Sunday Night's Main Event

Wrestlepoloza is over, thankfully. And we’re back with SmackDown. Let’s see how WWE can disappoint us this week shall we?   We start the night with Paul Heyman and Cody Rhodes. After some back and forth the Brons show up and a beatdown starts to occur. Randy Orton comes out to make the save, setting up teases of both Brons vs Cody/Randy, and an eventual Cody/Randy feud. Our first match of the evening is a Tag Team Contenders Match to take on the Wyatt Sicks. Street Profits take on Melo Don’t Miz. This was a good match and continued to tell the story of Melo and Miz not being on the same page. Miz jumps into match and Melo doesn’t break up the pin… the break up will happen soon.   We then get a Women’s Tag Match with Giulia & Kiana James taking on Michin & B-Fab. The less that can be said about this the better.   Drew McIntyre, embracing the show in Florida comes out spewing conspiracy theories and in a walking boot. Jacob Fatu came out and beat him up.   Match of the Night tonight was the US Title

WWE begins the ESPN era tonight, and frankly, it wasn’t great.   This 6 match card was very skippable. And if you’re not in the US and watching on Netflix, you never want to watch a PLE live again.   We started with John Cena and Brock. Paul E is back in Brock’s corner again, and Brock destroys Cena.   The Usos vs the Brons with The LA Knight as special referee was a spot fest.   Stephanie Vaquer and Iyo Sky put on a hell of match. Booker T is probably reaching for a towel somewhere. The post match respect angle and Vaquer celebrating with her father was the second best thing on this show. Maybe the best thing.   CM Punk and AJ Lee took on the Pop-Tart Twins of Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins. This was an AEW tag match that made it on WWE TV. If you like tag wrestling, don’t watch this.   The highlight of the night was Undertaker announcing that he was inducting Steph McMahon into the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame was a surprising segment. We start tonight’s show with Michael Cole being manhandled by Brock Lesnar. Before he can be slammed, with no Becky in sight, the chivalrous Corey Graves stops Brock. And for his efforts, he gets F5ed a few times. Do we see Corey back in the ring soon? To replace him, we get Miz on commentary.   Our first match of the evening is Team Besties vs Chelesa and half the Hervice.    Fraxiom were supposed to have a match, but Team Brons decided to cause another melee. This ends with Nicholas coming out and making a match between the two. A tuneup match for Brons before Wrestlepaloza. You’ll never guess who won.   Nia comes out and tells us she put Tiffy in Tiffy Time Out. And she would love to have Jade’s physique and Jade wishes she had her in ring skills. And honestly, I can’t disagree with any of this promo. With Tiffy and Jade both coming out. Another melee ensues and we’re now getting a 3 way next week in Orlando.   Our US Title Planned (Cause I refuse to call this open) Challenge match is next. Sami vs Carmelo

Brock Lesnar opened the show, interrupted by R-Truth, who comically claimed to be "Ron Cena" and tried to defend John Cena’s honour. Lesnar ended the segment with an F5 to Truth, ripping his jeans exposing his Blue Underwear.   Sami Zayn retained the U.S. Title in a fantastic Open Challenge match against Rey Fenix. It was a high-energy, back-and-forth contest that ended with a Helluva Kick.   Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship ended in a Double Countout after a barricade spear. Nia Jax attacked both women afterward, continuing to insert herself in the title scene.   Drew McIntyre defeated Randy Orton in a hard-fought main event with a final Claymore Kick. Post-match, McIntyre tried to attack Orton again, but Cody Rhodes made the save and declared he’d face McIntyre at Wrestlepalooza.   Check us out at SmackDaddies.ca

We’re on the road the Paris, with a stop in Lyon with a very skippable SmackDown.   Our opening segment was John Cena and Logan Paul promo battle, that frankly goes a bit off the rails.   We’re supposed to get a women’s championship match, and in standard WWE fashion we get screwed out of that because Alexa/Charlotte get attacked by Green/Fyre which results in a 1 on 1 match between Green and Alexa.   Michin is out to challenge Kiana James. Don’t blink or you’ll miss the match. We’re getting now Michin vs Giulia. But honestly, I wouldn’t hold my breath on that match happening.   Drew MacIntyre and comes out and does his usual shtick. Him and Randy Orton get into it. RKOs to be had by all. In the back Randy meets with Nick Aldis and gives him a nip of Fireball Whiskey, which R-Truth tries to take but Nick Aldas says he’ll need that drink later.   Street Profits take on Melo Don’t Miz, with Miz experiencing PTSD and causing his team to lose to the Profits. So it’s just me.    Tonight’s SmackDown was the first of a two week European Tour (and early start times).   Becky Lynch's Irish Homecoming (Heel Turn) Lynch opened the show in Dublin to huge cheers, then turned on the crowd with a scathing promo, claiming they didn’t deserve her and mocking fan favorites. It ended with Tiffany Stratton, Nia Jax, and Jade Cargill getting involved, setting up the main event.     John Cena vs. Logan Paul Verbal Showdown Cena delivered a blistering promo on Paul, calling him a “parasite” and criticizing his attitude toward the business. Paul tried to get under Cena’s skin but ended up eating an Attitude Adjustment.     Randy Orton Returns After Drew McIntyre ran down Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton made a surprise return and hit McIntyre with an RKO.        

    Greg was on vacation this week (but is back for today’s show), Brad has paid TMZ and has some pictures to show of his week.   WWE travelled to Boston this week. Someone probably paid $60 for a couple of Sam Adams Summer Ales.   SmackDown was a pretty good show. Sami is now a SmackDown star. We get too much MFT.   Alexa vs Piper Niven started us off with a fun match. Alexa picked up the win.   Melo Don’t Miz took on Fraziom with Melo and Miz dissension and a win.   Drew MacIntyre tells us it’s all his fault.   DIY and the Street Profits had a great back and forth match. Maybe we see a 3 on 3 match with these teams in future.   R-Truth and Ron Killings showed up backstage… it really depends on which direction his hat is turned.   Finally we get MFTs and the Usos (Jimmy, Sami and Jacob) in our main event.

The face that used to run the place gives a promo and is interrupted by a face we wish we saw less, Logan Paul. Our two night SummerSlam has almost arrived, and what did WWE do to prepare us? John Cena, in his best Big Show impersonation, turned face tonight… maybe?
