Episodes

  • Parris and Jay's European Vacation

    18/07/2019 Duration: 01h48min

For our friends in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 5 years have elapsed since Thanos snapped his fingers and instantly removed half the population in the galaxy.  For Remember When, it's been over a year.  Time travel is funny like that ;) Now that we're back from our extended stay on Titan, we've got some catching up to do... personally, and cinematically!  We start the show with a spoiler-laden discussion on Avengers: Endgame.  When we last left our Marvel heroes, they were scattered across the galaxy, like dust in the wind (too soon?).  Endgame has the tough job of landing a story arc that has carried over 11 years and more than 20 movies.  Did it succeed? What DIDN'T we like?  Listen in and get settled, because we have thoughts. After that, we're gonna jump right into Spider-Man: Far From Home.  Peter Parker's return from The Blip, and his extended stay on Titan, has some serious MCU repercussions.   In the midst of this, we have some quick chats about Captain Marvel, Into The Spider-Verse (which, OMG, wat

  • It's Over Prime

    10/05/2018 Duration: 01h11min

18 movies.  Ten years.   That's how long this has been building up.  It would have been easy to chalk up the buzz behind Infinity War as marketing hype, rabid fanboy passion, or something else.  And honestly, before the movie came out, no one would have blamed you. And then the credits rolled on Infinity War.  And it turns out... no... it was all true.  All of it.  In some weird way, the movie manages to exceed the insane amounts of hype that led into it. And if you're like us, when those credits finished rolling... you walked out of the theater with your jaw hanging open, and some emotional scars.   So let's heal together!  After multiple viewings, Parris and Jay sit down to talk about the fallout from Infinity War... both in terms of the events of the movie, and how the movie has impacted us.   We're going to go into detail on all the events of Infinity War, beginning to end.  We talk about the things that were under-served, the characters we didn't deserve, and the path that's been laid out over the past

  • Thanos and The Giant Peach

    21/03/2018 Duration: 01h12min

We thought we were prepared. After that hype-generating trailer back in November, we thought we were ready for what Infinity War had to offer.  And then that second trailer hit last week... We're starting the show with BOTH of us needing an adult, and recap'ing the second trailer.  Parris and Jay have theories.. who lives, who dies, and just who the heck Peter Dinklage is playing.  (We're guessing it's not Thor) And on the flip side of the Marvel coin, there's the second season of Jessica Jones.  Is it as bad as Iron Fist?  No. But the show really does have some problems, and we've got to talk about that Villain problem that Marvel's running up against.   Then it's trailer talk, and some TV catch-up! This Is Us and The Good Place are two fantastic shows you need to be watching if you aren't already. Lastly, we jump into Doctor Who, some listener Q&A... and Jay's got a question.  And a confession.  But we'll get to that. Thank you, as always to our listeners.  We had some amazing feedback on the last sh

  • The Last Jedi of Wakanda

    28/02/2018 Duration: 01h40min

After a lengthy slumber that feels like something the Winter Soldier would have experienced, Remember When is back on the air.  Grab a drink and get comfortable, because we have a LOT of ground to cover. To start our show, there's the Star Wars conversation.  We're covering The Last Jedi with a ton of spoilers, and talking about the transitional elements of this movie, how the future of the Skywalker franchise looks, and what we think about this whole "Anthology" set of prequels.  If Solo's teasers are any indication, the future isn't so bright for them. Then we jump into the latter half of Netflix's lineup of Marvel shows in 2017.  After knockout hits in Luke Cage and Daredevil, we're faced with the Sophomore Slump of Iron Fist and the mediocre Defenders.  We've got lots to say. And what about Spider-Man Homecoming? Is it one of the best things to come out of the Sony email hack, or is Michael Keaton still just Birdman? Do we finally have a definitive web slinger, and is Tom Holland the right guy?  After tha

  • Rogue League One Of Justice

    29/03/2017 Duration: 01h27min

OK you guys, listen. We normally start the show and tell you how and where to find us. Email addresses, phone numbers, Facebook pages, and so on. NONE OF THAT MATTERS. We're skipping the usual introductions and jumping right in this time, because holy cow... a lot has happened in the last few months! We start out talking about Rogue One.  The latest in the Star Wars rebirth movies had some shaky production stories behind it.  One of us hated it, and the other one loved it.  Flawed? Yes.  But we've got both sides of the Force with us here. And the high ground! After that, it's time to talk Justice League, Marvel, and what the rest of 2017 looks like. While we're on the subject of Marvel, we should probably mention that Jay has watched the entirety of Luke Cage! It's time for us to talk about the Marvel universe in Netflix.  Thankfully, Parris has also watched Iron Fist and is happy to give us important words of caution.   Words like "boring" and "yawn".  Oh, and speaking of Netflix?  Stranger Things.  It hap

  • Batman And The Chocolate Factory

    13/09/2016 Duration: 01h01min

Hello again! You've probably been wondering about us, and where we've been. It's a long story that involved job changes, geographical moves, and general life circumstances. But let's skip the details and get right into the goodness. Remember When is back on the air! We should warn you though... this may be the most Superhero-y episode we've ever done!  The last few months seem like they've been filled with nothing but comic book movies and trailers. Our starting topic is Batman vs. Superman vs. Your Better Judgment. This trainwreck of DC's has a lot to be ashamed about and boy, do we talk about that shame. We also cover the follow-up, Suicide Squad, which.... well, we don't want to spoil EVERYTHING in the write-up. Then we jump into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look back at Civil War. It's the Avengers 2 you deserved. And while we're on the topic of superheroes, Jay mentions that he's all caught up on the Marvel Netflix shows. And boy, does he have some words! In the middle of all this, we've got talk

  • The Podcast Awakens

    23/12/2015 Duration: 01h37min

The wait is over, and it has finally arrived. Episode VII is now in theaters, and we're dusting off the microphones to give you an early Christmas present! Our entire episode show is nearly 90 minutes long, and it focuses exclusively on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Be warned: This show is one of the most spoiler-filled romps you've ever experienced.   With two separate screenings under each of our respective belts, we've each walked away with different perspectives. This show is a deep dive into EVERYTHING related to The Force Awakens... the strengths and weaknesses of the new characters, the problems inherent with bringing back an old cast, where the new movie falls flat, and what it gets right. It's a passionate discussion. The two of us end up on opposite sides of the Like/Dislike scale in quite a few areas, even in a few spots you might not expect. Get ready. Get comfortable. We're about to tell you everything we think and feel about the "revival" of the Star Wars franchise. And it's gonna be amazing. As

  • Age of Thrones

    24/06/2015 Duration: 50min

"Chewie... we're home" And since we know your RSS feed has been feeling a little dusty, we don't waste a lot of time with the formalities in our latest episode of Remember When. We've barely said our hello's when we jump into the show content. Because BOY OH BOY, we have a lot of ground to cover! Age of Ultron is our first target. It's been hyped, marketed, teased, and long-sought-after. But after the extensive wait, this movie just can't meet expectations. We're prepared to tear it a new one. We spoil the heck out of this movie. Then there's the new season of Game of Snore... er, Game of Thrones. Jay came close to tapping out near the end, and Parris has some pointed thoughts on why this season feels so "off". And yeah, we tell you all the big story moments here, too. The fun isn't limited to those two items, either. At the end of the show, we're mixing in talk of the new Episode VII teaser, our Ant-Man anticipation (or rather, extreme lack thereof), Netflix's Daredevil show, the third season of Orange is th

  • The Serial discussion

    13/01/2015 Duration: 01h35min

Remember When has always been about the odd tangents, so for our first episode of 2015, we're taking on a new piece of media. Podcasts have been in a renewed spotlight over the past four months as a result of the success of Serial, a new show from the team behind This American Life.  Serial is the documented review of the murder trial against Adnan Syed, accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend in 1999.  This investigation is filled with drama, corruption, lies, suspicion, and so many incredible stories that it's hard to believe it's all true.   But this 15 year old murder is not only a true story, but is reported on so fascinatingly and in such minute detail that we've been captivated by Sarah Koenig and the stories she has to share. Parris and Jay recap their learnings from the Serial podcast, who they think committed the murder, and talk about their stance on Adnan's claimed innocence.  We're pretty sure the Mail Kimp girl did it. Not a fan of Serial?  Don't worry, we're not going to leave out without a movi

  • Game of Strings

    05/11/2014 Duration: 01h17min

Good podcasters always pay their debts.   For Remember When, that means we're finally giving you what you've all been waiting for!  We're heading to Westeros and taking a deep dive into Game of Thrones.   After several years of Parris' urging to get on the bandwagon, Jay has finally (FINALLY) caught up on the show.  He's so eager to talk about it that we barely have time to do a show intro!  We just jump right in. We won't lie:  It's an intense talk. It took Jay a few attempts to get into the show, and you probably won't be able to guess why.  We rave about some of the best performances in the show, and it's not just dominated by Peter Dinklage.  And we talk about THAT MOMENT in Season 3, when the wedding gets a little red. We don't just cover individual episodes either.  We talk about our crazy theories on how the show will end, and what's in store for some of our favorite characters.   And the epic conversations don't just stop at Dem Thrones!  These past few weeks have given us a bevy of news from the Marv

  • Planes, Thrones, and Groot

    20/08/2014 Duration: 01h19min

Oh hai!  We're back, and we have so much good stuff for you.  Episode 64 starts off with a trip down memory lane as we journey through another Great Movie Jay Has Never Seen.   Planes, Trains, and Automobiles may not be the hallmark moment in the careers of John Candy and Steve Martin, but it's certainly one of the movies that leaves a lasting impression! With fresh eyes, Jay talks about his journey through this unique road trip flick and how it gave him a new appreciation for some of the comedic elements of these two actors.  After the appetizer, we deliver the main course of this episode... Guardians of the Galaxy!  And almost a year after we started to see the first bits of this movie, we're happy to report that Guardians has (mostly) exceeded our expectations.  We're giving you a lengthy look at Marvel's latest piece in Phase 2.  It feels like Firefly!   GROOT!  Chris Pratt is unstoppable, and holy cow, that voice acting from Bradley Cooper.  Also, GROOT!  But it's not without its flaws, and we're happy to

  • Days of Star Wars Past

    06/06/2014 Duration: 01h23min

We've unofficially dubbed May as "The Month of Marvel" and to celebrate, we have a brand new podcast.  Don't call it a regular release, or you might jinx us! Parris and Jay spend a few minutes catching up.  We talk about the recent Episode VII announcements, and Parris cycles back on the recently rebooted Robocop.   Godzilla's recent arrival in theaters piqued Parris' curiousity and we talk about the latest take on a classic franchise.  Thankfully, it's nowhere near as bad as the Matthew Broderick era. Then we hit the meat & potatoes of our show:  The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past.   After a release like Captain America: The Winter Solder, Sony and Fox have a lot of competition in the Marvel universe.  And we're here to tell you why Spidey is already in need of another reboot, and why we liked Days of Future Past. But that's not all!  Parris actually managed to watch the entirety of GI Joe: Retaliation.  We can only assume that some kind of hypnosis was in effect because WOW... that

  • Captain Winter: The American Soldier

    08/04/2014 Duration: 01h08min

We interrupt the six month gap in our recording schedule to bring you this EMERGENCY podcast.   We hadn't planned to record another episode this soon. But a funny thing happened... Captain America: The Winter Solder hit theaters last week.  And when the movie finished, and the two of us walked out of the theater, we agreed...  this couldn't wait.  We HAD to talk about Captain America, right away.  No delays.  If The Winter Soldier has a single message to deliver to its viewers, it's that Marvel isn't playing around in Phase 2.  They're here to deliver.  And it's so serious, so wonderfully delivered, that the next hour of Remember When is exclusively dedicated to the epic proportions of The Winter Solider.  We don't even tangent outside of the Marvel universe (much).  And we spoil pretty much all of the Marvel movies to date.  So if you haven't seen The Winter Soldier yet, do yourself a favor and leave this episode alone until you do.  You'll be glad you waited.   Our show exists because of YOU, our listeners!

  • Days of Matrix Past

    03/04/2014 Duration: 01h22min

The bi-annual release of Remember When is finally available!   We don't waste any time getting started with this show, and jump right into the good stuff!  Our Robocop discussion is ALMOST IMMEDIATELY shanghai'ed by a tangent into the first teaser for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and our discussion on it. Then we jump back and look at House of Cards (with a TON of spoilers).  How did the end of Season 2 fare, and what are our fears moving into a third season after this most recent story arc?  We also play the "I need an adult" card as we chat about the intense, shocking events in Chapter 24. Jay surprises everyone with a chat about the first two seasons of Archer, and some Game of Thrones talk.  YES WE TALK GAME OF THRONES (but not as deep as you might like) Then we talk about the Marvel multi-verse, and our thoughts on the upcoming launches of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as well as conversations about the Guardians of the Galaxy tra

  • Heisenberg

    15/11/2013 Duration: 01h02min

What a fitting moment for the Remember When podcast! We're celebrating the end of Breaking Bad by offering our first full-length show that we recorded face to face...  just Parris, Jay, and a microphone.   It's like you're a fly on the wall of our regular conversations! The entirety of episode 60 is devoted to the end of Breaking Bad.  The final season was filled with ups and downs (mostly ups) and we're here to catalog them in full.  We talk about the pinnacle moments in the final hours of Heisenberg and why Ozymandias is going to be looked back on as one of the greatest episodes ever created for TV. We also talk about why the last two episodes feel a little "off" compared to the rest of the season, and how the series finale wraps up so many of the dangling plot threads. Because there's just so much when it comes to the Breaking Bad finale, we spend our entire episode talking about the show.  If you haven't caught up, go do it right now!  Otherwise, we're going to spoil all the goodness for you. As always, t

  • Orange is the New Meth

    22/08/2013 Duration: 01h23min

"Back so soon?", you ask?  Indeed!  Remember When is forgoing its usual three month waiting period between episodes with brand new content.  As one of our Twitter friends put it:  In Parris and Jay time, it's only been 1 week since the last show! And in the world of entertainment, a lot has changed in the last seven weeks!  Netflix has gone from being the place where you watch reruns of Star Trek Voyager to a major powerhouse with Emmy nominations and some of the best shows on TV.   We spend the early part of the episode loving on Orange is the New Black.  This new show from the creator of Weeds is arguably one of the best shows you can watch right now, and is almost certain to be a frontrunner in the 2014 Emmy season.  We talk about how we each independently watched the series, then almost immediately watched it a second time, because it's just SO good! Once that was done, Jay sat down with the first season of House of Cards to see what the Emmy voters got all worked up about this year, and Parris gets a wel

  • The Last Bluth of Krypton

    06/07/2013 Duration: 01h13min

And now the story of omnipotent aliens who lost everything, and the two podcast hosts who had no choice but to watch their respective movies and see if they could keep it together. We start off the show with a look back at Star Trek Into Darkness.  While our anticipation for the movie ran high, the final product proved to have a few holes.  Our spoiler-filled chat on the Final Frontier talks about the gross underutilization of Benedict Cumberbatch, the way they've mangled the story of some of the characters, where the story hit its all time high, and just a few of the ways the movie pays tribute to the original timeline. Then we jump in, feet first, to our Man of Steel discussion.  Remember back in Episode 8 when we talked about what it would take for Superman to be relevant and interesting to current movie audiences?  It seems like Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan might have been listening in to our show that week, because Man of Steel feels like a line-by-line interpretation of so many of our ideas.  We gu

  • Iron Patriot Games

    15/05/2013 Duration: 01h11min

Look!  Up in the Sky!  It's a bird... it's a plane... IT BIRD PLANE!   Meanwhile, back on the ground, a brand new episode of Remember When is available for your auditory enjoyment. Iron Man 3 hit theaters last week, and both of us have strong opinions on the first volley in Marvel's Phase 2 initiative.  We converse about what it's like coming off of The Avengers and how Iron Man 3 fails in that regard, what the movie does to be better than its atrocious successor in the Iron Man series, and how Robert Downey Jr. might be getting too old for this s**t.   Then we slide our way into talk about the most recent trailers for Star Trek Into Darkness and Man of Steel.  The former is just hours from release and we can't wait to sink our fanboy teeth into this piece of cinematic goodness!  The latter is looking more and more promising.  And somehow, as we're talking, we manage to find ourselves talking about an alternate universe where the Beatles reunite and Superman III is never made.  No, that's not a joke. Then it'

  • Grimlock

    15/04/2013 Duration: 57min

Pick yourselves up on the floor!  Not only is Remember When back with a new episode, we're on schedule!  Heads up, we're coming in HOT!  Parris has just finished the first season of Sherlock after a year of pressure from Jay.  And boy, do we have a lot to talk about! Parris recounts his experiences watching the first season and what he thinks about the show's brilliance.  Jay chats about an alternate universe where Benedict Cumberbatch nearly became the Eleventh Doctor.   And then, of course, we tangent off to talk about the news of David Tennant's return to the Who-niverse for the 50th Anniversary Special.... and we somehow, unexplainably, end up talking about Beverly Hills 90210 (the original) and Saved by the Bell.  Go figure! Jay lets it slip that he's not a fan of Dinobots, which leads to a nostalgic trip down memory lane as we revisit our love of the original Transformers cartoon, the G.I. Joe movie, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, and Voltron.  Parris lets Jay know about the original edit of G.I. Joe wh

  • Super Goonies 8

    28/03/2013 Duration: 01h19min

Yes, it's been a while.  But if it helps, WE MISSED YOU TOO!  And that's why we're back with Episode 55 of Remember When.  After a slight, minor, tiny delay due to Real Life, we've dusted off our microphones and come back for a fun and spirited conversation! We kick off the show with a chat about Super 8.  This J.J. Abrams helmed adventure seeks to capture the spirit of Steven Spielberg and The Goonies by taking us back to the era of the late 70's ... but peters out near the end.  We talk about the successes and failures of the movie, and sidetrack into whether or not J.J. Abrams is really as great as Hollywood seems to think he is. Then we sidestep our way into The Goonies, a timeless piece of 80's pop culture.  A seminal work from our youth, this film ages like fine wine or good cheese.  In fact, it's better to say it ages like Karen Allen (listen to the show... you'll get this joke later) And since we're on a J.J. Abrams themed show, we talk about the news of his helming Episode VII, and what we think this
