The current crisis in the Middle East is beginning to disintegrate NATO. The nations of the 70-year-old alliance are pulling in different directions, causing it to tear apart. The Bible is clear about what alliances will exist in the latter days. In this Bible in the News, we examine the evidence the Bible gives for the direction things will inevitably go.

When people arrived at Ben Gurion airport in Israel after October 7, 2023, they were greeted by rows of posters displayed for each  of the 251 hostages taken to Gaza on that dreadful day along the entry hallway. When we recently arrived in Israel on January 26 there was only one remaining hostage poster for Ran Gvili, whose body had been held in Gaza for 843 days. His body was identified and returned to Israel on the day we arrived, January 26, 2026. After going through customs we headed for the airport train station to ascend up to Jerusalem. On the columns in the train station there were many stickers which were in memory of fallen soldiers. One sticker had just one word, “v’ahavta.” The word on the sticker had vowel pointing such as is generally only used in the Hebrew scriptures. Recent news reports suggest that events in the Middle East are reshaping the global balance of power in a way that students of Bible prophecy have long expected. Rising oil prices, war between Israel and Iran, and renewed Russian influence are combining to create a geopolitical picture that aligns remarkably well with the outline given in Scripture.Welcome to another Bible in the News.

On the 28th of February, last Saturday, the US and Israel launched airstrikes on major Iranian cities, including Tehran AND Isfahan among others. They targeted air defences, missile units and suspected nuclear weapons related facilities. The US have claimed to have hit nearly 3000 targets and destroyed 17 naval vessels. And most importantly of all, the supreme leader of Iran was killed in the initial strikes along with at least 40 other high ranking officials. Reports have come out over the past week of how traffic cameras in Tehran were hacked by Israel and used to track the movements of Khomanei in order to pinpoint his whereabouts before the strike. The Jerusalem Post has reported that in the full week of fighting, 6500 bombs have been dropped in Iran by the IDF.

Israel and the United States are at war with Iran with the first strikes resulting in the death of the Islamic leader the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei with reports of as many as forty of the top leaders in Iran.  The Israeli Air Force conducts its largest-ever attack as over 200 aircraft strike 500 targets in Iran, and the US attacked over 900 sites in the first twelve hours.

Recent news reports show that Europe is preparing for greater military independence from the United States, raising the possibility of a significant shift in NATO’s structure. Bible prophecy in Ezekiel 38 and Revelation 17 describes a latter-day European confederacy aligned with a northern power identified with Russia, while Britain and the United States stand apart. These geopolitical developments represent steps toward the prophetic arrangement Scripture outlines.

Rising global tensions and the expiry of the START treaty have revived Cold-War-level fears of nuclear conflict, reflected in the Doomsday Clock moving closer to “midnight.” Geopolitical rivalry, especially over Greenland, is shifting global power dynamics, weakening alliances like NATO, and eroding the post-WWII “rules-based order.” Biblical prophecy assures us the world will not be destroyed by nuclear war, but Europe must be divorced from America and placed under Russian control.

This week the U.S military build up in the Middle East continued in what President Trump has described as an “armada” heading towards Iran.

Protests have spread over all of Iran, engulfing 340 places in all 31 provinces according to the UK Telegraph! Protesters are now being murdered by the regime in the hundreds if not thousands. There is danger that the security forces could turn against each other. An analysis by the Telegraph declares, "After 35 years of ruling Iran, Ali Khamenei is running out of options fast.” The protests are not about Israel or America, they were triggered by a collapsed currency, dire economic circumstances and complete mismanagement of the country in regards to the citizens' welfare.

As we enter 2026 the sea of the nations is roaring and casting up mire and dirt. On Friday night, in an audacious move, America took the dictator of Venezuela prisoner, over the last few days massive protests against the regime have surged up in Iran,  Israel recognized the new country of Somaliland, Yemen is becoming unstable and the war continues in Ukraine, with Russia advancing every day.

An overview of 2025It’s striking to recall that just last year, Joe Biden was still president, Iran had an intact nuclear program, Hamas held nearly 100 hostages, and Israel was actively at war in Gaza, with soldiers dying regularly. Israel’s home front also endured frequent Houthi missile attacks.

The terrorist attack at Australia’s Bondi Beach shocked the world this past week. Jews were gathering to celebrate Hanukkah when gunfire broke out. This event is not isolated but is a result of the call for a Global Intifada, which has been permitted in many Western countries. The Bible is clear that the Jews will return to the land, and many Jews living there are now calling for their dispersed brethren to return to the place God has appointed for them.

The spirit of Amalek is still alive very much today. The rise of America’s far-right is a testament to this fact. A war of ideas has been raging in the Republican Party - the party of conservatives in America. The traditionally pro-Israel consensus is being challenging by a much more sinister far-right, Orthodox Christian movement that certainly leans into the Amalekite spirit of Antisemitism.

A storm is brewing in the court of public opinion. As conflicts rage in the Middle East, Western media outlets - once regarded as pillars of neutrality and truth - are being exposed for what they are increasingly becoming: instruments of bias and ideological warfare. This trend is especially clear in coverage concerning the State of Israel.

We might imagine that if Iran were to collapse it might be a result of Israel winning the war against them or America bombing their nuclear site, or the international sanctions. However, these are not the greatest problems or threats to Iran and the regime. The greatest threat against Iran today is a lack of water. A severe drought combined with poor mismanagement of the country's water resources, have led to a crisis. A crisis so great that there is talk of having to move the population out of the capital city Tehran!
