3 Mercian are also fundraising during Herrick 19 with their 'Journey Home' challenge and while at MOB Price Jade witnessed the most bizarre fundraising phys she’s ever seen.

Having toured the sangars, witnessed the 3 Mercian Ferozashah parade, popped into the med centre and debriefed with the Kandak Liason Team Jade caught up with the Military Working Dog detachment after their last walk of the day

Force protection is one of the key roles of the soldiers from 3rd Battalion the Mercian Regiment deployed at MOB Price. That is, protecting the base, and those within it, from attack. 24/7 platoon sided shifts rotate between 3 main tasks; sangar duty, guarding the main entry point and being on call as the Quick Reaction Force or QRF. During her visit to the base Jade joined a those stagging on for Sangar duty by climbing the steep steps into the perimeter watchtowers. It’s certainly not a glamorous task, but very much a vital one.

Jade Callaway took a trip to MOB Price to find out about work and life at one of the last remaining locations in Helmand Province during it's final months. Touring around the camp she swung by a number of the units. The Kandak Liason Team is made up of soldiers from 3rd Battalion the Mercian Regiment deployed at MOB Price. Jade spoke to them just after their debrief following a successful operation, that was made all the more significant for taking place on 3 Mercian’s proudest battle honours day, Ferozashah. As increasing amounts of operations hand over to the Afghan National Security Forces, their role is a crucial one. One member of the team is LCpl Brendan Pogmore, a 50 Cal Gunner on the Husky Armoured Vehicles. It shows enormous progress that the ANA are now leading the majority of operations, but ISAF assistance on Herrick 19 continues while the force continues to develop. In the meantime, Major Dickenson and the MOB Price Med Centre staff are on hand.

On a Friday evening in Camp Bastion Jade found herself playing the part of Paddy McGuinness for the latest RSC squadron event – their own take on ITV’s Take Me Out. These squadron get togethers not only provide a much needed morale boost through the tour but also raise lots of cash for charity too. LCpl Michelle Mackay was the brainchild behind the latest instalment.

To see in the New Year in Camp Bastion 7th Armoured Brigade personnel completed the "Red Rat" 5 Km race. Jade Callaway went along and witnessed some fantastic times from the fastest runners, who were awarded trophies at the finish line…

Joint Aviation Group personnel in Camp Bastion have marked their presence right through Operation Herrick by painting commemorative murals onto the blast walls. Jade Callaway took a tour with the man overseeing one of the last to be painted, having witnessed the first of it’s kind come to life some 8 years ago.

Imam Asim Hafiz, the muslim religious advisor to chief of the defence staff has returned to Afghanistan but this time just for a short visit. It’s one of many trips he has made to the country and is the first since the end of his tour as religious advisor to the Regional Command South West Commander and Deputy commander. Jade Callaway spoke to him about his visit and how his former role proved vital throughout Op Herrick.

For the last time before they disband under the Army 2020 plans 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment have gathered to celebrate their most prestigious battle honours day. Jade Callaway joined them as members of the battalion gathered from bases all across Afghanistan in MOB Price to celebrate their history together for the last time.

The crash fire section at Air Traffic Control Camp Bastion is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by 2 shifts of RAF and USMC Fire Sections. They are on standby to deal with any incidents at Camp Bastion’s busy airfield. Simon Marlow and Jade Callaway popped along to find out what they do and to cause some mischief in their fire trucks... HMS Victory’s sickbay was in the depths of the ship and very basic. Heading below decks we visit the place where Admiral Lord Nelson was looked after during the battle of Trafalgar.

Heading back inside HMS Victory onto the gun deck we take an up-close look at the armaments aboard the ship.
