Drunk On Lettering

Emilee Rudd is a gem of a human and we were so lucky to have her on the show this week. She is an awesome freelance designer living in Sacramento, CA amongst all her plant babies. We got the chance to talk about her college experience, love life, favorite meals, and all the girl boss things.

We finally got our girl Jennet Liaw on the podcast! She's been a big inspiration to us both for a long time so it was great to chat with her! We got into her college days in SD, working at Nike, and freelancing in NY! It was great to get her perspective on being a woman entrepreneur...girl power!

This week we chat with Matt Dawson aka @staygrayponyboy! He's a full-time freelancer, dad, beer lover, cheese eater, and the founder of CROP! We get into design life, what people can expect at this years CROP, and life in Atlanta! Give it a listen! And make sure to come see us on stage at CROP!!

Episode 80 comes in hot with special guest, Jason Naylor! Jason originally hails from Salt Lake and now resides in Brooklyn. He's a bad ass art director/muralist, and you're going to love all of his knowledge bombs! We get deep about his position in the advertising world and his spray painting skills...needless to say, we have a lot to learn. Jason was even sweet enough to bring us two cans to practice with, since we interviewed in person!

This week we got to chat with the bad ass Ali Makes Things! She was one of the first people that we saw using Instagram for business back in the day, so we were really excited to pick her brain and hear how her business has evolved. We get into life in Atlanta, her frequent trips to Africa, drinking rosé, teaching workshops, cheese, etc.

This week we chat with Wells Collins, the Denver based, branding and lettering dude! He was a pleasure to chat with and he gave us the inside scoop on his full time design job, moving from Atlanta to Denver, his recent engagement, favorite letters, etc. He's a talented guy and he has a lot of good info to share!!

Happy 2018 everyone! We are starting the new year off right with an episode with the man, the myth, the legend... Mr. Austin Saylor! Austin is an animator dude hailing from the east coast but is now making his way out west. We were lucky to be able to meet up and chat in person while visiting the Phoenix area. The interview started with room service at our hotel and ended with Austin helping us out on our mural project!

Episode 75 comes in hot with self-taught lettering and mural artist Alexis aka Tyrsa! We were lucky to interview him in person while he was visiting San Diego. Alexis travels a ton and has worked for a variety of clients, so it was really interesting to get his perspective on things! Of course we also had to hit the other important topics like cheese and baguettes...

After a few tinyyyyy road blocks, we are finally sharing an interview with le famous Nick Misani! You may know him as the fauxasics master, but Nicky has also created many book covers, packaging... the whole shabang! We go deep with him on all of those projects while also gaining insight on the vegan cheese world. It's an episode you won't want to miss!

This week we get down and dirty with our homie Alex Policastro. Alex is a fellow San Diegan, working as a designer at our favorite agency, Paradeigm! We wanted to hear more about Alex's background and daily rituals so we met up for a few drinks. Alex has a lot of great design and pizza advice, so make sure to give it a listen!

This week we have the talented podcaster, illustrator, letterer, designer, pizza lover, cat dad, and all around sweetheart Scotty Russell on the show!! He spilled all the info on how he juggles so many things like full time job, freelance, personal life, pizza, podcasting, etc! He does it all! James Martin aka Made by James is a hoot! We've been Insta-friends for awhile and it was great to finally chat via Skype. James hails from the UK and is a designer/letterer specializing in branding. When he's not drawing insanely clean sketches, you can find him walking his dog or fantasizing about being a skater boy. Don't worry, we get in to all of that on this episode!

This week we have the AMAZING Maria Montes on the podcast! If you don't know her, she's an insanely talented person. She was one of the other speakers at the Typism conference and she absolutely killed it! We interviewed her while we were in Australia and were lucky enough to hang out with her a few times over our trip! Maria is super dedicated to her craft. She illustrates, she letters, she does calligraphy, she teaches workshops. She's a BIG inspiration to us! Check it out!

This week we have a very special guest that we got to interview in person while we were in Philly! It's Noah Camp!!! You've probably seen his amazing 3D lettering skills...we're v impressed and amazed! He gets into his background in music, learning Cinema 4D and all the various scary 3D programs, la croix is a big topic of convo, cheese (duh), and many other things. It's a good blend of informative and funny and real. We also talk about Noah's journey being trans and how that's affected his design life!
