Send us a textWe're starting a new series called Flash Back Friday's because we have a lot of content we want to share with our new listeners ( and maybe new to our regular listeners.)In honor of National Dive Bar Day, this week's Flash Back Friday is brought to you from a dive bar in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco, recorded in December of 2017. It represents the quintessential dive bar experience: good music, heavy pours of whiskey, and a ridiculous discussion about the location of a turkey anus. • Basic Bitching w/ Bill & Turner Ross - Directors of Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets

    08/07/2020 Duration: 41min

Send us a textWe've been wanting Bill and Turner Ross, directors of Bloody Nose Empty Pockets, back on the show since we met them at Sundance earlier this year. It was  100% worth the wait! If you're missing your favorite watering hole, this film is the cure for you. We "dive" into what makes dive bars so special, how they came up with the title, and why they decided to open the film with the first line of the Declaration of Independence. We discuss their unique ability to make the viewer feel like part of the story, and why Hollywood was NOT the place for them. They speak openly about their documentary on the making of Ben Zeitlin's Wendy, Second Star to the Right and Straight on 'Til Morning, and why the studio rejected it (If you're interested in watching it, you can send them a DM and they'll share the link with you!). As residents of one of our favorite places in the world, New Orleans, they get into the current vibe of the city, and how they're getting throug

    03/07/2020 Duration: 21min

Send us a textFlashing back to our July 2018 conversation with Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal about their film Blindspotting. Thanks to the brilliant mind of our Producer Char, we're flashing back to our July 2018 conversation with Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal when they were promoting their new film Blindspotting. This conversation is hella timely as we talk about police killings, trauma fatigue, and more. If you have HBO you can stream Blindspotting now. We highly suggest it. 2018 Show Notes:Oooooooooo weeeeee! The ladies of Bitch Talk had the chance to see Blindspotting a couple of months ago, and the minute it was over Erin and Ange knew they had to talk with Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal immediately. The ladies had a great conversation with the East Bay natives and we truly hope this film soars at the box office. Sorry To Bother You and Blindspotting both honor the love, complexity, and complete vibe of an Oakland that is quickly turning into an unrecognizable place  to all of these homegrown filmmak

  • Basic Bitch with Marina Stankov-Hodge - Part 2

    17/06/2020 Duration: 20min

Send us a textWelcome to part 2 of our conversation with nurse/dancer/musician/activist Marina Stankov-Hodge. We originally did not plan on having a 2 part episode, but our "post" conversation talk provided to be so good, we decided to share it anyway! We talk about Black Trans deaths, the phobia in Black culture with the queer community, and the problem with hypermasculinity. We discuss different aspects of street dance that originated in gay clubs like Waacking and battles, and the street dance community's responsibility to shed light on its origins. We agree one of the most important things we can be doing right now is having conversations with our families, our friends, and anyone who is willing to listen. And this is an ongoing conversation, it can't just stop with one narrative. In closing, she shares a book that's been helping her gain perspective, Ross Gay's The Book of Delights. Marina has such a unique talent of explaining really complicated topics from a thoughtful and

  • Basic Bitch with Marina Stankov-Hodge - Part 1

    15/06/2020 Duration: 42min

Send us a textThis is nurse/dancer/musician/activist Marina Stankov-Hodge's third time joining us on Bitch Talk! She's one of our favorite guests, and her episodes reflect her uniqueness and diversity as a person. Her first episode centered around her origin story leading up to becoming a nurse and her work in Brazil (which ends with an original song performance!), and her second episode was recorded in April, about her experience as a frontline worker during a pandemic. It's only been 2 months, but as we all know, A LOT has changed. The first thing that sparked us wanting her back on the show was a video posted by Mix'd Ingrdnts, of Marina breakdancing during a protest in Alameda. We get into the connection between her activism and love for dance, systemic racism, and her experience being a child of mixed race parents. She had so much to share, we're breaking it into 2 episodes! Be well, stay safe, and thank you for staying home.Subscribe to our NEW channel on YouTube for behind the

  • An International Basic Bitch with Anna Mangelsdorf and Lizi Nachum - Part 1

    10/06/2020 Duration: 25min

Send us a textWelcome to our international Basic Bitch with Anna Mangelsdorf, an artist in Germany, and Lizi Nachum, a teacher in Israel. With all of the issues going on in our country, it's easy to be stuck inside our bubbles. We wanted to get some different perspectives from people just like us, only on the other side of the world. We discuss the difference in our country's response to Covid-19, and their country's protests in support of Black Lives Matter. Anna shares how Germany has dealt with the stigma of Nazism and WW2, and how meeting Lizi (the first Jewish person she ever met) on a trip to Guatemala changed her life. We were so grateful to these ladies for their honesty on such complicated topics. Our conversation went so well, we had to break it into 2 episodes! Be on the lookout for part 2 when Lizi shares a traumatizing experience while traveling through the US, and how volunteering for an organization in Israel helped change her perspective on who we are taught is the enemy, and wh

  • Bitch Talking w/Industrial Designer Ti Chang of CRAVE

    09/06/2020 Duration: 33min

Send us a textIndustrial designer Ti Chang had an idea. She wanted to change the way women experienced self-pleasure. In 2008, Ti took all of her savings and her idea  of designer/wearable vibrators to China for production -- at that time the idea was called Incoqnito.  While she was shopping her product around, she  met entrepreneur Michael Topolovac who owned CRAVE and acquired Ti's company. Since teaming up with CRAVE, Ti has designed a line of luxury sex toys for women. She is passionate about evolving the conversation around pleasure to being less of a stigma and using design as activism.  It was enlightening for us to speak with Ti about industrial design. There are not a lot of women in this field and we learned a lot about how male-dominated product design is -- including sex toys made for women. We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did and please follow Ti here. Be safe. We discuss the difficulties of hiring a female crew, why we need allies, and the importance of sharing stories about women lifting each other up (ie: Late Night and The High Note). We also dive into the score for The High Note (spoiler: it's so good!), and how being Diana Ross' daughter made it hard for Tracee Ellis Ross to share her gift of song. Ange tries to get more info on Nisha's time as drummer in a Brooklyn garage band named The Flying Guacamoles, but apparently there's no archival footage.
