite the poor audio quality.

  • Send Noods!

    03/12/2017 Duration: 01h01min

Due to a technical error, this weeks episode is a little late...We have a special guest on this episode, his name is Joel. Joel was previously the Rent-A-Crowd, but has ascended to be a panel guest… And while he has never owned a car, he has drunk many a beer, so he’s at least 50% qualified to be on our pokey lil podcast. We crack into it with an argument about motorbikes, Joel’s area of expertise… Afterwhich we get on topic and talk about cars, specifically the LA Motor Show.We start talking about Mazda’s commitment to keeping cars about the driver, rather just an autonomous tool to get from A to B. We then transition into a discussion about the MX5, the 86, and the Aussie exclusive 70 Series Toyota Landcruiser.Mitch introduces a new segment called ‘Watt the Fuck?’, the first topic is Elon Musk sending his Tesla Roadster to Mars orbit, which is bloody awesome.Matt asks the panel “what is the most ‘Basic Bitch’ car?“, which turns out to be t

Matt then sets the record straight on his position on Tesla, and electric vehicles after Joseph insinuated the other week on the podcast that Matt is anti-electric. We then talk about some as-yet unreported BREAKING NEWS from Lamborghini (literally nobody else has reported this). Joseph then brings up the topic (argument) of 'BUILT vs BOUGHT', which quickly dissolves into chaos and Matt ends up on the floor laughing. Finally, with the return of Matt, brings the return of 'The Cool Wall' Top Gear Australia fridge magnet game, which we introduced a month ago, but didn't feel quite right to do without Matt being here.Like us on

  • This is Star Wars

    19/11/2017 Duration: 55min

It's still just Mitch and Joseph again this week, I honestly don't know if we'll recognise Matt when - if - he returns! This week, we discuss the newly announced Tesla Roadster which has a claimed 10,000nm of torque! Absolutely ludicrous! Joseph brings up the amazing new Singer / Williams Porsche 964 911, then we have an argument over which car make is better; Porsche or Ferrari. We then discuss the unbelievable prices on the BMW M2 Pure's options list. Then we let the cat out of the bag and talk about the car we've had in for review, the MG MG3 courtesy of Brisbane MG. We really like the MG3 and spend a good amount of time discussing it, we've also got a video review and a written review due to be out by the time the next podcast episode goes live.Brisbane MG; www.brisbanemg.com.auLike us on

    12/11/2017 Duration: 41min

Matt's still away, so it's just Mitch and Joseph again. It's bit of a slow news week this week, because SEMA was last week and all the interesting stuff has already been released. The first topic we discussed is 'The American' (Mike Skinner) being killed off for Season 2 of The Grand Tour, which will please some people and will probably disappoint some as well. We then talk about the suspension on Mitch's 86 failing after 60,000k's, and how Mitch and Joseph spent a Sunday afternoon replacing both rear struts. Joseph introduces a new topic called 'Just No', in which he talks about a crappy billboard advertisement and a particularly ugly car for sale in a car dealership. We also tanget on Hyundai Excel's for quite some time, but can you blame us? They're brilliant little cars. Many tangents are to be found in this episode... So many tangents. Like us on
