On the Saturday of International Soap Week, the pair of us took on the challenge of walking between the location of Corrie's old set in Quay Street to its current home in Media City, and we weren't alone! Accompanied by a group of Conversation Street listeners, we set off through Manchester, stopping off at various Corrie filming locations with the aim of raising money for Dementia UK. This episode of the podcast chronicles our journey, as well as recounting various other Corrie related goings on during our trip up north, including visiting the places where some of this year's location shoots took place and chatting with Sally Ann Matthews outside the studio gates. To mark International Soap Week, we’ve got a special interview with someone who’s been involved in just about every major UK soap out there. Mickey Jones began his career as a storyliner on Coronation Street before stepping in front of the camera to play larger-than-life barman Lance Powell in Brookside. Since then, he’s returned behind the scenes to direct episodes of Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, and Corrie - a role he continues to this day. In this interview, Mickey reflects on his soap career, reveals some behind-the-scenes secrets, and shares his thoughts on the genre as a whole - including where he sees it heading in the future. On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about what that group of young reprobates got up to on the cobbles this week (Episodes #11,603 - 11,608). Judging by people's reactions online, Monday's big event episode was a pretty polarising one among fans, and we actually surprised ourselves by loving it! Between the heavy featuring of some of our favourite young characters and the big twist at the end with Nina and Summer, we were glued to our screens -  until we realised that the aftermath would necessitate a load more visits to the police station and hospital, that is... On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the last week and a bit of Coronation Street, covering the 16th to the 23rd May (Episodes #11,571 - 11,578) It actually worked out quite well that we didn’t get to watch Corrie’s big flashback episode until this week – sharing our thoughts on it now makes for a nice lead-in to everything that’s happening in the present day. We ended up having some pretty different takes on the episodes too – from whether the flashbacks were even necessary to how Craig’s death was handled. But one thing we did agree on – and sorry if this sounds like a bit of a cliché – is that this felt like one of the furthest departures from ‘proper Corrie’ we’ve ever seen, with its intense focus on police action and a main cast made up mostly of relatively new characters. There’s a lot to unpack this week, and we hope you enjoy the discussion (even if some of it does veer into a bit of a whinge!). Gemma's away this weekend, so we're coming at you early with Episode #680 of the podcast, which covers the goings on in Weatherfield between the 12th and the 14th May (Episodes #11,567 - 11,570) We'll readily admit that we've not really found a whole lot of joy in watching Mick's scenes up to now, but that all changed this week with some very intriguing hints dropped about his past with Kit. And as for the fight on Wednesday's episodes - a triumphant return of Gary's inability to avoid getting seven bells kicked out of him whenever gets on someone's bad side! Though we've been critical in the past of Corrie bringing back this character just to kill her off, we have to admit that it's been an absolute joy seeing her on our screens again - however briefly.
