Unprecedented Times: Handling Finances
14/10/2022 Duration: 23minThese are truly unprecedented times, on a number of levels. High at the top of the list, for many, is money. While I am not naive enough to think that this podcast can address everyone's need in this area, I do believe and have experienced what I consider adequate and less than that. So, it is with mind-set and heart that we begin. Comments and questions are welcomed. Phone (563) 999-3558 during the broadcast.

Don't Give it a Thought: Reckless and Careless Speech
30/09/2022 Duration: 16minCarole Mayhall, our author, shares: 'Reckless is defined as careless, heedless, not regarding consequences; headlong and irresponsible; rash. Some synonyms for reckless are incautious, unmindful, neglectful, unthinking, and thoughtless.' She says, "I am convinced that daily, perhaps hourly, we need to ask God to help us bite our tongues before voicing careless remarks that can hurt, even devastate. We need to ask Him to help us think before we speak."

Was that a complaint or did I mishear you?
16/09/2022 Duration: 16minComplaints are often comprised of Words That Hurt. For instance, my response to a dish or even an entire meal, by a family member or host, that I don't find pleasing is frowned upon or greeted with a few distasteful words. Such reactions give no thought to the labor and maybe love that went into its preparation. Someone who may have taken an hour or more to prepare something, specifically for me, is devalued within a few minutes. Today's chapter is entitled, Woe is Me!

Do our tongues have bragging rights?
09/09/2022 Duration: 17minJames 3:5 says, the tongue is a small member. Yet, it boasts of great things... (6) It is a fire... (8) no human can tame it...(9) We use it to bless the Lord, God and to curse people who are made in His image. Chapter 2 of Words that Hurt Words that Heal is entitled, "Aren't I Terrific?" It helps us to discern the words, the type of talk, that should come out of our mouths and ready us to dispense words of healing.

Are you a fountain or a babbling brook - continued
05/09/2022 Duration: 16min**Friday's scheduled broadcast was suspended due to a family emergency. We're picking it up today and we also hope that you are enjoying a restful Labor Day** When folks think of you and their interactions with you, are you perceived as a fountain or a babbling brook? Proverbs chapter 10 and verse 11 tells us that "the mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life." Today, we continue to explore whether or not our mouths are fountains of life or not. Do you know how you are perceived by others? How do you perceive yourself? During our last reading, we learned that Praise is one factor that converts our mouths to fountains of life. Although an incomplete list, The Word of God, Encouragement and Comfort, and Wisdom and Justice are others.

The introduction continued - Words That Hurt Words That Heal
12/08/2022 Duration: 16minWhen we paused at last week's reading, we'd just heard the events that led to the hands of a small statured woman (Beverly) being damaged. It was devastating to hear. Yet we read that her face was illuminated, as she told the story, and her heart was full of praise, evidenced by the fact that she sang praises to God, alongside sharing her story. During today's reading, we will see the impact this encounter made on Carole's life and, perhaps, discover the impact it makes on ours. Ignite the spark, fan the fire, and allow the result to spread like a virus
15/07/2022 Duration: 21minSharon Betters and Susan Hunt wrap up today's podcast with Concluding Thoughts. It has been my extreme pleasure to not only be a beneficiary of their wisdom, but to have personally known Sharon, Chuck, and their family for the two years that my husband and I were members of a very vibrant church in Delaware. Sharon was a powerful ladies' ministry leader, then. This, just one of several books she's authored, is an example of the work our great God continues to do through her as well as Susan, not only for their individual good but that of others. Sharon and Susan, we applaud and thank you for sharing such an open testimony with all who read (or hear) Aging With Grace: Flourishing in an Anti-Aging Culture. I'd be remiss not to thank the Lord for putting Aging With Grace in the hands of a dear friend, Gaila Harriff, who made it known to me, not realizing that there was any connection between me and Sharon. This, too, is another example of the Lord, (Tapestrymaker) for the purpose of reference, and a tapestry

Naomi unravels God's Hesed (Love) for us
08/07/2022 Duration: 27minToday, let's open with where we left Naomi, last week. A generational principle of aging: The long view (continued)
24/06/2022 Duration: 25minWhen we put down the pen, stop trying to write our story or the stories of others, and wholeheartedly trust the author of our story to write His gospel story in our lives, we begin to see the mundane and the miserable moments as essential sentences that eventually become a majestic story of grace, because the plot of dirt where we die is also the place where we flourish. ~ Susan Hunt During our live broadcast, feel free to call in by dialing (563) 999-3558. Where do we learn to flourish and bear fruit?
27/05/2022 Duration: 20min"As life slows down, we can become controlling and critical, or we can reflect on God's sovereign love that chose and planted us in His house. The more we live in the light of the reality of His presence, the more we flourish as His Spirit fills us with sap to nurture and encourage others to flourish." ~ Susan Hunt During our live broadcast, feel free to call in by dialing (563) 999-3558.
