S16 - Hadrat Mugheerah ibn Shu'uba (ra) - A brief biography on the great uncle of Mugheera رضي الله عنه: Urwah Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه.
30/05/2025 Duration: 21minAl-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S16) A brief biography on the great uncle of Mugheera رضي الله عنه: Urwah Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه. Urwah رضي الله عنه was related to the Quraysh through his mother, through the lineage of Abd Manaf. He رضي الله عنه was related to the Thaqeef through his father. Urwah رضي الله عنه was also related to the Quraysh through marriage ties: He married Abu Sufyan’s daughter, Maymoonah رضي الله عنهم - thus making him the son in law of Abu Sufyan and brother in law of Muawiya رضي الله عنهم. Urwah رضي الله عنه had a son named Da’ood رضي الله عنه, who went to become a great scholar and politician. Our beloved Messenger ﷺ said: “I saw Musa (a.s) and he resembled men from the Shanu'ah tribe. I saw Eesa (a.s) and he resembled Urwah Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه. I saw Ibraaheem (a.s), the person he resembled the most was your companion [i.e The Messenger ﷺ himself]”.

S15 - Hadrat Mugheerah ibn Shu'uba (ra) - The martyr of Surah Yaseen
30/05/2025 Duration: 33minAl-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S15) The martyr of Surah Yaseen: 3 messengers were sent to the city of Antioch, located in modern day southwest Turkey. The 3 messengers were either companions رضي الله عنهم of Eesa (a.s), or they were prophets (a.s) themselves. The king of Antioch rejected them all. When they first arrived to the city, they were greeted by Habib Ibn Ismaaeel an-Najar رضي الله عنه, who is the martyr of Surah Yaseen. He believed in our Messenger ﷺ six hundred years before he, ﷺ, arrived! Habib رضي الله عنه embraced Islam through their hands, and when the people rejected the messengers he stood up for them - ultimately leading to his martyrdom. He was trampled until his intestines poured out of him. Thus, this was the martyr that Urwah Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه was likened to. An honour for both blessed souls - separated by 6 centuries yet united by faith and courage.

30/05/2025 Duration: 24minAl-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S14) The Great Uncle, Urwah رضي الله عنه Al-Mugheera’s great uncle, Urwah Ibn Masood (رضي الله عنهم) embraced Islam in 9 A.H, after the siege of Ta’if and before The Messenger ﷺ returned to Madinah. Mugheera رضي الله عنه was overjoyed, and hosted his uncle - Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه also wanted to host him. After a period of time, Urwah رضي الله عنه asked The Messenger ﷺ if he could return back to his people, to which The Messenger ﷺ didn’t approve of: “I fear they will kill you” - The Messenger ﷺ experienced this treatment himself with the Quraysh. Ultimately Urwah رضي الله عنه returned. He was loved by his people, more beloved to them than their own children. When his people discovered his faith, they cursed and beat him. Later on, Urwah had the honour of giving the first Azhan ever in Ta’if! When Urwah رضي الله عنه stood on his balcony, the people had enough and rained arrows on him - he was struck in an artery which lead to his martyrdom. He رضي الله عنه inst

S13 - Hadrat Mugheerah ibn Shu'uba (ra) - Hasan al-Basri (r.h): “70 companions رضي الله عنهم told me that The Messenger ﷺ wiped over leather socks”.
26/05/2025 Duration: 30minal-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S13) al-Mugheera رضي الله عنه narrates: “The Messenger ﷺ performed wudhu and wiped over his Jawrabayn and his sandles”. This Hadith is the only ‘Sahih’ report regarding the wiping over normal socks. However, the shuyukh, such as Imam Ahmed, Sufyan at-Thawri (r.h) have stated this Hadith is infact weak. This is due to 2 narrators in the Hadith chain who used the word ‘Jawrabayn’ I.e normal socks, but the Hadith mentions ‘Huff’ I.e leather socks. Thus it is agreed that one can only wipe over leather socks, and not normal socks as we see today. Hasan al-Basri (r.h): “70 companions رضي الله عنهم told me that The Messenger ﷺ wiped over leather socks”. One cannot wipe over leather socks if a bath is needed - wiping can only be done for wudhu. Mugheera رضي الله عنه elucidated that it is sunnah to wipe over the right foot with the right hand, and wipe over the left foot with the left hand. The Messenger ﷺ recieved leather socks [Huff] as a gift from Negus (r.h).

S12 - Hadrat Mugheerah ibn Shu'uba (ra) - Abu Bakr (ra) leads the Asr prayer.
26/05/2025 Duration: 22minThe Wry Guard, Session 12 Al Mugheerah ibn Shu'uba (ra). Khuff- footwear Abu Bakr (ra) leads the Asr prayer. 'In Arabic "khuff"' refers to shoes that cover the entire foot including the ankle. Since khuff is translated as "leather socks" these days, people then confuse them with today's regular socks and, therefore, consider it permissible to wipe over them as well- (however) it is very clear from studying the Ahaadeeth that khuff were not socks, but rather shoe (i.e footwear used to walk with).
