He's now a senior lecturer on the history of popular culture and popular music.  Jon was introduced to AA in Los Angeles in 1999, and got sober in London in the Summer of 2000.  After fourteen years of grateful recovery , including much service and sponsorship activity in AA, he quit the fellowship when he reclaimed his atheistic worldview.  Jon currently blogs about "Leaving AA, Staying Sober" at jonsleeper.wordpress.com and speaks on the history of AA (and the need for more public awareness of science-based, secular treatments for alcoholism) at Humanist Society and Skeptics in the Pub meetings across the UK.

Why are Nurses being coereced and extorted to AA for 5 years , forced to attend 3 days a week? How did this happen. Why and how did it get so entangled. I am shocked by what some Nurses have explained to me what is going on around the country. This is outrageous  and must be stopped. Educate -Law, medical students as to what true medicine is when it comes to SUD and how can we get a religous cult out of our mental health and social health system. Did you know that Nurses, Doctors, Pilots are all being forced to attend AA in a way that breaks their beloved traditions. Has anyone bother to explain to the FAA, or the commercail airlines this is in strict violation to the lay person in AA. BON (Board of Nursing) is also a bitch on wheels. The ASAM is not really anthing offical, except what they do to good doctors. Many kill themselves, rather then go to another AA meeting. "pray about it"  One oldtimer in a men's stagg in Hollywood, has been doing this and getting away with it for years. We suggest you go to the police and prosecute them.  SO why don't you? Today is a short episode to discuss why so many poeple think and say " AA is spiritual, not religious". From 50 somethings at a party, to parole officers, to girl on the street on the promenode. In the making of my film The 13th Step I dug deep to uncover why I too said this too many times. I found out that this is not true and a very important part of the whole bad picture. AA is being used in our courts, against our 1st amendment rights, its being forced on Pilots and Doctors and Nurses. Even men and women who have served their time are being told they MUST go to a 12 step based rehabilitation when they leave prison. Yes...this is true....WHo is making all the money here. ... If over drinking is a behavior and or a sign of mental illnesses why would we use prayer to fix or heal these issues. And if it were a disease, which I dont beleive it is, why again would I "pray about it" and not go see a PhD or A Dr? Join me today for a 30 minute show.
