The Bible contains several accounts of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and how He presented Himself alive to disciples with many infallible proofs. Based on the truth of God's word and the power of the Holy Spirit, we have all confidence our risen Saviour lives. Jesus was crucified with robbers that seemed beyond saving, but Jesus is a Saviour and KING who lay down His life as a sacrifice for lost sinners in fulfillment of God's promises in Scripture. On Good Friday Jesus died and was buried in a tomb, and thus set the stage to confirm beyond doubt His miraculous resurrection days later. Synopsis: Paul continues his letter to Roman believers with a portrait of what presenting ourselves as living sacrifices to God, being transformed by the renewing of our minds, and doing God's will looks like in relationships with others. We are to love without hypocrisy, for those who love has fulfilled the law. Loving one another with humility is a Christian duty we embrace by faith in Jesus to overcome evil with good. Having established God's mercy and grace extended to all through the Gospel, Paul implores believers to present themselves as living sacrifices to God, being transformed by the renewing of our minds. While this is God's work, followers of Jesus are held responsible to adopt God's perspective and live like the new creatures He has made us, guided by faith in Him and using the spiritual gifts He provides for the good of all. Synopsis: In this chapter, Paul explains God's redemptive purpose in Israel's rejection of Jesus the Messiah, and how by grafting the Gentiles into God's people by the Gospel would draw Israel to Himself for salvation. God had not cut off Israel for rejecting Him, for His gifts and calling are irrevocable. In light of God's wisdom beyond fathom and mercy on all, may we continually praise Him by freely giving mercy to all. After Paul established God's sovereignty and choice to offer salvation freely by grace, in this chapter Paul focuses on man's responsibility to respond to the Gospel by faith in Jesus to receive salvation. Though Israel had rejected Jesus God had not cast them off, but as Paul proved by being born again God has reserved for Himself a remnant who will remain faithful to Him. Our coming to Jesus in faith reveals His unfolding plan to save others by His grace. Synopsis: Paul shifts gears in this chapter to declare that God's word and purposes stand, and how the choices of our sovereign Creator are established by His power according to His wisdom. Having established there is no condemnation for followers of Jesus Christ, we can rely on the Holy Spirit to sanctify us and helps us in our weaknesses in prayer. We can know all things work together for us, are more than overcomers through Jesus, and nothing can or will ever be able to separate us from the love of God. These Christian privileges are freely offered to all by God's grace. Synopsis: Everyone knows what it is like to fail to achieve our own standards, and the Law of Moses proved impossible for all mere mortals to keep. By God's grace He has provided the means of righteousness for sinners by sending Jesus Christ as an offering for sin. It is by faith in Jesus Christ sinners are redeemed and made righteous children of God apart from the Law of Moses. Paul wrote to believers to show how an identity as God's people impacts our view of ourselves and others, and just because we claim to be Christians does not mean we are living like Christ. Our lives provide evidence whether we love the praise of God or prefer the praise of men. Paul explained how everyone is without excuse before God whether He judges us by the Law of Moses or by our conscience since the most moral among men are still sinners. Our sin, approval of others who sin and condemnation of sinners exposes us as guilty before God. Only by the Gospel can sinners repent and turn to Jesus in faith, be saved and cleansed of all sin--including a guilty conscience.
