02/05/2012Segment A: Regional Day 2012 and Economic Gardening Fostering the entrepreneurial spirit across our region is one of the key goals of the Hampton Roads Partnership. Its "Economic Gardening Network" strives to stimulate new business formation and further innovation across the region. These initiatives will be the highlight of this year's Regional Day conference. In our first-half of the program, HearSay host Cathy Lewis will talk with guests about how connecting entrepreneurs with new funding sources is changing the economic landscape of Hampton Roads. Segment B: The Battle of Williamsburg The echo of musket fire and the scent of gunpowder will be heavy in the air this weekend in Colonial Williamsburg. The historic area will be transformed into a war-ravaged battleground to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Williamsburg, a hard fought Civil War engagement. We'll talk about the significance of this battle with historian and author Carson Hudson.

01/05/2012Segment A: Cancer Rehabilitation Cancer survivors often experience a variety of physical, emotional and practical concerns that have historically gone unmet. In the first-half of the program, we'll talk about a new trend where survivors are seeking cancer rehab services devoted to treating and overcoming these lingering conditions. Segment B: New Treatments for Alzheimer's Today, an estimated 5.4 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's Disease. In the second-half of Tuesday's HearSay with Cathy Lewis, we'll examine some of the challenges facing medical professionals searching for a cure, including the recruiting and retaining of medical trial participants.

30/04/2012Battle Cry For Help: Veteran Suicide Prevention The Hampton Roads community recently lost a well-known local war veteran who took his own life. Jonathan Bartlett spent the last eight years as a double amputee, having lost his legs in an explosion in Iraq when he was only 19 years old. Jonathan was once a guest on HearSay and we'll hear a portion of his interview with host Cathy Lewis. The most recent numbers show each day, 18 American veterans commit suicide. On Monday's program, Cathy will talk with suicide prevention specialists and mental health providers about the subject of veteran suicide. What does it mean for our military men and women to return home, injured physically and psychologically, and build a life anew? What can we do to help? Our guests will talk about Start Norfolk, which is an event to bring together individuals of different mind and skill sets from entrepreneurs, engineers, developers, designers, and business people, all of which have the goal of building a viable startup over a weekend's time. This year it runs from April 27 - 29. "Hatch" is committed to growing and building Norfolk's technology and entrepreneurial community. Front Burner: Al Qaeda's Attack on the USS Cole
16/04/2012In October of 2000, while docked and refueling in Yemen, al-Qaeda suicide bombers attacked the United States Navy destroyer USS Cole. The crippling explosion killed 17 sailors and injured 39 others. The USS Cole's commanding officer at the time CDR Kirk S. Lippold will join Cathy to discuss his new book which recounts his harrowing experiences in the aftermath of the terrorist bombing.

In "Two is Enough: A Couple's Guide to Living Childless by Choice," author Laura Scott's tackles this question and she'll join us for the conversation.
