Like all the great disaster scenarios, Star Trek presents the TNG episode Disaster, in which the crew find themselves with a crippled ship and a ticking bomb that threatens to destroy the ship and crew if they don't act decisively. The Federation have been trying without success over the course of 100 years to establish relations with the Children of Tamar, a truly strange civilization of people who communicate through metaphor and imagery. Captain Picard is hopeful that the crew of the Enterprise will finally make progress and decipher their strange and complex language, but things get complicated when the Tamarian Captain beams them both down to a planet where they have to hunt an invisible beast.

The Klingon civil war comes to a head as the crew of the Enterprise work hard to expose Romulan intervention thus bringing an end to this unnecessary dispute.
