That was fun! After thoroughly dismantling the Texas A&M Aggies, the Alabama Crimson Tide are riding high. There is plenty to work on, and tweak, and continue to evolve towards, but this is a national championship caliber team. The Tide will be traveling to Oxford for a game against the Fightin' Lane Kiffens, and it will be in a monsoon. Hurricane Delta will be moving through, and that will affect how the game plays out. Ah, football is back and normalcy has returned. Alabama played a spectacular game for 2.5 quarters, but depth is a major concern in this Covid-changed season, so we'll give the Tide a pass on this BAMSradio. It's been a long time coming. Alabama finally takes the field against the Missouri Tigers this upcoming Saturday. The game is a wild card with Missouri breaking in a new head coach, and some expected offensive scheme changes given what Eliah Drinkwitz did at App State. Football inches ever closer, as the JV leagues are playing and entertaining SEC fans ahead of their debut in a couple of weeks. Another year, another deeply flawed ranking system. The only three three certainties in life are death, taxes, and CFP incompetence. That was not fun. Alabama fell to rival Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl, and now its on Nick Saban to fix a program that has several glaring flaws. The defensive staff has been a mess, and the product they put on the field every Saturday has suffered as a result of it. Defensive Coordinator Pete Golding is about to be Insurance Salesman Pete Golding, and look for him to be joined by several other defensive staffers whose position groups have fallen flat on their faces throughout the 2019 season. Happy thanksgiving all. It's been a busy football season for all of us over at BAMS, so we take a bit of a breather to wish all of our listeners a happy turkey day. Time keeps marching on, though, and its time for another Iron Bowl against the Auburn Tigers. The questions abound due to injuries along both the defensive line, as well as Tua Tagovailoa. As a result, the line is compressed to a measly 2 points in many sportsbooks. William and Drew are thinking the game is that close, while Thomas took a much larger score because Alabama needs a big win to buttress their college football playoff resume. In the most glib way possible, this past Saturday sucked. What should have been a great team win where every phase played at a high level in dismantling a decent Mississippi State team turned into a thing straight out of Alabama fan nightmares when Tua Tagovailoa went down with a season ending injury. The injury has caused moments of reflection, and assessments of Tua's legacy, even if that is a bit premature with the Iron Bowl coming down the pipe next week. What a shock. A tough 46-41 loss to the LSU Tigers has put Alabama squarely behind the College Football Playoff 8-ball. They do not control their own destiny, and will need some help to make it back to compete for a title, but they have no one to thank but themselves. We review the loss, and look ahead to Starkville. If Alabama wants to head back into the top 4, it starts on Saturday. The Tide cannot simply win. They must come out with an edge, and crush the Bulldogs by a score which would make sporting people blush in shame. Coach Cookie Monster brings his LSU Tigers to Tuscaloosa for a visit, and a beat down from Bama this weekend. Donald Trump will be there, and Twitter will scream about hillbilly Alabama and other nonsense. On the "stupid crap perpetuated by stupid people" front, the college football playoff rankings came out, and they are a grab bag from a sack of bull manure that nobody with a lick of sense can understand. Yes, your erstwhile producer Thomas Watts is angry about it. There is one good thing that came out of that Tuesday night fracas, and it is that Alabama is ranked #3 and that empowers the Disrespect Card. The dreaded Disrespect Card, not seen since Athens in 2015, has already bombed two programs back to the stone age in Florida and Georgia, and left them coachless. We do not think The Card will do the same to LSU, but it has filled us with confidence going into this matchup. Arkansas came in and got completely wrecked by the Crimson Tide for a homecoming win. The only thing that was unfortunate with the past weekend was mediocre weather. It was good to see Mac Jones have a solid game, and that puts many fans at ease seeing how well he played. In that vein, how good has Steve Sarkisian been over the first weeks of the year? We discuss that, and Thomas explains that the defense may not be as bad as many fans seem to think so far. This team is in an excellent spot going in to the bye, and the biggest game of the year thus far, and it is 150% fair to be very excited for that matchup. Well. That....happened? Alabama won, but the victory felt somewhat hollow given the injury situation that the Crimson Tide find themselves in. Make no mistake about it, the Tua injury was the one that Bama could least afford. Luckily, he has a couple of extra weeks to rehab, but how Tua-like our favorite Bama QB is against LSU in a couple of weeks remains to be seen.
