Podtoid: Destructoid's Video Game Podcast

This episode includes a lot of discussion about games and stuff, but in reality it's mainly about Brad Nicholson's knowledge of Robocop (and, ironically, his complete lack of knowledge regarding Buckaroo Banzai). Also, the Big Looming Changes to Podtoid are announced a few minutes in.

I'd be lying if I said this week's Podtoid wasn't a little on the calm side, but our two loudest cast members are missing, and Leray and I were tired from our respective trips back from GDC. Such is life. Either way, the Podtoid crew discussed Brenda Brathwaite's Train, Portal 2, and our least favorite videogame bosses.

AARREN, Anthony, and Brad won't be joining us for this episode thanks to GDC so we told you you were getting a listener's question episode. Well too bad, you are just going to have to deal with a real show, complete with stories and news items and sports! Instead of Jim holding the helm, Samit is in control. Can he successfully run two Podtoids in a row without a derailment? Stick with us to find out about the real, mystery identity of our guest co-host, Samit failing at #quickhits, Jim playing with his Wii, Topher's time idea, dogsuit, and much more. Oh, and there might be a listener question or two at the end.

We restrained ourselves from completely spoiling Heavy Rain's story in Monday's episode of Podtoid so that we could spoil the night away in a special Extra Gaiden Alpha episode of Podtoid. This is that episode. In it, we discuss our feelings toward the Heavy Rain's story and how it handles the player's agency within that story. Jim also does a Kevin Spacey impression. Additionally, there's a bit at the very end where right before signing off, Samit says, "well, it's a quarter to midnight." Adam cut the recording there, but we went on to decide that "It's a Quarter To Midnight" was the name of Samit's Nickelback cover band, and that the next time he's at an E3 party he has to do a karaoke version of "Hero."

This week's episode is a spoiler-free discussion of Heavy Rain, bookended by some random news and commentary stuff. Rey Guttierez also shows up at the beginning to pimp out Dtoid video stuff.

This frigging thing won't upload correctly. The episode is about zebras and "the only thing I know" and Jesse Schell, but you'll never know about that if libsyn won't get its ass in gear. Maybe it woiuldn't upload properly because there wasn't enough text in the previous version of this post. Maybe I need more text. Text. Text. Text. Bonk bonk bonk bork.

About half of this two hour podcast is our "games of the week" segment. I'm perfectly fine with that, I think. The other half is about Peter Molyneux, BioShock 2 and perhaps most interestingly, our favorite open world games. Hope you dig it.

This week's episode has a pretty long Games of the Week segment (mainly because we spend a healthy portion of it talking about artgames), so be ready for that. After the first half of the show, however, the regular Podtoid crew yaks about Sonic 4, EA's 2011 lineup, and some other stuff I can't remember at the moment.

There's some spoilery Mass Effect 2 talk in this week's Podtoid, but you can avoid it pretty easily: it starts at about the 45 minute mark and ends at 1:05:30. In it, we discuss the final mission of the game. Otherwise, pretty typical podcast; really long games of the week segment, some slightly games-unrelated discussion of the iPad, and a few listener questions at the end. Hope you like it, don't really mind if you don't.

I really have to apologize -- this is one of the most insane, fast-paced, entertaining episodes I can remember, but the audio is awful. Adam Dork picked a hell of a week to go to Japan.But anyway: the first half of the episode is pretty standard. After the break, Nicholson starts hosting and everything changes forever.
