Surah 28 Qassas- Verses 36-38 Session 13 The infidels claim that the Signs are nothing but sorcery. The good deeds remain with you in the grave and you say, I thought you were the least important. Every breath of your life is precious! Jibreel (A.S) is enraged by Firawn; 50k masons were deployed to build a tower for Pharaoh; Jibreel (A.S) knocks it down. 5 categories are invited to the forgiveness of Allah SWT; to despair of The Forgiveness is an act of Shaitan

Reflections (S6) Sufyaan Ibn Uyayyna (r.h): “The dead are in need of dua more than the living are in need of food”. When we supplicate for the deceased, an Angel (a.s) presents the dua as a gift and the inhabitants of the grave use it to decorate their graves. The Messenger ﷺ would visit the martyrs of Uhud رضي الله عنهم every Saturday. Abu Bakr and Umar رضي الله عنهم did this during their Khilafat too. Time passes very quickly for the righteous in the Barzakh.

Reflections (S5) The Messenger ﷺ: “No one remembers death during hardship except it pleases him. No one remembers death during ease except it restrains him”. Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى loves the one who remembers death. If you pass away on a Friday you are protected from the trials of the grave and receive the reward of 100 martyrs. Onto graves We have two homes, one on the surface of the Earth and one in the belly of the Earth. We famously know Munkir and Nakeer (a.s) are two Angels who will question us in the grave, however a report mentions there is a third Angel called Nakoor (a.s) who is also at our grave.

Reflections (S4) Amr Ibn al-Aas رضي الله عنه said to his son Abdullah رضي الله عنه when the former was dying: “Death is an affliction that defies all description”. The Messenger ﷺ: “Death is equal to 300 blows with a sword”. The pangs of death are a purification for the believer. The Messenger ﷺ said: “Death is an atonement for every Muslim”. Mawlana Rumi (r.h): “Death in reality is our wedding with eternity”. The Messenger ﷺ: “Death is the greatest advisor”.

Reflections (S3) The Messenger ﷺ: “There will be many people who forget Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى and His Messenger ﷺ due to their love for wealth. Hence, on the Day of Judgment they shall enter the fire”. By practicing Zuhud, Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى will love you. By staying away from people’s possessions, people will love you. The Messenger ﷺ: “There is no worship greater than being disinclined from this world”.

Reflections (S2) Surah [87:16-17]: “Yet foolishly you prefer the life of this world, even though the Hereafter is far better and more lasting”. The Messenger ﷺ: “There is no true life except the life of the Hereafter”. The Messenger ﷺ: “Your love of something makes you blind and deaf”. The Messenger ﷺ: “Do not engross your hearts in this world”

Reflections (S1) Surah [80:24]: “Let man look at his food”. Ibn Abaas رضي الله عنهم said this refers to one’s excrement. The Messenger ﷺ: “The world and everything it contains is cursed, except for Zhikr of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى, what He سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى is pleased with, a scholar and a student of knowledge”. The Messenger ﷺ: “Whoever is content with little provision in that world, Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى Will be content with just a few of his good deeds”.

Character (S5) The 3rd sign of the Awliya: They genuinely want the best for others. The Messenger ﷺ: “You can never attain attraction of people through wealth, but you can do it with a cheerful face”. The 4th sign of the Awliya: They are always content. The 5th sign of the Awliya: They hate sinning. The Messenger ﷺ said sins scar the heart. (It thus makes sense why the Awliya have the purest hearts, after the Noble Prophets and Messengers (a.s) and the Companions رضي الله عنهم of course).

Character (S4) The Messenger ﷺ: “Iman is naked, its clothing is piety”. Muazh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه: “and remembrance of the righteous expiates sins”. The Messenger ﷺ said whoever fulfils a brothers need, I (ﷺ) will be standing close to The Scales of Justice on the Day of Judgement and if his sins are heavier, I (ﷺ) will intercede for him. Anas رضي الله عنه: “Become a scholar. If you can’t, then serve them”.

Character (S3) The Messenger ﷺ famously said in a Hadith that a woman is married for 4 reasons: 1). Money, 2). Status, 3). Beauty and 4). Her religiousness, so marry the religious woman. (If we are supposed to be selective of our friends, then what about our life long partner!). A man from the Bani Israel was known as: “the vulgar one”. He saw a pious man from amongst the Bani Israeel and decided to sit with him (I.e keep company with the righteous). Some signs of the Awliya so we know who to keep company with.

Character (S2) The Messenger ﷺ said the believer has 5 enemies: 1). The jealousy of another believer, 2). The enemy of a hypocrite, 3). The struggle of an unbeliever to take his life, 4). The misleadings of shaytan and 5). Your nafs. Ibn al-Jawzi (r.h) said the more forbidden something is, the more our nafs wants it. One of the best ways one can purify himself is to keep the company of the righteous.

Character (S1) The Messenger ﷺ: “and I guarantee a dwelling in the highest part of Paradise for the one who has a good character”. The Messenger ﷺ: “Indeed, Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى elevates the one who behaves humbly”. The Messenger ﷺ in a dua said: “O Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى, I seek refuge in You from the evil of pride”. In Surah [7:146] Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى Says He will turn those people who have pride away from His signs. If they see every sign, they still won’t believe. Pride is the sister of unbelief.

Family (S4) The Messenger ﷺ: “The best of you are those who are the best to their family and I am the best of you all to my family”. Abu Waa’il رضي الله عنه: “One dirham earned through trade is more beloved to me than ten dirhams given to me as a gift”. Onto character The Messenger ﷺ: “Good character brings the best of this world and the Hereafter”. The Messenger ﷺ: “A person may achieve a high rank in Paradise due to his good character even though he is feeble in other acts of worship”. Those sat closest to the Messenger ﷺ on the Day of Judgement will be those with the best character. May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى make us amongst those!

Family (S3) A man رضي الله عنه wanted to get married and the Messenger ﷺ advised him: “Search for a good mother for your children”. Just because both parties are pious doesn’t mean the marriage will be a bed of roses. Ups and downs are normal and even the greatest of creation ﷺ had situations with his blessed wives رضي الله عنهم. The Messenger ﷺ: “You must not speak to her foul language”. One of the rights of the wife is that one cannot speak negatively to her. The Messenger ﷺ said during the Farewell Hajj: “Treat them with excellence, treat them with benevolence”.

Family (S2) Hasan al-Basri (r.h) said none of the inhabitants of the Heavens and the Earth know the reward for the one who brings joy to his dependents, children and family, I.e the reward is unfathomable. The Messenger ﷺ told us to play with and amuse our families. He ﷺ disliked being too strict. They must be given time and love. The Messenger ﷺ: “The fragrance of your children is the fragrance of Paradise”. The Messenger ﷺ: “May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى have Mercy on the father who brought up his son in piety through his own excellent conduct”. Lead by example, if you raise your children correctly you’ll be applicable for this dua.

Family (S1) The Messenger ﷺ: “Serving your parents with kindness is more virtuous than Salah, fasting, sadaqah, Hajj, Umrah and engaging in Jihaad”. The Messenger ﷺ: “The supplication of the father reaches The Hijab”. (I.e The Veil). If you look at your parents with affection, you get the reward of Hajj Mabroor. If you look at your father with love, you get the reward of freeing a slave.

Zhikr of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى (S1) The Messenger ﷺ: “Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى Has not favoured any of His servants with anything greater than the ability to do Zhikr of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى”. The Messenger ﷺ: “Strengthen the bond with your Lord سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى by abundantly remembering Him سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى”. If one recites abundant Salawat, Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى will be pleased with him on the Day of Judgement. You will also be enlisted amongst those who will be given the quickest relief on the Day of Judgement.

Makkah and Madinah: (S1) The Messenger ﷺ did itikaaf and placed his blessed bedding/couch behind the pillar of repentance. This is the same pillar Abu Lubaba رضي الله عنه tied himself to as a means of his repentance. It is located within the garden of Paradise inside Masjid Nabi ﷺ. There is also the pillar of Aisha رضي الله عنها, also known as the pillar of drawing lots. Aisha رضي الله عنها said if the people knew the virtue of this spot they’d flock there and draw lots to offer Salah there. The Messenger ﷺ: “Between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of Paradise”.

Sadaqah (S2) Shrouds do not have pockets. The Messenger ﷺ: “Whoever feeds someone for Allah’s سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى sake, then Paradise is incumbent upon him”. If you think you are sincere, then your sincerity needs sincerity. Onto Makkah and Madinah: The Messenger ﷺ: “Establish Salah, give Zakat, perform Hajj and Umrah and be steadfast, you will then be granted steadfastness”. The Messenger ﷺ said the best of deeds are Hajj and Umrah Mabroor.
