  • 75 | Get To Know Dylan | Feat. Dylan Werner

    15/05/2019 Duration: 34min

Tribe, If you haven't found Dylan, he's a "100% of time traveling" yoga teacher. Joining this weeks episode, he shares with us a look into how he became the traveling teacher. When job loss hit him, he took his part-time yoga teaching with him to Los Angeles. With a home base following, to Youtube videos and finding the opportunity to continue his journey, traveling and teaching combined in one life. We talk about how he stopped looking into the future, trying to find a place that yoga would lead him, but rather polishing the mirror of the experience of it. How letting go of looking to prove himself to others but realizing he was trying to prove it to himself. Dylan shares with us books he's reading, what he's geek-ing out over, and expands on what he's been teaching.Find more about Dylan:Dylan WernerInstagramMusic: 92elm - All For MeFriend of the Week: OhmmeCheck out their functional and stylish yoga gear. • 72 | Yoga History Debunked | Feat. Colin Hall

    24/04/2019 Duration: 31min

Hey tribe, For this week's session, we have the hugely interesting Colin Hall. Colin is a super smart guy who really knows his stuff about yoga philosophy. Join us as we do a deep dive into philosophy, history and the current state of yoga. This session was great for me as I personally struggled with yoga philosophy when I first began as the concepts seemed so large and overwhelming so it's amazing to talk to someone like Colin who can break it down and present it in an accessible way. Hope you guys enjoy nerding out with us. Learn more about Colin:www.colinhallyoga.comInstagramMUSIC: Process by 92elmSUPPORT THE SHOW: If you find this podcast valuable you can support it directly by visiting https://donorbox.org/support-yogi-misfit-sessions-podcastFRIEND OF THE SHOW: Brett Larkin’s Online Teacher Training: Go to http://brettlarkin.com/danni to download the course brochure, and use promo code ‘danni’ when you sign up to get $100 off & my Flight School videos.WRITE A R

  • 71 | The Art of Chanting | feat. Janet Stone

    17/04/2019 Duration: 36min

I'm honored to have Janet Stone, AKA Mama Stone, on the show this week. She's the one who helped to demystify chanting when before I used to be afraid of it and make fun of it. We sit down and chat about how motherhood and raising her daughters have influenced her yoga practice and her teaching, as well as how chanting is a gateway to opening within. We also talk about bhakti, the yoga of devotion, and how it calls for all of us to acknowledge all of our emotions, instead of suppressing them.Chanting in Sanskrit has a special vibrational quality with none of its previous associations you might have attached. Despite chanting to various deities, or calling forth for a certain energy, it is an invocation to draw inward and start over again, and again, and again--and it doesn't matter if you are a singer or not. Next time you chant, see the emotional and physical changes that may arise. Tune in, and let's sing together!Learn more about Janet:www.janetstoneyoga.comInstagramMUSIC: Process by 92elmSUPPORT THE

  • 69 | Being Spiritually Fly | Feat. Faith Hunter

    03/04/2019 Duration: 27min

Yogis, meet the incredibly kind and amazing Faith Hunter. I credit her with really helping me to make the jump into teaching yoga with her encouragement. For this session, we talk about dealing with her brother's battle with HIV and the huge role yoga had in her life with questioning her belief in spirituality, and what it's like to lose someone to this virus. Committing to a practice both on a physical and spiritual level, Faith was able to re-establish her connection to God, and how time to yourself is a personal haven. We also talk about what it means to be "spiritually fly," and how being spiritually fly can show up in someone's life. Meditation is also a huge component of this practice--Faith gives her best advice to starting a meditation practice and maintaining one, letting it feel like drinking water instead of a chore. To complement daily meditation, Faith created the Shades of Soul Meditation Journal inspired by her cousin and infused with her original poems to promote healing, connection, and elevat

  • 68 | Music & Yoga: A spiritual Connection | Feat. Cristi Christensen

    27/03/2019 Duration: 28min

My guest for this session is fellow house music lover Cristi Christensen. I knew I'd vibe with her immediately because we both value music as a connection conduit to ourselves, others, and our students. She hosts this event called Deep Exhale in LA in partnership with house DJ Marques Wyatt which combines music and fluid movement as an emotional and physical release for the body, as well as a safe space to just be. We discuss how dance is a spiritual experience and how it's awesome somatic therapy that can take the place of other vices we are prone to turn to.Learn more about Christi:Website URLwww.cristichristensen.com Instagram https://www.instagram.com/cristi_christensen/Facebook https://www.facebook.com/cristi.christensen.1 MUSIC: Process by 92elmFRIEND OF THE SHOW:Liforme: Check out their eco-friendly, non-slip Yoga mats that have been produced to provide you the best foundation for your Yoga practice. • BC:03 | Book Club | The Alchemist

    20/03/2019 Duration: 11min

Hey yogis! By now, we've finished reading book #3 of the Yogi Misfit Book Club, The Alchemist. If you haven't yet finished it--no worries! Keep on keepin' on but there are spoilers ahead! This session, I talk about the story of the Alchemist. If metaphorical stories or self-help books are not your jam, this book will not be for you. The Alchemist is a novel by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. Originally written in Portuguese, has become an international bestseller and has been translated into over 65 languages. As an allegorical story, The Alchemist follows a young Andalusian shepherd named Santiago in his journey to the pyramids of Egypt, after having a recurring dream of finding a treasure there. Some things that stood out to me were following your dreams with a sense of responsibility and how love should always be supportive. The biggest thing that really struck me was also about being in the present and in the moment, going through the process that will get you towards your end goal. What were some things that

Yoga gave its support to Kris after experiencing frustration with the Veteran Affairs health care system. Manifesting as a physical practice initially, yoga showed its spiritual side that encouraged him to become a teacher when he didn't want to be. Being vulnerable during class cracked something open within that altered Kris' life as he knew it.&

  • Yogi Misfit Sessions: S66 Marshawn Feltus

    27/02/2019 Duration: 29min

This session is a powerful one and I'm extremely honored to have Marshawn Feltus as my guest this week. Just before his 18th birthday, an altercation he recalls as “senseless street violence” escalated into a fatal shooting and landed him a 38-year prison sentence. During his incarceration, he took his first yoga class that forever altered his life then took the seat of the teacher to lead over 800 men in Ashtanga. After serving almost 19 years, Marshawn opened up ACT Yoga, the first studio in the underserved Chicago-Austin area. ACT stands for "Awareness, Change, and Triumph."We sit down and talk about the mental benefits of yoga, and why he finds this practice to be so valuable. Being in an underserved community, he shares his challenges with de-mystifying yoga ("I thought yoga was for skinny white women, like I thought basketball and football were for the brothers."), and how he tries to make this practice sustainable and attainable more than a one-time experience on the mat.Learn more about Marshawn:Yoga S

  • Yogi Misfit Sessions: S65 Rocky Heron

    20/02/2019 Duration: 43min

Welcome to the Girlfriend Gab Podcast with Danni + Rocky!Just kidding. But wouldn't that be super fun? Anyway, on with the show...Rocky Heron is a really good friend, mentor, and a huge inspiration to me--I credit him for giving me the final push into becoming a yoga teacher. As a teacher for the Mazé Method and having gone through trainings with him, Rocky is a huge wealth of knowledge of not only the body and how it moves, but teaching the yoga asanas and thinking critically about teaching. We also talk about what yoga is to different people--regular yoga vs. irregular yoga, if you will. We all have different frameworks, depending on what your lineage or training background might be, but it's all yoga. Keeping a line of inquiry in your own practice is also crucial; it's one of the best ways to discover your body and to encourage growth within your practice and teaching. What's working? How can you approach it differently?I hope you enjoy listening in to this session and want to know if you have any takeaways

  • Yogi Misfit Sessions: S64 Lauren Zoeller

    13/02/2019 Duration: 29min

For Session 64 I was joined by the female version of me – Lauren Zoeller. She is a true powerhouse who does all the things. She’s a yoga teacher, a coach and a podcaster. We talk about pouring from an empty cup. This is something I’ve struggled with the past year where I felt like I kept on giving until I almost burnt myself out. Lauren gives great advice on how we can only care for others by caring for ourselves first, otherwise, we will just burn ourselves out and end up running on empty.I loved her emphasis on getting a morning routine of self-care that is specific and works for you. It’s something I’ve put a lot of effort into and starting the day right with a bit of self-love can make a huge difference to not only you but those around you.Learn more about Lauren:Lauren’s website See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Yogi Misfit Sessions: BC2 The Four Agreements

    06/02/2019 Duration: 32min

Hey yogis!By now, we've finished reading book #2 of the Yogi Misfit Book Club, The Four Agreements by Don Ruiz. If you haven't yet finished it--no worries! Keep on keepin' on but there are spoilers ahead! This session, I've got a few Yogi Misfits on the show. For some of them, it was the first time reading this book, and for a few, the second or third time. We talk about the takeaways from both perspectives. Something that really stood out to me from this book is how you cannot make assumptions, especially where someone is coming from; you don't necessarily know their life experiences and background that shapes their thought process.Above all, Ruiz lists doing your best. I see this all the time in the classroom--someone gunning to win 1st place at yoga. We also talk about how this applies in our daily lives. Finally, spiritual warriors. What does this mean to you? How does this show up in your daily life? They share their interpretations on this. What were some things that stood out to you? Let me know in the Yo

  • Yogi Misfit Sessions: S63 Margo Lightburn

    23/01/2019 Duration: 38min

This session is for both yoga students and yoga teachers alike. On session 63, I chat with Margo Lightburn, a teacher who's been teaching and practicing for 16+ years. We talk about sustainability of a yoga teacher because yeah, it looks like all we do is walk around and say things to students, but there's so much more to it than that. Intelligent sequencing, getting classes to be well-attended, ensuring that we maintain a solid income yet avoiding burnout...these are all different plates that we as teachers spin at any one time. How can all of this be sustainable for any one teacher? On top of that, especially in areas where yoga offerings and yoga teachers are abundant, how can someone stand out as unique instead of being hyper-competitive against each other? We get honest and real, so get ready. Also, we apologise about the audio quality of the interview. We decided to release the episode as we just loved the rawness of the conversation. Thank you for bearing with us.Learn more about Margo:Margo's websiteIn
