This episode of the podcast features a recording of a conversation between digital creator Bryanboy and fashion journalist, author, and critic, Alexander Fury, which took place on Gucci’s Instagram Live during GucciFest in November 2020, as they shared their thoughts on a series of short films created by the 15 emerging designers whose collections were showcased during the fashion and film festival. Many of these same talents will be part of Vault, a space long envisioned by Gucci’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, that will be launching soon.

To celebrate the Gucci Garden Archetypes exhibition, Antwaun Sargent, a New York-based writer and curator recites ‘To Make A Picture’—an essay he wrote for the catalogue of the exhibition—and offers a brief commentary on the history, content and progression of the House’s advertising campaigns under the creative manifesto of Alessandro Michele. The exhibition itself is a multi-sensory space journeying through time as well as out of it, exploring the diverse inspirations and archetypes that range from art and music to modern metropolises and utopian worlds. As part of the House’s celebrations in its centenary year, Gucci has opened a new home for its archive in Palazzo Settimanni in Florence. In this episode, Funmi meets Eszter Magyar, makeup artis, creative and founder of the @uglymakeuprevolution and @makeupbrutalism on Instagram. Together, they dive into Eszter’s early memories of beauty, her journey into makeup artistry, and how ultimately, her side project of experimenting with makeup on Instagram has evolved into a conceptual and disruptive phenomenon that challenges society’s narrow beauty ideals. In this episode, Fumni meets Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, a New York based stylist, American Vogue contributor and Fashion Director of Garage Magazine. Known as the ‘fashion gardener’ for his oversized botanical prints in clashing colours, Ken Scott was an American designer residing in Milan in the 60s and 70s. To emphasize the Epilogue collection’s retro, eclectic spirit, Alessandro Michele chose prints from Ken Scott archive, preserved by Como-based textile producer Mantero, and applied them to emblematic House designs. ‘Willi Smith: Street Couture’ is the first exhibit dedicated to American designer Willi Smith (1948–1987) held at Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York. The exhibit of more than 200 pieces highlights how the designer and co-founder of iconic brand WilliWear broke down social, cultural, and economic boundaries. In this episode, two of Willi Smith’s friends, Bethann Hardison and Kim Hastreiter join William Ndatira to reflect on Willi Smith’s life, career and spirit. Bethann Hardison, member of the Gucci Global Equity Board and of the Gucci’s Global Corporate Executive Committee, is a model and activist and met Willi Smith when she was just starting out in New York working in the garment business. Journalist, editor and publisher Kim Hastreiter grew up in New Jersey and moved to New York to become an artist.
