  • BTD27 - Winning Relationships

    11/04/2019 Duration: 26min

Relationships are powerful...and sneaky at the same time. The people you spend time with influence you in big ways. You pick up on their beliefs, priorities and values and they soon can transform your own mindset. In this episode, I share a little of my experience (what NOT to do), as well as some tips for how to identify and foster encouraging, positive, and lasting relationships. I've personally found the times I am most successful are when I am surrounded by people who push me to do better. Make sure you are surrounding yourself with people who build you up and push you to max out your potential! Support the podcast - leave a 5 star review and tell a friend. Thanks! Andrew Glover

  • BTD26 - Think for Yourself

    04/03/2019 Duration: 22min

Everyday, we are bombarded with opinions and beliefs. Everywhere we look and listen, people are trying to tell us what to believe and how to live. And if we aren’t careful, we can end up believing them without truly understanding what they are saying. I don’t know about you, but I’m not willing to live my life based on what someone else wants me to believe. Want to be someone who thinks for themselves and knows how to form their own beliefs? Check out this episode where I talk about how I navigate this world of opinions and come up with my own solid beliefs that help me live my own life with confidence. • BTD25 - Growing Beyond Your Hard Work Ethic

    11/02/2019 Duration: 21min

I imagine you have a strong work ethic. You know how to sacrifice and dedicate yourself to accomplishing something. You have put in the sweat and the hours to accomplish your mission. Hard work is the foundation for any big thing.  But… ...that’s not all there is to being successful. Being a hard worker does not mean you are moving closer to doing big things. In fact, it often can lead to us plateauing and not reaching our maximum potential.  In this episode, I share something you should incorporate into your everyday life to continue moving forward on your Big Thing! It's a lesson I've learned and am currently working to incorporate into my every day routine.

  • BTD24 - Trust the Process

    23/01/2019 Duration: 19min

It’s inevitable that you are going to be required to sacrifice and do things that are not enjoyable if you want to do something big - if not, it’s just something average. Recently, I found myself repeating a phrase to myself to keep me motivated to study for my Dental Board Exam - “trust the process”. In this episode, I explain what that phase means, how you can learn to trust your process, and why it’s the only thing that is going to help you accomplish your big thing.   Music by Hooksounds

  • BTD23 - The Power of Respect

    14/01/2019 Duration: 23min

Are you respected? If you want to do something big with your life, you definitely need to be respected by people around you. I like to call it the “hidden currency” of a person who can do something that is meaningful.  Whether you are asking someone for money (sales or donations), advice, volunteer time, or a favor, a person has to respect you in order for them to want to work with you. If you aren’t respected, you won’t be able to bring people on board to support your mission and help you create meaning and value in our world. This episode talks about the 2 ways you can get respect. Each one is good in itself but ultimately depends on what you are trying to go do.

  • BTD22 - Your 2018 Internal Review

    28/12/2018 Duration: 25min

At the end of a year, we naturally think about the future. We dream about the new and improved things we want to go do. We envision a better life, a new accomplishment, something we can be proud of.  And while I am 100% in favor of thinking big thoughts and accomplishing amazing things, I think we can easily get lost in pursuing the future without addressing areas in our lives that can enable us to actually accomplish our goals.  The best foundation for your future begins with knowing yourself intimately - your strengths and weaknesses - and letting that knowledge guide your future path. In this episode, I guide you through how to conduct your own Internal Review and why it matters. This is a must if you want to be someone who does something exceptional with your life, and not just talk about it. You can download a PDF of the questions we talk about in the episode on my website - bigthingsdonepodcast.com

  • BTD 21 - Extreme Ownership Book Review

    08/12/2018 Duration: 38min

This episode is my review of the leadership book Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. This is probably one of the most influential leadership and personal development books written in our modern time.  If you want to become a dominant leader who has excellent personal habits, this is a must-read! I cover the technical components of the book and also discuss many of the themes the authors outline to make you and I better leaders and people. We’ve talked about many of these concepts in previous podcast episodes, so it’s a great book that compliments what we believe and challenges us to grow so we can dominate, lead, and win. You can purchase the book through this link

  • BTD20 - Personal Habits for Successful Leaders

    17/11/2018 Duration: 20min

What: We all know the importance of doing things that will set us up for personal success. Eating healthy, good sleep, fostering positive relationships, taking risks - all these are examples of actions we can take to make us better personally. In episode 19, we took that same idea and applied it to leadership, specifically looking at actions and mentalities that leaders should take to set their team up for success.  In this episode, we continue that theme, but focus on personal actions and habits that will make you a successful leader. These actions focus on traits that will allow you to lead more effectively, and keep your mentality strong through the ups and downs of a leadership journey. Why: Leadership is hard, demanding, and confusing. It is not something that just naturally happens, it’s not magic, but rather groomed and perfected over time. If you want to become a more effective leader, there are certain habits and actions you need to incorporate into your daily life to grow and develop. It’s no differ

  • BTD19 - How Leaders Build Successful Teams

    01/10/2018 Duration: 18min

What: We hear all the time about the importance of setting ourselves up for success.  Things like reading, eating healthy, exercising, networking - all great things we should be doing if we want to accomplish something. But what about from a leadership perspective? In this episode, we will talk about 3 habits that leaders must incorporate into their leadership style to make their team successful. The Breakdown: Know and Communicate Why. Leaders must be able to know why they do what they do and why it matters. If they don’t, there is very little solid ground to stand on when time get tough, and no direction in a world full of distraction. Invest in the Advancement of Your Teammates. Your teammates will be motivated to work for you, and do a better job, if they are able to improve and advance in their careers and personal goals. Be a leader who wants to make the individuals they work with better than when they first came and worked for you. Empower Your Teammates. Leaders often times turn into task maste

  • BTD18 - First or Best?

    17/09/2018 Duration: 25min

What: Every leader is required to make decisions that move their team from where they are now to a future point. This episode shows you how to approach making any decision. Why: As a leader who’s had to make many decisions, there often is a conflict between making a decision quickly and making a decision that has the best possible outcome. Put differently, you often need to decide if you want to be first, or do you want to be the best?  This applies to decisions made in business, relationships, school, and even in your personal life. 80% of the time, you will not be able to make a decision that is both fast AND the best (which would be the ideal scenario, and every leader should be actively growing to improve this area). As a leader, you need to make a decision that will provide the most benefit to moving your team forward, and leaders must learn to distinguish and prioritize their decision as needing to be first, or needing to be the best. Breakdown: What does it mean to focus on being “first” or being the

  • BTD16 - Ideas to Action (Pt 2)

    13/08/2018 Duration: 23min

In this episode, we continue our conversation about how to turn an idea into action, and we focus on 4 things that often hinder us from taking action on an idea we have. Losing Passion - one of the best ways to ensure your passion for an idea is mature enough to sustain you is to purposefully distance yourself from your idea for 1-2 weeks. Need for Resources - it can be frustrating to spend time getting resources instead of making progress toward your goal, but the reality is getting your resources is PART of achieving your goal. Embrace that fact and accept it as part of the process. Fear of Failure (Personal) - no one likes to lose, and we often convince ourselves we are going to lose even before we start. One way to keep yourself from extinguishing your own flame is by ensuring you have realistic expectations for yourself. Fear of Failure (Social) - we all care about what other people think about us. Whenever you worry about what anyone will think of you if you fail, just remember that you are at least doi

  • BTD15 - Sharpen Your Edge: Dominate Your Tasks

    06/08/2018 Duration: 05min

SYE 15: Dominate Your Tasks Being someone who does big things means that you MUST stay on track with accomplishing your tasks and delivering on your promises to people. In order to keep track and execute all of your tasks properly, here are 3 ways you can dominate everything you need to do. Carry a pen with you...always: This will give you the ability to physically write things down, whether you need to explain something or just have something in front of you for your reference. Have a way to record and keep your notes: I use a small 3”x5” notebook called Field Notes to write down my tasks, prioritize and review them.  Other resources that have worked well for me are the websites Trello and Daily Attack Plan. Review your tasks consistently: Having an idea of what you need to focus on every day will help you stay on track and devote your energy and resources appropriately to accomplish everything you need.

  • BTD14 - Ideas to Action (Pt 1)

    01/08/2018 Duration: 26min

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN -  2:55 min The steps and focus areas you need to take an idea and turn it into action. WHY IT MATTERS -  3:07 min Remember the definition of a leader?  Leaders are people who think of a future position and bring their team to that state. Leaders turn ideas into action, and knowing the steps and ways to do that are critical to making a better world. THE BREAKDOWN -  5:45 min Here are the three focus areas for any leader who wants to turn an idea into action. Know your end goal. Is it achievable? Is it better?  Why is it better than where you are right now?  What do you think it will feel like when you get there?  You have to live it and be so excited about it. Remember that not everyone will be as excited about it as you are. You are your only advocate sometimes. Identify your resources. Big things don’t just happen, they require time, energy, focus, money, knowledge, skills, dedication, equipment, and support.  How are you prioritizing them? Doing your tasks. This is where mos

  • BTD13 - Sharpen Your Edge: Eliminate Your Downtime

    22/07/2018 Duration: 05min

Big things in our lives don’t just happen.  We have to work, fight, and aggressively pursue them, which takes time, energy, focus, and resources. Along that note, we can’t expect to do big things or make improvements in our lives if we are wasting our time.  One of the biggest wastes of time in our modern day lives is downtime, or transition time. Downtime or Transition Time: Simply put, any moment of your day that you are not engaged in an activity or event. This can be something like your commute to work, time between meetings, or waiting for an appointment.  We often spend these 15 - 60 minute moments looking at our phone or staring out the window. Why should you eliminate your downtime? Save TIME. By spending your downtime with activities that make you better, you carve out time for yourself to accomplish your big thing. Maybe you are taking classes - spending 15 minutes to review flashcards is a huge win! Maybe you have a long commute for work - listening to a 30 minute business podcast just made you m

  • BTD12 - Victim or Victor?

    16/07/2018 Duration: 27min

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN - 3:45 min How to identify when you are being a victim and what to do to become a victor WHY IT MATTERS - 4:03 min Big things do not happen easily. They are hard, painful, and difficult. But the people who accomplish big things all have one thing in common - they refuse to be victims of their situations. The way you respond to resistance and how you prepare yourself for bad, unexpected things in your life will determine whether you can accomplish your big thing. THE BREAKDOWN - 6:24 min What is a victim?  A victim is a person who has something happen to them that was bad, unexpected, and out of their control. Being laid off from a job, a tornado leveling your house, or being diagnosed with cancer are all common instances of people being victims. What is a victim mentality? Every person in the world is a victim of something at one point or another. The issue, however, arises when we continue to believe that we are powerless to do anything in our situation, and even require som

  • BTD11 - Sharpen Your Edge: Meal Prep

    12/07/2018 Duration: 06min

If you want to do Big Things in your life, you have to put yourself in a position to do so. That means having the time, energy, focus, money, or other resources to dedicate towards your goal. One way to put yourself in a position to do great things is to meal prep. Meal Prep: Preparing your meals in advance (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks) for an extended period of time (a few days, 1 week, 1 month, etc). Why Do It? Fuel your body with good, wholesome food! When you dedicate time to plan your meals, you are much more likely to prepare healthy good that will give you clean energy and help you stay on track from a health standpoint, including weight control, blood sugar, and others. Save money!  Where I live and go to school, meal prepping costs me half of what it would cost to eat out. HALF! Saving money by meal prepping allows you to put more resources towards things like books, classes, investments, savings, and many other value-building assets. Save Time! By spending 1-2 hours in an afternoon to

  • BTD10 - Peer Leadership: Lead Without a Title

    02/07/2018 Duration: 24min

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN - 7:25 min How to lead when you are not a “leader” with official power or authority How to do big things no matter your position in a company or team WHY IT MATTERS - 8:00 min The keys to success as a peer leader are exactly the same to being effective as an official leader. You’ll be able to do really big things when you learn and apply peer leadership principles Becoming an effective peer leader will differentiate yourself from those around you, opening doors for advancement and opportunity THE BREAKDOWN - 9:23 min What is “Peer Leadership” Peer: Someone who is equal to you in terms of authority and responsibility Leadership: Being ahead of everyone else and bringing your team to you future state (listen to Episodes 7 & 8 for more on this topic) The Question: How are you supposed to lead when you don’t have power over people? Why would they listen to you? Why would they even care? Build your own credibility. To lead people, you need some sort of credibility in ord

  • BTD9 - Keep Your Team From Burning Out

    18/06/2018 Duration: 29min

Work-related stress is on the rise, and that is indicated by the growing body of studies and the multitude of health-related employee benefit programs companies now offer. Employers are thankfully realizing that burned out employees destroy productivity and actually increase operating costs (not to mention the negative effects on the human being...that’s pretty important too). A little bit of stress is always going to be present in the workplace - and that is mostly a good, healthy thing.  From my experience in the military, however, I have found that when work-related stress becomes chronic and unsolvable, that’s when it starts to degrade the performance of your team.  As a leader, it is your responsibility to limit that type of stress that hinders performance and ultimately leads to employees feeling burned out. There are all sorts of ways modern companies are trying to make work less stressful. But no matter how many hip programs and services an organization can offer, culture is still king when it comes t
