12-- Snow, Glass, Apples
27/11/2016 Duration: 01h31minFor some reason, the year 2012 produced two remarkably different big-budget live-action Snow White adaptations with incredible design work. We've just watched them both. In which Snow White's Prince is a douchebag; one of the dwarves is a furry; we maintain that Snow White and the Huntsman works better if the heart is a metaphor; Saoirse recounts her time in Snow White Press Tour Fandom; the two Snow Whites should probably just marry and co-rule; and we go on a long tangent about the Italian Renaissance. Menu: - Potatoes - German apple pancake - A giant gummy heart - Stew - Another German apple pancake

11 -- Deep Skating Nerd Territory
13/11/2016 Duration: 01h17minContent note: A large portion of our 'comparison' section is about homophobia within figure skating culture. The first two parts are considerably lighter in tone, if you want to just skip the last 20 minutes or so. In probably our most self-indulgent episode yet, Dorian and Saoirse take a journey into the mind of legendary Canadian figure skater Toller Cranston. In which there's a person singing Cats on a boat in the Underworld; William Shatner is just here to read the title cards; the inside of a fish is on fire and Chita Rivera is there; Sandra Bezic is eternal queen of the sea; and Strawberry Ice was a lot more fun before we understood it. Menu: - Strawberry margarita - Green salad with strawberries - Savoury strawberry risotto - Strawberry ice cream - Do you get the theme here yet - Pomegranate trifle If you'd like to watch the films along with us this week (PLEASE, PLEASE DO THIS) they can be found here and here Stay tuned in the next couple weeks for some exciting Drive In Saturdays developments! You Move To LA And The Local Goths Want To Kill You
01/11/2016 Duration: 01h27minThis week we tackle two films very important to teen goths everywhere! In which The Craft's Designated Protagonist is the most morally reprehensible character; there's no good way to animate snake fingers; we learn a surprising fact about 1980s figure skating; and the real enemy in Lost Boys is economic stability. Menu: - Cheap red wine, probably consumed in a park - Chow mein - Pizza, with extra garlic

09 -- In Mad Science For The Love Of It
17/10/2016 Duration: 01h20minGods and Monsters content notes: Suicide, war and war-related PTSD, sexual assault. In which we meet our favourite Wacky Side Character In A Horror Film yet; we have many questions about Dr. Praetorius’s research and/or sex life; Saoirse spends a lot of time harping on the fact that Elsa Lanchester’s wig was red; and it takes us both an embarrassingly long time to notice we watched a Pygmalion story about a man named Clay. Featuring a sneak preview at what our Anniversary Special will eventually look like. Menu: - Gingerbread people - Bread and wine - Iced tea - Cucumber sandwiches

Gene Wilder Tribute
02/10/2016 Duration: 01h07minThis week we pay tribute to the late, great Gene Wilder, who unfortunately did a much better job in one of these films than the other. In which Young Frankenstein is uncomfortably close to youtube smash hit Monster Factory; if you can tell a joke once you can tell it five times; magic has nothing to do with the plot; and if your mother is four years older than you, you have a problem. Menu: - Black forest cake - Sausages - Drinking heavily until Haunted Honeymoon makes sense Sorry that the sound quality is worse than usual this week; I plugged my mic in but forgot to check that it was turned on. Also, I want to note for the record that the recommendation to watch Beetlejuice was recorded before Tim Burton decided to go around being publicly and overtly racist.

07 -- Batman Has Risen From The Grave
17/09/2016 Duration: 01h17minCelebrate Batman Day 2016 with us! (We had no idea it was Batman Day until this morning. It's a heck of a coincidence, though.) In which blood and red paint are indistinguishable, we get sidetracked by talking about a zillion other Batman and Batman-adjacent properties, we'd rather marry a pastry chef than a philosophy major, and the Batman cartoon is infinitely more horrifying than the actual horror movie. Menu: - Pastry - Carrot cake - Canapés - Strawberry milkshake - Old-fashioned candy - Cream pie

06-- The Light And Fluffy Reboot
04/09/2016 Duration: 01h30minWe're back! Took a week off to synch up our schedule so that we have three episodes in October. That's our story and we're sticking to it. In which we put to the test the theory that the main difference between Carrie and Matilda is genre, Saoirse spoils every other version of Carrie, we both forget the word ‘disciples’, Carrie is probably not related to Madeline Kahn in Clue, Roald Dahl really hates television, we want a Matilda Lego game, Dorian has an enormous skull, and we try to answer the most important question: If their circumstances were reversed, would Mara Wilson have destroyed the prom? Sorry for the smoke alarm beeps and bird noises in this one. Menu: Sweet and sour pork Some kind of tandoori dish Red wine Chocolate cake Cheerios Next: Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker vs. Dracula Has Risen From The Grave

05 -- Grunge Spice
14/08/2016 Duration: 01h12minThis week we watched two tonally different but surprisingly thematically similar films from the mid-1990s about music, fame, friendship, documentary filmmaking, and the power of narrative to shape reality. TRIGGER WARNING: Hard Core Logo is a film that ends in suicide. If that's gonna be upsetting to you, we'll see you in two weeks. Menu: - Sandwiches shaped like people - Some kind of goat dish - Curry vindaloo

Party at Vincent Price's House
02/08/2016 Duration: 01h08minThanks for bearing with us through our delays and technical difficulties! Tonight on Drive in Saturdays Mondays, join us as we explore the surprising depth of films starring Vincent Price that have the word "House" in the title, ruminate on the mid-century American gothic, and lament that Saoirse will never land her dream job of Scream Queen. Menu: Selections from Vincent and Mary Price's A Treasury of Great Recipes, including a bean soup that we didn't like very much, gazpacho Andaluz, oatmeal lace cookies, and a somewhat modified kale hotchpotch.

Of Mirrors, Masks, and Faces
16/07/2016 Duration: 01h19minThis week we watch two heartwarming family films about young girls trapped in magical lands, except also one of them is about psychiatric abuse and the other is about cancer. They're also both about faces, mirrors, and the mutability of self. In which we poke fun at Neil Gaiman again, Labyrinth is the missing third of this trilogy, Oz probably doesn't have effective crisis counselling, Jack Merv Jack Pumpkinhead is just made of stuff, Saoirse talks about Todorov's Fantastic five minutes after promising not to, and the real charm was the chickens we met along the way. Menu: - Popcorn and peanuts - Fresh fruit - Some sort of savoury soufflé - Key Lime Pie - Probably not fried chicken
-
02 -- Canada Day Special
02/07/2016 Duration: 59minAn exploration of weird Canadian films about music and the devil, in which Dorian experiences Canadian classic Highway 61 and Canadian fever dream Rock & Rule for the first time; young Don McKellar is weirdly attractive; tater tots belong to the devil; Omar is the worst; Northern Ontario is worse than a post-nuclear wasteland; and there are no demons on the Magic Schoolbus. Menu: Tater tots, devilled eggs, catfish. (The Rock & Rule menu segment got edited out, but it included a rich chocolate cake with a gooey raspberry centre.)

01-- Pilot
18/06/2016 Duration: 01h01minA celebration of 1980s movie musicals in which Saoirse watches Xanadu for the first time; Olivia Newton John is not from space; Gene Kelly doesn't know how to play the clarinet; Xanadu exists in the same universe as Jem and the Holograms; Ellen Greene probably is from space; the Little Shop puppeteers were having way too much fun; and only one of these films has any acting in it. Menu: - Neon pink and purple cocktails - Whatever the 1980s equivalent of the 1970s jelly salad is - Stuffed grape leaves - Kale and mint salad, with optional beef - Red wine
