Drummer and multi-instrumentalist Han Bennink was born in Zaandam near Amsterdam in 1942. With fellow Dutch pioneers, pianist Misha Mengelberg and saxophonist Willem Breuker, he founded the musicians collective Instant Composers Pool in 1967.     A special edition of the Spanish Jazz radio show Club de Jazz where we conducted a lengthy interview with Fred Hersch. Born in 1955 he is one of the great piano masters. Hersch is part of the New York scene since he arrived there in the late 1970s where he played with such musicians as Joe Henderson, Stan Getz, Sam Jones and Art Farmer and recorded his debut album Horizons in 1985 along with Marc Johnson and Joey Baron. A respected teacher of musicians like Brad Mehldau, Ethan Iverson and Jason Moran and really sensitive and creative musician, Hersch spent several weeks unconscious in the hospital due to AIDS-related complications in 2008. We had our conversation in the backstage of the 'Fernán Gómez' theater in Madrid a few minutes before his trio concert along with John Hébert and Eric McPherson. Since 2007 Digital Primitives have recorded three CDs in Hopscotch Records, a record label owned by Assif Tsahar. On stage, Assif plays tenor saxophone and mbira, Chad Taylor plays drums and mbira and Cooper-Moore sings and plays fretless banjo, didley-bow and tin whistle. In Matanë Malit they bring new life to old Albanian folk songs or play music for poetry by Ismail Kadare and Elina´s mother, Bessa Myftiu. The legendary trumpet player Enrico Rava was his mentor and one of his most frequent collaborators. Bollani has recorded with Chick Corea, Paul Motian, NDR Big Band or with his danish trio (Jesper Bodilsen and Morten Lund) with whom he was going to play when we recorded our interview in the backstage of the Vitoria Jazz Festival. Peter Evans is one of the most extremely innovative trumpet players as well as the creative leader of groups and projects such as Zebulon Trio or the Peter Evans Quintet (with whom he recorded his astonishing "Ghosts" in 2011). Jon Irabagon, winner of the 2008 Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition, has recorded with such artists as diverse as Barry Altschul, Dave Liebman, Wynton Marsalis or Mary Halvorson, among others. They are both part of Mostly Other People Do The Killing, a jazz quartet also featuring 'Moppa' Elliott (bass) and Kevin Shea (drums). Guitarist Terrie Ex was one of the founders of the Dutch band The Ex. The band was born out of the punk explosion in 1979. Andy Moor joined them in 1990. Drummer Paal Nilssen-Love and saxophonist Ken Vandermark had played together as a duo and with several bands such as the Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet. They are two of the most significant players of the improvised music scene. In 2006 they all played together for the first time on stage as a quartet and they named that "collision" Lean Left.
