Warner Bros. have struggled to get their DC universe in order, Universal failed miserably on their "Dark" universe of horror movie monsters and the Star Wars cinematic universe is a joke that's fallen flat. Fast and the Furious however is crushing it in the box office and with audiences. I don't know how to feel about this one. Firstly the trailer didn't prepare me for this movie. I was expecting a zombie comedy but I struggle to call this a comedy, not that it isn't funny. It's the tone. With more celebrity than you can shake a stick at The Dead Don't Die is an odd experience that I'm still conflicted about. I took 6 pages worth of note for this one! Doom is one of the worst video game movies adaptations, despite being probably one of the easiest things to adapt. Some how it got a sequel, over a decade after coming out. A witches curse placed on a town is now besieged by zombies on an annual basis. Just when you thought things couldn't get worse a small group of inept cops are transporting a supernatural killer through that very town on the very night when the dead rise to attack the towns people. talk about contrived. Bonejangles wastes a wonderful premise with a terrible script, horrible characters and the only thing to ever offend me. It's terror time again! And "Scooby Doo! Return to Zombie Island" is a terrifying sight. A "sequel" that retcons the original movie to fit a new narrative that continues the continuity of the previous Scooby Doo movie "Curse of the 13th Ghost". Needless to say, it reaches none of the standards set by the original movie "Scooby Doo on Zombie Island. I don't know what I expected but I'm upset with the results this movie delivered. A weak, half baked sequel riding the coat tails of the superior original movie. It feels like they are trying to use humor to hide the fact they are coming with a lackluster product. Instead of a soft reboot sequel that changes characters, motivations and revelations they could have made a wholly original Scooby Doo movie that got them to whatever continuity they wanted without besmirching the original. The typical band movie where the group gets dragged into some crazy circumstance and the audience is left to wonder; how will their bond make it through this situation? Not in the Spice Girls movie! Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy was amazing, there is no doubt about that. It spawned a sequel, 2 animated Hellboy cartoons and a Hellboy video game. Sadly we are never getting a Hellboy 3 to finish out the trilogy. But a reboot may serve as a good starting point after a decade of waiting. Good Omens is a book written by Neil Gaiman (Sandman, Coraline, New Gods, etc.) and Terry Pratchett (Discworld, Hogfather, etc.) about an angel, a demon, the antichrist, the kraken, some aliens, a couple of witchfinders, a descendant, some kinds, more angels, more demons and the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. Needless to say it is an odd story. It certainly wasn't what I was expecting but I never read the book. It also wasn't terrible, it was a misfire on what could have been a good semi-horror film. The DC animated movies are generally good with a few dotting the landscape that can be called great. Batman vs the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is one of those movies. Based off the comics where Batman meets the TMNT's. Hardly a problem can be found in this gem of the animated DC universe. The Turtles are spot on, Troy Baker's Batman is very well done, the humor is on point and it even leaves some interesting ideas open for a sequel. Wrestle May-nia 4 continues with probably the worst movie of the year, so far. The Forbidden Kingdom is fun. Jackie Chan and Jet Li being awesome and really carrying the movie. Enter the Warriors Gate is the polar opposite of that. It is no fun and it is dragged along by some random ass kid with the worst voice in history.
