Whether it's a global pandemic or another horrifying video of cops ending a life, one thing never ceases: Corporations and their ability to get out the message that they care and you can depend on them. Hey, they gotta find a way to get to your cash somehow. A record 15.6 million folks watched the first round of this year's NFL Draft, a ratings record, and only the most blind sheep are pretending that it's because of the thirst for football and not out of sheer boredom. (Those sheep are out there, tho.) The spectacle of seeing how the event would go down was also a draw, and mostly, it came off well. You may be surprised to learn that with all other real sports cancelling everything due to COVID-19, someone somewhere still thinks it's a good idea to have a special event. You won't be surprised to find out that it's the same company that once continued a show after one of its workers fell to his death right in their ring in front of thousands. No March Badness. No NBA. No baseball. Probably a delayed summer Olympics. For Pete's sake, they're pre-taping Wrestlemania in an empty gym. Coronavirus has put a shocking halt to life as we know it all over the world, and it's even affected the lives of Jay and Dre. With the Houston Astros and their sign-stealing scandal at the fore of seemingly every baseball story, cheating is big in the news.  Jay and Dre chat about the scheme and the repercussions.  Is stealing signs really that big of a deal?  Can teams come up with ways to combat it instead of heplpessly complaining about it?  Is it dirtier than steroids or spitballs or corked bats?  How does it compare to cheating in the other major sports?  Do fans really care or isn't it all about winning?  What about the players?  And if it's that important, why did the sport's top brass seem to ignore it when it was first discussed?   Theme credit: "Deep Of The Street" by Jeremie Guerrier   CC BY-ND 4.0

After years of firing up the Oscars toward the end of February or early March, this year the 92nd Academy Awards takes place a week after the Super Bowl.  Jay and Dre have even less time to catch up on the nominees, so they will rely even more than normal on the world's biggest big screen fan, Dave the Movie Expert.  The Best Picture race seems a little more wide open than normal, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see 1917, Joker, or Parasite stand victorious.  The acting and directing categories may not be complete slam dunks, either.  Was this a year high in quality and variety, or a year in which nothing was all that great?  All the guys will weigh in, but as always, only Dave has actually seen the films!   Theme credit: "Deep Of The Street" by Jeremie Guerrier   CC BY-ND 4.0

For the third postseason game in a row, the Kansas City Chiefs found themselves losing by double digits. Ever since Jay's dominant handicapping season of 2013, Dre has found a way to get his hand raised at the end of every year. But it's all on the line this year, as Jay played the long game and set up a winner-take-all scenario where Dre has to pick The Big Game correctly or turn the crown over to Jay. So after two weeks of hype, the question stands: Does Dre stan for Andy Reid's Chiefs or Kyle Shanahan's 49ers? Due to Dre blowing the only head-to-head battle with Jay in the Divisional Round (not to mention the other three games also), Jay has moved into such a position as to not have to disagree on either Conference Final game and just make Dre pick the Super Bowl correctly.  So there could be no arguing at all on this episode, or Jay could risk going against Dre this coming Sunday and go for the lead knowing that if he loses, it's curtains.  The guys recap a semifinal weekend full of upsets and surprises before making their calls to decide who goes to the Big Game.  Will it be Derrick Henry and the brutalizing Titans or Pat Mahomes and the zombie Chiefs?  Will it be Aaron Rodgers one more time leading the Packers or Jimmy Garoppolo and the new kids, the 49ers?   Theme credit: "Deep Of The Street" by Jeremie Guerrier   CC BY-ND 4.0

It was not the best start to playoff handicapping for Jay or Dre. Both watched helplessly as their first three Wild Card picks fell, but at least they won the final game thanks to a QB shot to the head. The boys gather themselves and look ahead to the Divisional Round, where Jay will have to decide if now is the time to challenge the picks leader Dre or if he will punt and wait for the conference title games. This weekend sees a giddy Kirk Cousins lead the Vikings to Santa Clara to face Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers, then on Saturday night Derrick Henry tries to keep steamrolling as the Titans visit MVP Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. On Sunday, DeShaun Watson and J.J. Another long but fun NFL year is in the books, and everyone's favorite time begins, #playoffszn. Jay and Dre catch up on a Week 17 that saw Coin regain its handicapping dominance over both of them. Then they look ahead to Wild Card Weekend. On Saturday, a tradition unlike any other continues as the Texans open the playoffs hosting an afternoon contest, this year against the tough Bills. In the evening, the long-awaited collapse of the Patriots dynasty may happen as they host the surging Titans. It's Week 17, and here at IMLD, that means the tradition continues: The guys pick every game versus the flip of a coin. And this year, with as many teams benching players as any year in recent memory, the task of handicapping is that much tougher. After reviewing Week 16, Jay, Dre and Coin take their best shot at picking Week 17. The Chiefs join the Ravens as recipients of a 1st-round bye by beating the Chargers, but only if the Patriots manage to lose to the Dolphins. The Titans take the #6 seed if they win in Houston, but if they don't, the Steelers or even the Raiders have a shot. The Eagles take the NFC East by beating the Giants, but if they don't, the Cowboys take it by beating the Redskins. Jay and Dre have to shake off a terrible week handicapping the NFL, right after a fantastic week. They get humbled recapping Week 15, then they look ahead to Week 16 which is highlighted by a flexed Saturday slate featuring six teams all at .500 or better. In the middle game, the Bills have a shot at really putting a scare in the Patriots, but New England once again takes the AFC East with a victory. On Sunday, the Cowboys and Eagles battle for control of the NFC East, while the Titans fight for their playoff lives hosting the Saints. It's late in the season, but the guys are hitting their stride. Jay and Dre look back on a pair of ten-win weeks ATS, and they both also won their Locks. Then they look ahead to Week 15, where the burning question will be: Did the "advance scouting" of taping the Bengals sideline assist the Patriots in stopping their losing streak? While Dre got back on the winning track vs. Jay in Week 13, the boys still haven't figured out the special sauce behind making a successful Lock of the Week.  They discuss an active slate in the NFL this past weekend before looking ahead to an active slate coming up. Week 14 will be about feasting your eyes on three marquee matchups: The Ravens try to stay in the top spot in the AFC as they battle the strong Bills, who are still in the hunt for the AFC East crown; the winner of the 49ers-Saints brawl will position themselves to fight with Seattle for the top spot in the NFC; and Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs look for revenge as they visit their foes in last year's AFC title game, the World champion Patriots.   Theme credit: "Deep Of The Street" by Jeremie Guerrier   CC BY-ND 4.0

After an eventful Thanksgiving that saw a Bears comeback win fall short of the number, a Bills throttling of the Cowboys, and a last gasp Dirty Bird fally come up empty against the Saints, Jay and Dre are back to give their insights on the rest of Week 13 ATS. The boys tried some out-of-bounds picks for NFL Week 12, but Jay had much more success than Dre. The guys recap the past weekend of football, including more Dre second-guessing his Locks, then they give their picks for the Thanksgiving Triple Gobble. Enigmatic Mitch Trubisky and the Bears or QB roulette with the Lions? Tough and potentially difficult playoff squad in the Bills or tough and potentially desperate squad in the Cowboys? No one got cracked over the head with their own helmet, so Week 11 in the NFL was necessarily less exciting than its Thursday night beginner. And with only three games difference in their picks, Jay and Dre weren't going to create much excitement in their handicapping standings, but Jay did take two. The boys recap last weekend before digging into their picks for Week 12. Week 10 in the NFL was eventful, with San Francisco going down as the last unbeaten team, Baltimore sending notice to the whole league, and underdogs (and Dre) going 9-4 ATS. But the events of Thursday night to kick off Week 11 have overshadowed everything else. Jay and Dre give their takes concerning the ugly incident during the Steelers-Browns game where Cleveland DE Myles Garrett ripped the helmet off Pittsburgh QB Mason Rudolph and walloped him with it. A Week 10 recap will still take place.
