Finding Solace and Meaning with Kimi Moon
26/08/2020 Duration: 30minSend us a textFriend of the show (and IRL) Kimi Moon recently Zoomed with us to talk about starting a new career during the COVID pandemic. Kimi opened up about her personal trauma as a young person and after years of self medicating, not talking about the violence she endured, and pursuing dreams that weren't necessarily hers - she listened to the Universe and started the journey to get in touch with herself and her destiny. We thank Kimi for her honesty and for being forthcoming about her past. We understand that this conversation could cause triggers for those who have experienced domestic violence, but we hope that her story can inspire those who seek change in their lives. Thank you for listening and take care of yourselves. For more from Kimi, visit her website & online journal. With 400+ episodes, we're excited to revisit some of our favorites with our new listeners (and maybe new to our regular listeners). We chose this episode because it's timely for a couple of reasons. The biggest election of our lifetime is just around the corner, and our future next president is most likely going to nominate AT LEAST one new judge to the Supreme Court. And secondly, if you've been watching the Democratic National Convention, these talented ladies directed the mini profile of Dr. Jill Biden that introduced her keynote speech on day 2. Please tell everyone you know to not only vote, but vote as early as possible! For more info on absentee voting, click here.If you need some inspiration in your life you have GOT TO watch the documentary RBG which is about the honorable Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg (duh.) Directors Amanda McBaine & Jesse Moss of Boys State
12/08/2020 Duration: 25minSend us a textThe new A24 film, Boys State is physically jarring and hopeful all at once. It's a story of youth, how teenage boys talk about politics, how most of these boys are influenced by their parents politics, future change makers, and speaking from the heart. It's a glimpse into our collective future, and as hard as it is to hear some of the boys talk about politics that are completely out of their lane, it's necessary for us to listen and digest. We get into the making of this film and more with our guest co-directors Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss, who also happen to be our "neighbors" here in San Francisco. It's a small world. We hope you stream this timely movie this Friday when it becomes available to Apple TV +. 20/07/2020 Duration: 20minSend us a textThe documentary The Fight - (about a scrappy team of heroic ACLU lawyers in an electrifying battle over abortion rights, immigrant rights, LGBTQ rights and voting rights) comes out later this month. We got to see the film for our initial interview at the Sundance Film Festival with filmmakers Elyse Steinberg, Eli Despres, and ACLU lawyer Dale Ho - and as we'd like to say, we 100% fangirled over Dale. He is truly an American hero - fighting for our voting rights everyday. Also, as we found out, Dale is from the Bay Area, so that made him a million times cooler in our book. So, what do you do while you're sheltering-in-place and have some time on your hands? You reach out to the ACLU Director of Voting Rights Project (and Oakland A's fan) to come back on your show to talk about what he's been up to since we last saw him.
