Synopsis

Broadcasting from the heart of Westwood with Iford Primary School, Westwood Radio is organised and run by the children for the local school and village community of Westwood, Wiltshire in the UK. Reporting on school news, sports, items of community, local and national interest and even birthday shout outs and interviews, the content of each broadcast is created entirely by the children and presented with confidence and energy LIVE every Friday afternoon at 2.30pm.

    I am so proud to be posting this track as it is a show hosted and presented by the youngest class in our school. With Thistle class coming to the end of their Under the Sea topic, May, Alice and Lewis hosted a wonderful LIVE show with everyone taking part, reading some of the excellent writing that they have produced this term. There was so much confidence and with plenty of listeners and texts from our audience, this was an afternoon to remember. Well done everyone!

    Today was a very special first for Westwood Radio as we broadcast our first live outside broadcast from Wiltshire Heights Residential Care Home in Bradford on Avon. Our team of Y6 broadcasters spent the show entertaining and even interviewing the residents to find out about their work and living locally - all part of our Oral History Project. It was a wonderful afternoon and a real privilege to meet such wonderful people. Our children were so respectful and such a credit to our school.

With the long awaited return of Oscar to the team, he took straight to hosting duties, with him and Ellie delivering a masterclass in education radio. A must listen show, if only to marvel at the confidence of our brilliant broadcasters.

    We had the pleasure of welcoming Ben Prater and his BBC Breakfast Show Team to our school as part of their #stepintosummer campaign, where they broadcast live from the playground and what a morning we had! Afterwards, Ben kindly gave us some time to be interviewed and Luke asked him all about his life in radio and advice for our broadcasters who may want a career in broadcasting. Thank you, Ben!
