The Panthers were down 2 early in the 3rd period and got two quick goal 2:19 apart(Barkov, then Lomberg) early in the 3rd period, but the game being tied didn't last for long as Carolina got two goals of their own in a span of 21 seconds. After the first Empty net goal by Shane Gostisbehere to make it 5-2, the Panthers made a charge making this game closer than what the final score indicated when Duclair got his first goal since 2/28 in Tampa Bay and Carter Verhaeghe scored goal number 42, but too little too late when Carolina scored the empty netter to clinch the Panthers Wild Card 2 in the East. Before the guys discuss the playoff matchup, the guys go over what Panthers President and CEO Matthew Caldwell said to the media during the 1st intermission. The guys discuss the culture

  • Panthers Lose To Toronto in OT, Still In Control of Their Destiny

    11/04/2023 Duration: 35min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta(@fjojr and @FlaCatsHistory) to chat about Monday's 2-1 OT loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs at home. The Panthers controlled the play and lacked the finishing touch on Monday Night as it looked as if the Panthers were the more desperate team. Toronto was the more opportunistic team as they had almost equal the amount of high danger chances as the Panthers despite the Cats having almost double the amount of shots as Toronto. The guys go over how the Panthers Power play was little to be desired on Monday night, as well as the results from the out of town scoreboard. Third and final segment, the guys will go over the clinching scenarios as game 82 gets closer(subject to change as the games on Tuesday and Wednesday can have Florida clinch before taking the ice again) on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.Follow & Subscrib

    07/04/2023 Duration: 35min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Nick Fairbanks(@prudentia0) to discuss the Panthers 7-2 slaughter of the Ottawa Senators. The Senators were dominant in the possession metrics all game, but Alex Lyon was the difference in this one once again. Lyon went 56/58 on the night including 12 saves on the PK. He joins some pretty good company as far as goaltenders to make 50+ saves in a single game. The Panthers flipped the scripts from their most recent matchup against the Senators. After giving up 3 PPG's in their previous matchup, the Panthers got 3 of their own on Thursday night(3/6 on the PP) and even got a short handed goal by Aleksander Barkov. This game had a lot of chippiness, game misconducts, and multiple players crashing to the net at Alex Lyon. The guys discuss how this game got out of control, who starts in net if there is a healthy Sergei Bobrovsky and preview Saturday night's game against Washington on today's edition of the Locked On FL

  • State Of The Cats: Jessica Blaylock

    06/04/2023 Duration: 43min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Jessica Blaylock(@JessBlaylock) from Bally Sports Florida for today's edition of State Of The Cats. Armando and Jessica discuss the roller coaster of emotions of the Panthers' 4-game winning streak as they are back in a playoff spot. The two go into the importance of the 3rd goaltender in the NHL and go back to when the Panthers carried 3 goaltenders last year(Bobrovsky, Knight, Jonas Johansson). They also contrast the two situations with the change in makeup as well around the goaltending. We do have more of an update on Sam Bennett and Sergei Bobrovsky when prior to Thursday night's game against Ottawa. They discuss the Strength of Schedule for all the remaining teams chasing the final wild card spot(s), and there is a magic number for the Panthers as they can clinch a playoff spot as soon as this weekend. They chat about how the team is approaching the last 4 games in the regular season and more on today's ed

  • Panthers Put The Sabres To Bed While Being Back in a Playoff Spot

    05/04/2023 Duration: 35min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday. The guys discuss the Tuesday night's game being the Battle of the Goalies: Alex Lyon vs. Devon Levi. The guys discuss how the Panthers were able to match the Buffalo Sabres in the special teams battle by getting a PPG of their own after Buffalo took the lead on the man advantage. The game was filled with a lot of penalties early on where only 11:45 was spent at 5-on-5. Despite very little goals, it was a very high paced game where the Panthers were creating chances due to taking away shooting lanes and committed to blocking shots, which at times, led to rushes. Alex Lyon comes up huge once again as he went 39/40 on the night and has gone 8 straight periods without allowing a goal at even strength. Speaking of Even strength, we discuss on Tuesday's show about winning that battle. The guys discuss how the Panthers were able to win at 5-on-5 on th

    03/04/2023 Duration: 30min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is back to discuss the Panthers completing their 4-game road trip getting 6 out of 8 points to keep themselves in the playoff race. We go over the win in Columbus where they played a complete 60-minute game and took advantage of an injury riddled Columbus team on Saturday Night. Panthers got some major help thanks to the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning and the Carolina Hurricanes over the weekend that finds the Florida Panthers back in control of their destiny. Since March 20th, we've seen the Panthers go from playing their worst Hockey of the season to their best, all behind the Lyon King, Alex Lyon. Carter Verhaeghe is now a 40-goal scorer and Matthew Tkachuk is 2 points away from tying his career hight in points at 104. Panthers now return home where they will play 4 of their last 5 games at FLA Live Arena to close out the season. We discuss what a grand opportunity it is for the Panthers in the last 5 games and mor

  • Cats Sweep Habs, With a Chance To Salvage The Road Trip

    31/03/2023 Duration: 35min

It's a Fairbanks Friday edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is joined by Nick Fairbanks(@prudentia0) to discuss the Panthers 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens. The Panthers played mostly a 60 minute game. Panthers let a fluke goal less than 2 minutes into the game, but the Panthers were quick to respond to tie the game at 1 and took over from there. Panthers were not their sharpest on Wednesday against Toronto, but it was a 180 against Montreal when the team was committed to get their bodies in front of shot, help on the board battles and have clean breakouts. The new line of Luostarinen-Lundell-Tkachuk continues to buzz as Anton Lundell gets two goals on the night(3 goals in his last 2) and Matthew Tkachuk getting the hat trick on the night, his second as a Panther. Alex Lyon over the last 48 hours has stopped 56/60 shots(.933 save percentage) to help the Panthers get two big wins in Canada. Now they have a chance to salvage the road trip as they take their show

  • Cats Win With The Heart Of A Lyon Over Toronto

    30/03/2023 Duration: 31min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss the Panthers' 3-2 OT win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, which was their first win at Scotiabank Arena since 2/3/20. The Panthers struggled with their breakouts and generating speed through the neutral zone through the first 30 minutes(did not generate their first shot of the 2nd until 10 minutes in, had 7 total through 30). The Panthers led 1-0 after the first minute, but it was nowhere near a comfortable lead. Panthers had G Alex Lyon between the pipes as Sergei Bobrovsky was scratched due to a Non-COVID Related Illness(Panthers called up Mack Guzda to back up Lyon). The Leafs were off and running living in the slot, getting in the passing lanes and making life on Alex Lyon difficult. Panthers went to the box 4 times, but were able to go perfect on the PK not getting out of position to give Toronto easy opportunities on Lyon. Panthers caught a few breaks with a goal being called back due to a challenge

    28/03/2023 Duration: 33min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is joined by Alex Baumgartner(@ABaumgartner91) to discuss the Panthers 5-2 loss against the Ottawa Senators. Special teams continue to be the issue for the Cats as they went 1/4 on the Penalty kill against one of the leagues best Power Plays. Panthers outscored Ottawa at 5-on-5 2-1, but taking penalties at the wrong time put the Panthers behind the 8-ball. It's another game where they trailed by multiple goals(happened twice on Monday night), and it happened right at the jump for Florida. It was another battle between the Tkachuk brothers with Brady taking this one with 2 points (1,1) on the night. Panthers may have gotten the SOG advantage, but both of their goals on Monday Night came from the point(Gus Forsling getting both goals), and even cut the game to one at one point with just over 10 minutes left in the 3rd. Panthers now 0/7 in the last 2 games on the Power play after having a hot streak on the man advantage. The

  • It Feels Like It's Over

    27/03/2023 Duration: 33min

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss how the Florida Panthers can't seem to help themselves in the last 3 games(0-3-0). Florida on Saturday night got off to the fastest of starts just only allowing 3 SOG in the first period(1 at 5-on-5), but the last 40 minutes belonged to the New York Rangers as puck management was the issue for Florida. The Cats kept the big guns of New York off the scoresheet(that's if you don't count the own goal that was credited to Patrick Kane), but it was the kid line for the New York Rangers that the Panthers allowed to get going. The Panthers in the last 3 games have been great at killing penalties(only allowing 1 PPG); if it's the PK that has a stretch of playing well, then it's another issue that arises. The 5-on-5 play for the Panthers has been trouble over the last 3 games, a lot doing with the constant line shuffles due to Sam Bennett's injury. The Panthers now are at a point with 9 games remaining, this 4-g

  • Panthers Slow Starts To 1st and 2nd Proved Costly as They Drop Their Second Straight in Regulation

    24/03/2023 Duration: 36min

It's a Fairbanks Friday Edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Nick Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) joins Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) to discuss the Panthers' 6-2 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Panthers were celebrating Pride Night and it came with controversy as Eric and Marc Staal did not take the ice for warmups. The Panthers were slow to start the 1st and 2nd period and it resulted in them playing consistently behind. The Maple Leafs were the team with the sticks in the passing and shooting lanes while the Panthers were mostly around the perimeter on Thursday Night. Armando and Nick discuss how Thursday's loss to Toronto makes Tuesday's loss to Philly look a bit worse now as the Panthers are now hoping that the Penguins can drop some games now. The Panthers will need an 8-2-0 finish in the last 10 to stamp themselves into the playoffs? Armando and Nick will discuss this and today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every DayFollow & Subscribe on all Podcast plat

  • The Sky isn t Falling On The Panthers Playoff Hopes After Loss In Philly

    22/03/2023 Duration: 37min

It is a Winans Wednesday Edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) joins Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) to recap the Panthers' 6-3 loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers. Broad Street has been a house of horrors for the Panthers this season as Carter Hart has a combined 89/95(.936 sv%) in both games he's faced against Florida. This game however was lost late in the second period where the Panthers gave up 3 goals in 2:01 where there were constant miscommunications with their defense corps, and Alex Lyon just could not make that "game changing save." The Panthers were without F Anthony Duclair and Sam Bennett on Tuesday night against Philadelphia, but the sky is not falling for the Panthers as for the time being, they do not control their own destiny(could change with a Pittsburgh loss of any kind tonight vs. Colorado). The guys also discuss how Tuesday's loss just makes Thursday and Saturday's game against 2 playoff teams in Toronto and NYR even more crucial for the P
